- In this video I show you how to change the oil on a self oiling, industrial sewing machine. This video will work on most self oiling sewing machines with oil pans that have a screw to drain the oil. We demonstrate this on a Juki DDL-5550N. This will work for the Juki DDL-8700, DU-1181N, DDL-8100e, DDL-5530N, DDL-8300N and many more.\
Here is the link for the video I refer to if the oil pan's drain screw is too tight. • Loosen tight oil pan s... - Jak na to + styl
I am first time industrial machine user and did not know I needed oil until my machine came!, what a great video.thank you so much for making this task so easy.🙂
I am needing to drain the oil from my machine as I am moving it to a charity sewing group. So glad for your video. Welll explained, clear pictures and that saves me having to get a sewing machine tech to do it.
Great video. I just retired and moved back to our place after being away for 7years. I have a industrial machine which is very similar looking to this one. I was trying to figure out how to change the oil when i found this channel. Thanks so much, i am looking forward to doing it tomorrow. Thanks again
Thank you, it's very useful video... Helps me how to change oil for my sewing machine.. God bless you sir
You are welcome.
Thanks Steve! That was both thorough and well-explained. I appreciate the help!
No problem at all.
I just got a Juki DDL 5550 and it’s my very first machine. Your videos have literally sawed me and the machine. Thank you so much for them!
Glad I could help!
Thank you for the sharing. I have one question after I change the oil but the oil can not pump up to the top of the machine small window when I use the sewing machine how can I fix?
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I just purchased a Juki DDL8700 and I have to add oil to it.
That was so helpful. One question should you top up your old oil, or is it best to just run it till to low then change it or can you just by the colour. Is there a time limit how often you should change the oil. Thank you . Jan Wales 🏴 UK
Only add to the oil if it goes below the low mark on the oil pan. When you tilt the machine back there will be some oil left in the machine. I would change the oil when it changes color. When clear oil gets yellow or when yellow oil gets darker. 1 year is a good time frame too.
Excellent video!!! Thank you
You are welcome!
Good one. Steve 👍.
Thank you so much for this video tutorial.
Is there a way to get a long screwdriver like the one that comes with new machines. I have a second hand ddl-555 there is also a second screw on my oil pan at the nub...
Juki may sell them but we buy our screw drivers though Wiha.
Thank you so much for this video Steve, I was initially trying to loosen the screw by putting the screwdriver in the whole indent and that wasn't working. Thanks again!
Thanks! I was trying to figure out how to pull the pan out and dump the oil! 🤦♀️
Glad I could help!
Helpful video, thanks a lot 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you. I have never used this machine before. I have lots of other sewing machines. I have another question. Why does it sew one stitch and then the upper thread breaks? The hand wheel feels very stiff. Is that normal?
Thank you so much. Very helpful😎👍
Hello, I just replaced the oil on my DL8700. I run it in high speed too, but there is no oil splash on the oil sight glass. Is it normal please?
Thanks a lot sir for that informato video
Most welcome.
How often should i change the oil?
Hey Steve,
I'm not seeing any oil splash up in the sight glass on top of the machine. Is that normal?
Thank you for the clear video.
You are most welcome!
Hello there, very useful tutorial in a language I can understand, eventually 😊 most of the videos are in hindi 😱 I have a question. I have a jack f4, I think the method to change the oil is pretty much the same. My question is :today, when I was lifting the machine to check on the oil level, as I started to lift it I heard a very strange sound. I kept on lifting and I Ended up chipping the paint of the sewing machine table where one of the hinges was😱 is it normal? I then noticed that I might should have pulled the machine closer to me. It was just a matter of millimeters, but that was the space the machine lacked to be able to bend. Hope what I wrote makes sense. I'm Italian 😅 thanks. I was very sad when I found out I had ruined the top of the machine's table 😭
My industrial sewing machine is running but it won’t stitch. I opened the oil pan and it was dirty. I emptied the oil and cleaned it. I will put new oil in but I’m wondering if there’s anything else I should do. The handle won’t turn because I think machine has been sitting too long unused and the oil has not circulated. My machine repair specialist is five weeks out on repairs. I have an industrial straight stitch Yamata.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Thank you do.much
How can I get the left side of machine off? The tension spring is broke. It has 3 screws is that all?
Am I correct in assuming that no other parts on the head need oiling as it all comes from the pan underneath?
