- Some people say it doesn't exist... People in the UK say otherwise.
This FK2R, although not released in the Australian or US market, was the driving force that steered Honda to redesign the Civic Type R formula to what it is today.
Would you say this is the father of the FK8?
Thank you kindly to Lee for giving me the time to film your FK2R and for the additional footage.

Thanks for such a great vid @middletwix.
What a fantastic video and big thanks to @japap's 🥜
Always a pleasure! 😊🙏🥜
I can tell you put so much work into this vlog! It’s my favorite one yet! Can’t wait for the next one Twix!
Thank you! After hours upon hours editing, i'm glad the effort pays off!🥰
The next date should be in America
@@MiddleTwixAU its time for a date in japan jdm cars
Next date should be in North Korea
Relax, simp; she won’t date you.
Safe to say this Type R will never be forgotten now😍
You're better bro, don't let randy take her from you🤣
As an American, I really appreciate seeing the Honda culture and love of other countries. I enjoy your blogs. Keep up the fantastic work!
Nice content . I’m a owner CTR FK2 from Malaysia 🇲🇾
I’ve never forgotten, in fact it’s my aim to get the FK2.
FK2 Type R is still pretty popular in Sweden 😊 I however saved about 60% buying my FN2 Type R that has that awesome growling Type R soundtrack 😍
I was so jealous of the FK2 when they came out but being from the US it made me sad we never got it, such a beautiful car
This Type R was the first Type R I actually fell in love with. I like the look of the front and the continuous curve from the front bumper to the roof. It's sad that It didn't make it over to the NA market
you dont like the fd2 typeR? thats prob one of the best built and best looking typeR made from japan
@@droptopp3479 Never said I didn't. I simply discovered the FK2 before the FD2. Also, I like the front of FD2 a lot but the rear end especially with the tail lights just look off to me. I prefer the tail lights of the FA1's
omg Twix u gotta make more of these
On the way 🏃🏻♀️💨
Forgotten!? this is 100% my favorite gen of Civic, love FK2!
Had a crystal black pearl FK2, then FK8, now waiting for the FL5. Loved the FK2, really nice homage 👍
Really enjoyed the video. I’ve got
A Blue FK2 R here in the UK.
Great vid! Subbed✊🏽
Indicate right to go left after hitting the wiper stalk lol.🤣
Love the editing of this vid!
Loving these videos, the editing at 3:03 was hilarious. Looking forward to seeing more and thanks Lee for sharing your car with us. 🔥🔥❤
I'm glad you enjoyed it! 😊 Thank YOU for watching 🙏

awesome video, awesome car, great work!
One of my neighbours has one of these. Sounds amazing, goes like total hell off the freeway.
Great video! ✌️
Great content Twix! waiting for the next drop, will it be RB life?
Respect to Lee from another member of team dad. I'm not saying it can't work, but he'll need his chiro/masseuse on speed dial.
I'll forward the number of my massage lady to him... Dad's are heroes!
the best edit about the legendary Type R FK2 Civic! the girl is amazing! love you guys ;:) you both made a excellent film. please make more
Hey great video here 😜 I got my blue FK2 since 2016 and it's always great, I love her 🥰 and you're right she's impossible to forget 🤘
Nice video and it's nice to see some love for the FK2 🙂 I'm an owner, it's worth mentioning that the FK2 had the lowest production number of all Civic Type R's (as well as lower than Integra Type R's). About 7500 produced. It's also quite different than the FK8 (stiffer suspension, more nervous at the rear, no comfort mode, magic seats), overall it's more "raw", which I prefer (but I know people who changed to a Ford Focus RS because the Civic as "too stiff"). Both are really nice and fun on the track (as well as quick) - I have some POV videos from track days and time attacks on my channel, if anyone's interested 🙂
BTW the GT version simply had some extra things like parking sensors, a bit better audio, satnav etc (as well as the red strip on the splitter part of the front bumper). In the UK you could buy the basic and GT versions (here in Poland only the GT one was sold).
BTW2 the handbrake leaver is placed closer to the passenger side in both LHD and RHD cars 🙂
Great vid Twix! A review of the cl7 from go garage in Sydney would be cool as well.
