    I got to see the 9500 today, which was the newer version of this, almost the same except a much better CD mech with a top disc lock built into the sliding lid.
    The cassette mech is all direct drive with no belts, but otherwise almost the same, putting out 200W.
    Guy wanted $1200 for it and I was tempted!
    I know this has a Phillips CD system in it, but the chances of finding one of those will be hard.
    We mostly use it as a head to pass the TV through and for records.

      @beitie Před 11 měsíci

      @@-thirteen There are many different ways that companies rate the power output of their amplifiers. My guess is that 200 watts was just an off the top of the head guess, when looking at the "Longterm Max Output Power" rating listed on Beoworld (80 watts per channel, x 2 channels, 160 Watts)... As where the rating is 40 Watts per channel (I think that is at 8 Ohms, but not sure) listed on Beocentral, and then another rating of RMS 30 Watts per channel 20 Hz - 20kHz

    There is a common axial philips capacitor (33uF I think) that goes bad in the CD drive. Don't let anyone tell you it can't be fixed or costs a fortune. I have fixed tons of them. That CD drive is one of the best ever made. The lasers basically don't die unless someone messes with the power setting. I own 4 of these and a set of Penta 2's. I restored them myself.

    I have a Beocenter 7700, it was my grandmother's. She got it at my urging(she could afford it), the reason I urged her to get it. Only one button to turn on the radio. This woman could not work any 80's technology, she could dial a phone. The tv was pushing it a lot.
    I got in an argument with my uncle, that she should get something cheaper. Nope, she will turn every last knob, and push every button. And still not not be able to turn on the radio.
    She loved that B&O system, for 20 years whenever I visited her. The classical music was on. It never had any problems. It does today, but that's just age. She got the system somewhere in 82-3.
    Later she did a CD player, it is really cool. But, yep it's busted.

    Very fun video you have done here! I love your enthusiasm over these items! A couple little points though, the Master Control Panel will work somewhat with the Beocenter 9000, but not well. The MCP and the Beolink 7000 are two way IR remotes, so those remotes are also looking for a IR signal coming back from the Beocenter. The Beocenter 9500 is two way compatible. • @stephenhall3515
    @stephenhall3515 Před 9 měsíci +1

    As Runco says below, B&O used Philips CD mechanisms through the 1980s and this means that repair is easier and cheaper than might be thought.
    Philips CD mechanisms were used because the Dutch company invented the CD and it was more economical to fit their mechanisms rather than design brand ones but still pay royalties. Many were also in laptops and they tended to standardize into two main body types able to hold different face plates per brand of machine.
    The only problem is that getting at the CD mechanisms on B&O stuff is not a DIY job. You would need to take the whole unit to a good repairer and, chances are that they will know the overall suspension points on the various units so be able to reach them with relative ease once the base is off. B&O usually put schematics into the bases of machines in envelopes.
    As Runco says, the usual culprit for not running is a capacitor. Sony later used the same ones but they were better sealed and did not 'sweat', so if your 9000 has the capacitor disease rest assured that the spares are plentiful and usually around $10 new.

I would agree, Nice tec for 80s technology., but still a bit too pricey used 30, 35 years later for whats now old tec. but at least you're getting quality compared to the overprised crap most companies are putting out today. I'll just stick with my Sony from the 90s. it might not be the same quality or even came close to costing as that new, but it still works. Most people today don't care for or use any of those formats anymore... Record player, Cassette, even CD, sadly pretty much all absolute formats anymore to most people, just like my VHS... I'm old school too. I like the older stuff but, still out of my price range, and I'm not really sure if it would be worth it if I had it realistically, but thanks for sharing Bob, It's really interesting to learn about. 😉👍

      @@gizmothingy25524 all turntables have isolation, but that is to protect it from OUTSIDE vibrations. With the dust cover down, it creates an echo chamber that can reverberate WITHIN that space itself, where the sensitive pickup system is located. Nothing about B&O decks protect it from this scenario. I have arguably the best they ever produced (Beogram 8000). B&O equipment is almost never considered "audiophile" gear, but a few vintage models are actually worthy of that title, the Beogram 8000 with its spectacular MMC 20CL cartridge. The BeoCord 9000 cassette deck was also one of the best as well.
      It is specifically a dust cover to do just that when not being used. This is just a well known, simple, science based accoustic affect. You "may" not notice any difference, as it's affects varies wildly from system to system (how the rest of your components interact with the signal is equally important).
      It's just a general rule, as it can definitely have a detrimental affect and has no benefit.