Hello. I just received my new Jack A4E sewing machine. I would like to make sure if l can adjust the speed for my sewing. Also l put oil o the ceservoir as a first step to set up the machine. Could you please help with this?
Hi Steve,
Thank you for the video!
Could you tell me what the magnet would do? Do you need it or could you live without?
Thank you and
All the Best
Lars from Germany
The top clear plug do you put oil in there ? Or what is that for tks
Thank you very much for explaining. It is very helpful. Where are you guys? I am in CA if i need ask to help to fixing my machine i have no idea to ask for… my husband bought for me Juki-5550N from online… so if i need ask help I don’t know what to do…. Especially these special machines…
Great video, thank you for this!
You are welcome. Thanks for watching!
If there isn't enough oil in the pan could your machine not work right? As in, if you turned it on and there wasn't enough oil the needle wouldnt go up and down?
My mother was just given a Juki sewing with a table like this ,most of the seal around the pan and the machine is missing, any suggestions on where to get a new one?
My wife had JUKI 5550N-7 long time ago ,we were moving a lot , every time we moved I rained out the oil and refilled when she used it , but this time I forgot to refilled the oil , she had been used the machine for awhile then the machine stop working , please tell me what is wrong with it and what part should I need to replace ?
thank you
great video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video, thank you. I have a Tacsew T111-155 that the former owner did not use the oil pan - he just hand oiled. BTW, the machine runs fine but I want recharge the system. Will I have to purge air from the lines or do I just fill the pan and let the machine run for a period of time. Thank you
I just got a dll 227 and the only thing I can see wrong is a cracked oil pan rubber gasket. Do you sell replacement pieces?
Do you start up the machine and wait a few min then add oil . Or do you oil the machine when it’s turn off ?
Great video thanks. I bought my Juki DDL227 2nd hand and has been sitting here for about 18months. went to use the other day and the needle moves up and down slowly when the machine is switched on, but I'm not touching the pedal. Any ideas why and what I can do to sort the problem.
Thank you
Great job
Thank you.
I see some videos show a magnet in the oil pan on top of the screw that empties the oil for catching broken needles, does the DU-1181n machine have that?
It should come with a small circular magnet.
Thank you for your help
No problem.
How is that black plug up high attached. What is it called.
which type of oil use in juki ddl 8700e.?
What is the intervals to change oil
How to know if it's time to change the oil?
Great video, thanks! I have just got a second hand 8100e and upon opening the machine discovered there was only a tiny amount of oil in it (way below minimum) along with a ton of pins and other debris and the magnet was rusted I think. I couldnt unscrew the oil pan screw so just dabbed the oil out, but now im worried that the machine was being used with the dirty oil (or next to no oil). What problems could this cause in the machine? Is there anything else I should check for before using it (after replacing the oil of course).
Hi Steve, there's a tube , somewhere there, mine just broken, will it be bad if I keep on using without it, I appreciate the help 😭😭
I would replace the tube.
Thank you!
great video. I have a juki DDL-5550N-7 the manual specifies Defrix #1 oil, as opposed to #7. I believe you when you say that you can use generic oil, but do you know what the difference between Defrix #1 and #7? they're both juki branded.
Please what can you do if your machine is splashing oil too much from the top?
Hi Steve, are you able to tell me why I am getting oil marks on my leather sewing. I have cleaned my needle and hook but it seems to continue. Many thanks, Janine
Hi Mick. Watch this video: czcams.com/video/YlfrWAxrLdU/video.html
What does it mean when the oil tray has an yellow clay look at the bottom and the tray's oil pan looks a little corroded? Is this bad?
I do not know. I have never seen that.
Please share how to make how to loosen if screw is too tight
I have a brother machine (same set up as this) what oil should I be using? I bought it second hand but I don’t think the previous owner ever serviced it. (There was a lot of gunk in the oil pan)
Lily white oil.
Great Video!! I have a Juki DLN-415-4 this was helpful. Will new oil sitting around go bad? I have a mostly full jug that is still clear colour but its been around in a dark room for a few years. Is it ok to use or should I some new stuff?
I am not an expert on this, but if it is still clear it should be fine.
How much oil to put in the Judi sewing machine?
I got one Juki DDL-555 from my uncle that passed away and I plugged it in and the transmitter turns on and runs good but the belt tha goes from it to the machine is missing so the machine doesn’t run because it’s missing that belt. How can I know what belt it is and is it hard to find one
I cannot not tell you with 100% accuracy, but an older DDL-555 with a clutch motor probably takes a 42" belt. We have them in stock.
