    ARS vs. Backflip is a very hot topic in the bodyboard community at the moment. I have recently done a article with shapeshiftersmag.com that explains my thoughts and opinion on the 2 moves and how to spot the differences...

    Bro please you must do an special episode just about completing those two moves, like the rights techniques to spin it around when landing an Ars or backie , and thank you for your effort

      I do talk a little about this in the tutorials but I will go a bit more in depth when I can get some better footage.

    Really glad you start this topic. Lately I thought the commentators on the IBC called backflips for those moves between an ARS and a true backflip. In my opinion those moves are closer to an ARS than a backie. As a reference I like to consider how the hips go above the body. If it's a tiny bit I consider it an ARS and if the hips are really above it's a back. For sure a true backflip (ie facing the wave when landing) should earn more points than those crooked backflip. And as a spectator , I find those crooked backflips boring to watch as you guys pro bodyboarders have it on lock whereas there is a real risk for the competitors to throw a true backie.

    Hello Ian, thanks for all this helpful information. Would be so nice if you upload a video explaining the momentum in aerial maneuvers . I think it's not easy to "jump" with the bodyboard, but it looks so easy in your POV videos.

    • @iaincampbell_
      @iaincampbell_  Před 4 měsíci

      Hi Pablo. What to you mean by that exactly? A lot of the momentum is a feeling. I can’t exactly explain that feeling as it’s a bit tough. Only thing I can do is explain the body positioning which is what I try to do in the tutorials but always up to hear thoughts so let me know 🤙🏼

    Champ: the timer is close to zero, you have a mega section coming up to win the final heat, so what do you do: a backflip, ARS, rollo, air invert, air forward/reverse, or something else?

    • @iaincampbell_
      @iaincampbell_  Před rokem

      There are so many factor that go into this decision that I can’t confidently make that call. 🤣🤣 safety would be an invert or reverse (landing facing the beach is always the safe option.

    Hey Iain I actually have a question about the surf spot caves…How big is the swell when you normally bodyboard caves?

    • @iaincampbell_
      @iaincampbell_  Před rokem +3

      Howzit. I don’t surf it over 3m ever on the charts unless there is a big period. But generally if the swell is about 2m it will be 4 feet.

    Great video, so good that you hit on this subject.
    The judging criteria is something I personally know very little, and though I think I can differentiate a smooth ride from a not-so-smooth one, I´d love to get a better grasp on what things compose a score.
    On a personal note, just today I was trying some closeout backflips and they are super hard to land, specially wearing gloves (water was 10 degrees celcius today).
    Any tips for them?
    I've tried to keep the rotation axis as straight as possible not to catch the rail, but other than that I´m in the dark, I miss more than those I get to finish ¨nicely¨...

    yo ian , i always ask myself why you're using this jaw camera instead of helmet with camera on ? Is it for the perspective ?

    My friend said dropping your left or right leg is important depending on lefts or rights when getting back in position on waves.
    Any truth behind this or does either leg work?

    • @iaincampbell_
      @iaincampbell_  Před rokem +2

      Inside leg usually works a bit better as you’re spinning that way to complete the move.

    i wonder who invented cregs and does it really look better or is it preferable?

    • @iaincampbell_
      @iaincampbell_  Před rokem +2

      I think it helps you spin and stay compact. When you look at gymnastics, staying compact you can spin fast and to slow down you throw your limbs out. Same strategy with bodyboarding…

    Never been able to do a backflip. ARS isnt an issue. Got neck n shoulder damage. Right side of trapezoid bulges out like fark.