Props to Lee for being a family man with this car. I have an FG4 and it can be a lil hard with a kid but it’s so worth it!
Great job on this! Fascinating to learn more about the model that preceded my FK8. Wish Honda had kept an actual hand brake instead of the e-brake button I have in thexFK8. Although it does make a cool sound when you use it, sort of like landing gear being deployed. Clearly the turning circle was a lot better too.
Great stuff
really want the fk2 even though I own the fk8.
i love middle twix how she drives and interviews.
I only see these type Rs by picture but dont really know about them and not a lot of people i follow has this content! Love the video and gave me knowledge with these Type Rs! Keep up the great work! 🙌
This was really good, thank you! As a European it's strange for me, from 2006 to 2016 a Civic meant a hatchback here. (Although there was a sedan version too from 2004(?) to 2009 but only with a 1.3 or 1.4 hybrid petrol engine. But it was quite rare.)
This is famous for the first turbo Type-R and the first non-Japan oriented Type-R. Honda stopped to mention about Tsukuba, Suzuka and Motegi. Nürburgring only.
This one’s amazing!
Love FK2R, we got one here in Vic hoping to create video review like yours 👍🏼
Do you know the history of where you started from at 0:14 ? That was the entry to one of Sydney's lost racing circuits! (Amaroo Park) You would have only been a toddler when it closed lol. I have seen this car at Benzin so awesome to see you review it. Your videos are getting better every post. It was great to meet you at Cars and Coffee last weekend, my daughter was so happy to sit in your car but now she's bugging me to get a set of Recaros :(
Thank you for that little piece of history! It was lovely meeting you and your daughter the other week 😊 The recaros are definitely an investment...
My dad was the sales manager at Honda in the 80s/90s so I was lucky enough to be there when they introduced the 4WS Prelude, CRX, Accord, Civic and Legend from that era. I even got to sit in an F1 car. Still prefer my FD though over the H. That's cool he owns the first registered FX2. I own the last registered FD RX-7 sold in Australia 🌏🐨
I haven’t forgotten about this masterpiece
How come that Twix has lesser subscribers and views, she deserves more subscribers. Overall Twix vlogs are on a topnotch! Keep it up! And ya'll please do subscribe!
Thank you so much for the kind words! 😊 I make these videos as a diary of my life and hobbies, so if i can brighten people's day even just the slightest; that makes the happiest person
This is my favorite Civic Type R. Thanks for making a video on this forgotten car. Too bad we don't get it here in the states.
Love it, I got a gray version of this car 2016 model only 8k miles on the clock
Love it! I guess it right on the Insta story eh!! Now Do it an FK88!
You are one of the few that actually guessed it right! An FK8... Hmmm...
The FK2 was really gorgeous, is a shame it was so underlooked.
cool channel👍🏻🔥🔥🔥
Fun fact - The LHD eudm version has the handbrake on the opposite side from the cupholders as well. Not sure why they did that XD
Hey Twix could you do a video about the Honda Civic FD2 TypeR ? I would love to learn more knowledge about my dream car 🥺❤️
Wow this Type R looks absolutely stunning especially in that blue color with red accents 😍
Such an underrated car that i wish came to the US
Just imagine this thing with EK9 suspension design + FK8 front knuckle & diff, as well as aluminium roof + doors + fenders + bonnet. 🤤 Dreams are free lol
Got the same in white :) love it , so much nicer than the fk8
The actual first Vtec civic was the SiR EF Hatchback in 1989 lol. B16a 1st and 2nd Gen
still my fav gen of type-R ! fn2r still looks the best !!
This girl is awesome.
Never Forgotten !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have the eu version of the fk2, the hand brake is also on the opposite side here- aka the right side, near the passenger seat :/
Dream car which I hopefully will own in the future !!!
@middle Twix would you do a review of the Toyota 86?
Well done
I love my FK2R👍
I have an FK2 in the UK and am fortunate to be able to keep it garaged. I will not live anywhere without a garage.
