    We used MUS in the beginning. It was tough coming over from public school. My kids HATED the topical/mastery approach. They felt so bored going over the same types of problems all year long. We switched over to TT and it worked ok. But, moving on to Pre-Algebra, we’re headed right back to MUS! We will do Zeta this year as well. Looking forward watching my kids blossom into their upper level math concepts!

      @confidentgrace I was just wondering how the switch back to MUS has been? I’m debating switching my 4th grader from her current math and math I see and teaching textbooks are the two I’m looking at 😊

    Hi Pam. Do you still use MUS? How is it for the late high school levels?

    @Pam Barnhill Thank U so much for taking the time to share all of this.. Uhhh!! There are just so many amazing resources these days.. It is so hard to figure out what curricula to go with.. (=

    Curious if you have tried math mammoth or what you think of it. We use math u see for main lessons then switch to math mammoth because my daughter is obsessed with word problems.

      Have not tried it at all. Have a friend who used it for her one daughter and loved it.

    Saxon was almost the end of homeschooling for me! So many tears and fighting!

      Hopefully you will find something that will make it better. I am so sorry!

      Same here! Love the saxon approach but it was so time consuming and repetitive it became a battle!

      @@clarissahulet9150 try shormann math. It’s the Saxon method of spiral, but less questions.

    Pam, my daughter (9th grade) will start MUS this year for the first time. I’ve heard people say if you don’t do it from the beginning, the higher grades are difficult for the child to grasp. What is your opinion on this?

    • @PamBarnhill
      @PamBarnhill  Před 6 lety +4

      Kelly, I don't have any experience with this but I asked my math tutor Debbie Lee (who has tons of experience) and this is her reply, "I think they only struggle with the higher levels because they did not master fractions and times tables. If those are weak they will be weak in the higher math regardless of curriculum. I think MUS teaches each step thoroughly so anything new will be explained."

      We made a switch to Mr. D to help Olivia. The math tutor loved it for her and then we started using it for the boys too. Tutor said the boys could do either program and be very successful but now they just like the delivery of Mr. D

    My daughter sounds a lot like yours. She will be going into 8th next year and is right about where yours was going into 8th. I have been really stressed out about it, but your perspective is helpful. Do you mind sharing how far along she's progressed now, 3 years later?

    • @PamBarnhill
      @PamBarnhill  Před 2 lety +1

      She is finishing Algebra 1 in her junior year. Next year we will focus on whatever math she needs to be successful as a non-mathy college student.

      Well bless your heart. Pretty sure there are samples on the website but this video does exactly what it promises - explains why I love MUS. The word review is never mentioned.