Please tell after how many months we need to change oil
Wondering if you suggest where to get the oil from. And what was the generic oil you said was okay to use? I live in the United States
Lily white oil. We stock it. 888-505-4565.
Helpful video. My question is how did you loosen the belt so you could tilt the machine head back?
You do not need to loosen the belt to tilt it back. The belt will loosen as you tilt the machine.
@@Sewinggold Thanks for the quick reply. It seems as though a repairman told me I had to loosen the belt to the motor to get the head to tilt back and that is what I did then. I would be happy not to have to do it again. I have a Juki 8500. I have not added or changed the oil for a very long time, so it is surely due for it. Very helpful and well presented video by the way. I think my Juki serger is also due for oiling.
Nice vids, how to identify if juki sewing Mac. is Japan or China made. Thanks for tips & good luck Steve
It should be on the label where the model number is.
if my machine did not come with a magnet, can I put any magnet at the bottom?
Absolutely.
my oil just keep leaking out of my machine what can i do to stop it
Hi Do you have any videos on servicing these machines? Or is an oil change all that's needed as far as regular maintenance goes? I have an 8300 and I'm not exactly sure if or how i service it myself.
Keep it clean. Change the oil as needed. Check the hook for burrs. If you ever run into a problem, re-thread the machine and change the needle. Make sure the needle is not in backwards. A few basic things to do too maintain the machine.
@@Sewinggold Thanks so much!
Super sar

You are most welcome.
Is 600 ml enough oil to put in the juki ddl8700 machine?
450ml is enough.
Could you say suitable pressure foot for juki DDL 8100e?
How much oil fills it up to "high".
What happen if you put oil without removing excess oil in the machine?
How old is the oil that is still in the machine?
Good video! How would I change the oil pump? And where does the rubber joint go?? Thanks
Unfortunately we do not have a video on changing the oil pump. Next time we do that repair I will try and film it.
Unfortunately we do not have a video of that fix yet.
Hi what this screw name I want to order can u reply me please
Thank you so much. I would like to know where we can buy the oil.
We stock generic lily white oil and the genuine Juki Defix oil. Give us a call. 888-505-4565
@@Sewinggold does you also delievered in india
CAN YOU TELL ME WHY MY MACHINE WOULD LEAK FROM THE SCREW PART, ITS IN THERE REAL TIGHT
Missing rubber gasket?
How much oil goes into the older model of Juki 8 series sergers?
What is the exact model number?
Can I use another oil - universal, or just special Juki oil?
Lily white oil or Juki Defrix oil.
@@Sewinggold Thank you!!!!!
What is the string that hangs down into the oil pan?
It's a wick. It pulls oil up into the machine.
I found mould in my oil should I be worried...
I have a huge leak under the machine drives me crazy have to put a bucket under it.
More often then not the problem is the rubber seal under the screw in the oil pan. Remove the oil, and then the screw. Inspect the rubber washer/seal and replace. Replace the screw and make sure it is fully tight. Replace the oil and let me know if that worked.
How often do you need to change the oil? When do you know you need to change the oil?
Yearly is easy to remember. If the oil is turning yellow or is dirty.
Can you use linseed oil?
I would not use any oil except Juki Defrix oil or lily white sewing machine oil.
How often do you change the oil
Once a year or when it looks dirty or when it changes from clear to yellow. :)
How often you have to change the oil?
6 months to a year is good. There is no set time. I usually tell people to change it when it looks dirty or the color changes.
How to control oil to shettel
Watch this video: czcams.com/video/YlfrWAxrLdU/video.html
Wait, there is less then 450ml of oil in the pan?
Okay, that answers a question that has been eating away at me for a long time.
Tell me
Minimum oil level
To be safe, at the low line in the oil pan.

You could literally use the empty bottle to suck the oil out of the oil pan. Squeeze out the air, suck out some oil. Dump the oil into another container and repeat until empty.
Question please: is this how for the 1541s also, and does knee-lifter lever have to be removed to tip machine back? Thank you.
It does have to be removed to tilt the machine back. Here is a video that shows you oiling and putting the knee lifter back on. czcams.com/video/si48hTreeuQ/video.html
@@Sewinggold Hi. Thanks for link but the link still won’t open. I’ve tried many times. Haven’t turned new machine on yet. Pretty sure I have to put oil in it first, then install knee lifter. Hope you can help. Thank you
@@cynforrest It should work now.