Where did you get mugen power merch?
do more video like vlog ,keep it on
Nice Type R by the way
Muy genial 🙂
Regarding the handbrake positioning being closer to the passenger, it's actually nothing to do with it favouring LHD vehicles at all.
The Mazda 3 MPS has exactly the same awkwardly placed handbrake, I was under the same assumption regarding it being made for LHD models, however the LHD models actually still have it on the passenger side for some bizarre reason.
Same was the for S2K, Lexus IS200/Altezza, Nissan Quashqai etc.
Plenty of mixed reasons, nothing concrete that I found when wondering why lol.
Regardless, I love the FK2R, great vid. 😀
Thank you for the insight! Very awkward positioning - but i suppose it’s fine if you don’t use the cupholders for cups 😂
@@MiddleTwixAU Basically haha. One of my friends has an FD RX-7 and a bunch of other cars, the first time he got in my MPS, he actually lowered the handbrake as I was about to drive off.
Guess he doesn't like his leg being touched. 😂
2:19 First turbocharged Honda engine dates back to Honda City Turbo in the early 80's.
sucks so much that Australia missed out on so many civic Type R varients ! Id buy one today if we had more stock available. The 2 door Type Rs are my fav
interesting how different this type r is compared to the base model of that generation. Usually its been based on the regular civic but this is so different.
You should do a vid on the FN2R
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
this is actually my favorite type r
Love this R
The production and audio quality is something off the TV show.
Great review I like odd ball cars nobody wants and great CZcams name lol made me laugh
First Turbocharged Honda motor was the Honda City Turbo...
"you forgot about" as if I haven't been watching these on autotrader every day for the past 3 years
I never knew these came to Australia as a grey import. They are my favourite Civic R.
personally, this is my favorite type r
Well technically it IS the father of the FK8, as it is the same engine and I remember the promotion for it in Norway and Europe in general was actually pretty serious.
I have driven it plenty of times and it is an amazing engine and machine to drive
My dad has a limited edition fk2 white edition
I have an EP3 and Id like to upgrade to the FK2, but I read everywhere that the suspension is so hard and not regulable that is unbearable for a daily drive. :(
Will still be better then ep3
Final edition FK2 17plate owner....... Turbo the EP3 and have VTEC scream and Turbo flutter 👍👍
it exists and a 16 plate CW GT spec is my daily grin driver.
They never came to Australia because it was a bit late in the model cycle. I dont think Honda Australia could justify the compliance costs for a low volume car for a 1-2yr period.
wiper and blinkers
Though not a bad car, it's definitely not an entirely good CTR either.
Was based on the 9th-Gen Civic and came way too late. You got the feel being in an early 2010/2011 car despite buying one brand new back in 2015.
It had the shortest production lifespan in history of any CTR before it was quickly replaced by the more refined FK8, which was also marketed internationally. This led to very limited R&D and off-the-shelve aftermarket parts being produced for the FK2...the aftermarket support for this specific generation of the CTR is practically non-existent.
It lacked an independent rear suspension design which was a repeat in history from the FN2 Type R, another CTR that especially outside of Europe, was greatly overshadowed by the FD2 Type R, which had implemented an independent rear suspension design, which the later FK8 also would.
If Honda had managed to push this car into production and debut it much earlier in 2012/2013, it might've created a bigger and longer-lasting positive impact. Unfortunately, the sad truth is...this car came out only when they were also planning to kill off the 9th-Gen Civic's production lifespan.
Damn I didnt know the rest of the world never got this Honda. We were lucky here in South Africa to recieve these Type R's.
I actually love that body type for the civic so
This looks much better than the fk8.
I own one of this 💎 and it’s amazing car 🔥😎😈
There's two of these in my town, it's absolutely disgusting when you see it next to earlier and later civic Type-R models
how could i forget when it's always the only modern type r in racing games
I find that so funny 😂 it’s like a tease for the countries that didn’t get the FK2R
My favourite Type R. Save the £30k on an FL5 and pump it into the engine as the styling is spot on.
I remember the FK2R
The first turbocharged Honda car engine is actually in the 1985 Honda city turbo.
And 'kouki' is pronounced as ko-kee, not cookie.
