  • Used for many years now, the TrackPack is a tried and true method for mounting tracking equipment to falcons. As the originators of the original mounting method for said TrackPack asserted however, despite being functional and safe, there is always room for innovation.
Ricardo Velarde now demonstrates the results of recent innovations with the new method for mounting TrackPacks that involves less time, is more forgiving, and can be done with greater ease.

Putting a backpack on a falcon is one of those things that should be done just right. That means if it's your first time, I highly recommend doing so with an experienced person alongside, or at least shortly after install to examine your final outcome.

I am SUPER excited to use this technique with my Harris' hawk. Thanks for posting this!

I am not convinced by this new way of doing it. The longer the teflon is, greater can be the miscalculation of its length. Also the longer it is the more it can move and wound the falcon. I believe a trackback is the best tool ever to hold a transmitter on a falcon. From my experience the only way to put it well is to try and unfortunately cut it and do it again until it is perfect. The smaller the falcon the harder it is. By the way Marshall should modify the trackback on the Micro Transmitter, way to small to easily take of the transmitter after the flight. Looking forward to see how this new way works for falconers who might try it. Anyway thanks for the video, things cannot be improved without people looking for solutions and try new stuff

Great work. Unfortunately my Redtailed Hawk would absolutely freak out before he'd let me fit a track pack.

A; small crochet hook would also work as a feather preening tool.

This new method injured my Falcon, under his legs, infection spread and killed it. This method should not be encouraged. As the Falcon flaps his wings, the rope moves back and forwards thousands of times, creating friction and ultimately cutting the Falcon delicate skin, rendering its flight performance. Stick to the old method where the wings and legs are not connected with a rope.

Installing the trackpack PERMANENTLY is never safe. I have seen people posts on Falconry group whose falcons got wounded under the leg because of the trackpack.
It would be Good if there is a method that could install the trackpack easily and uninstall it easily...

  • @falconryandwildlifevideos6200

Also the angle when the teflon passes under the wings kind of holding the trackback. The short length doesn't give much access to the falcon. What about when the falcon is taking care of its feathers ? If he is grabbing the teflon close to its leg can the trackback move down ?

This new technique is causing wounds between the legs of the Falcon. Please be aware.

paulushilarius good thing it’s something that doesn’t require music, words, or captions to understand. Just watch it with music and captions off.
