Lyrics:
She asked me how to be funny
But that’s not something you can teach
What seemed so blue in the sunlight
By the night was a pale green
And I tried to hold her
But it didn’t really last long
And she’s getting older
I guess she’s gotta cut her blue hair off
She asked me if she was pretty
Well it’s clear that the girl’s a fraud
There’s really no way of winning
If in their eyes you’ll always be a dumb blonde
And she cried over nothing
So there was nothing I could do to stop
Her from cutting
Her beautiful blue hair off
It looked like cotton candy
And just as quick to get licked away
Last I heard she was living
With a boy who acts his age
And I guess I’ll just miss her
Even though she isn’t even really gone
But things are just different
Ever since she cut her blue hair off
-
"Her hair was unkempt, frazzled, as though she'd been trying to tear it out by the roots, and her face seemed shapeless, blank. But maybe it was the distance or the strange light, because as she came towards me, moving coldly, disdainfully, yet dreamily, not as a body but as shifting shimmering light, she seemed to grow in stature and her years dropped away. She walked like a good politician, simulating dignity, self-assurance, humility. Already practicing probably for the last walk to follow."
-The Public Burning
released May 8, 2018
All the songs were written by Brad Petering.
And were mixed and mastered by Jason Wyman.
The Song "Drift Down" incorporates elements of a song of the same name by a group called "Snow Mantled Love" A great band that never got their fair due.
The song "Death of a Party Girl" uses a sample of the song "New Tomorrow" by the Legendary Pink Dots. Used here with the generous permission of lead dot Edward Ka-Spel.
Additional vocals were provided by Molly Raney, who performs as "Poppet" and is worth checking out.
Even more additional vocals were provided by Lydia Fothergill.

I’ve seen several different interpretations for this song, so I wanna give my thoughts. I think the blue haired girl is moving on with her life, growing, and maturing, while the singer is stuck in the past. The girl is transforming from a teen to an adult, so she’s growing up. She’s no longer as rebellious as she used to be, and she’s embracing her natural self, much to the singer’s disdain. Of course, he’s not actually talking about hair. He’s talking about who she was when she had blue hair. Her cutting her blue hair off was a signifier that she was changing. Overall this is a lovely song through both perspectives. On one hand, it’s about a girl growing up and maturing, but on the other hand it’s about a boy who longs for things to return to the ways they once were and who the girl used to be. She’s different now, she’s matured and moved on. It’s like an old friend changing, you know they’re not really gone, but they’ve changed and you just want to have your old friend back
Love it ❤

To me, this song is the idea that you don’t love someone despite their flaws, you love them because of their flaws. So when they change you don’t love them the same.
Agreed
Agreed but I think that it's about how you have a friend who wants to change into what others like hence why the line "And I guess, I'll just miss her, even though she's not really gone, things are just different" makes more sense
i know that nobodys gonna see this but this song rlly means alot to me. my dad died yesterday and i know thats not how your supposed to interpret this song but it reminds me of a dad watching his daughter grow up and mature and it really makes me miss my dad and thats why i love it so much.
awh this is so cute ): rest in peace to your dad
Im sorry for your loss may he rest in peace
im so sorry for ur loss
I'm so sorry, but this is a really beautiful take on the song
to be honest that's how i view the song too, and i am sorry for your loss
"And I guess I'll just miss her, even though she isn't even really gone, but things are just different". I really miss what our relationship used to be. I miss who you used to be as well. You're still here, but it's just not the same anymore. I'm afraid things aren't going to work out in the end, but I love you still.
This song is the definition of hypnotic. If you focus on the guitar strums as they contrast against the vocals starting at 1:39 it will become the only thing you can hear in the song. Transfixing in the best of ways.
I think you’re just crazy, brother. I can hear both of them even if I fixate on the strums.
@@dandelionbloberg noo i can hear it too
i hadnt really focused on them until you mentioned it. made me hear the song in a new perspective, and now i can definitely not unhear them.
Thank you, I started noticing this in more of TV Girl's songs and I think that's what makes them so special, if you focus on the instrumental and vocal parts more it really is something.
Yeah this is what i feel from a rush of blood too
the lyrics "and i guess, i just miss her, even tho she isn't even really gone, things are just different, ever since she cut her blue hair off" for me the blue hair signifies your personality, it is like changing your whole personality and things started to change as you do, but there's a part of you that still misses your old self and wishing for it to comeback
This is genuinely so nostalgic even tho it was like 10 months ago
I interpret this as being about someone who didn't fit in because of her quirks (the "blue hair"), and had to adapt, cutting off all the extraordinary parts of herself in the process. While upset because she gives in so easily (calling her a fraud), the singer can't help but long after the connection he had with the girl, as he watched her become someone bland, someone anonymous.
I'm not into gatekeeping but this song means too much for me
Literally

yeah, I guess I shouldn't have said "ruined" but what bothers me the most is when someone refers to it as "that tiktok song" its just really annoying when a song gets popular it feels like the song is being reduced to a viral trend rather than appreciated for its musical qualities.

I love it when the teachers or whatever the fuck they are let us play music
TV Girl's music takes me back to when I had to move back into my parents house a few years ago because my life became really tough, they live near the sea side, I got a job in a hotel to try build up some savings to get my life back on track, it was one of the worst jobs I had ever had, I was talking to a close friend of mine who was helping me get through everything, he showed me TV Girl's music, after every shift I would walk back to my parents place along the shoreline with my headphones on, I would play them to try to calm myself listening to the music merge with the sound of the waves, it was a very important life lesson and turning point for me and I will never forget the feeling, thank you TV Girl and thank you Max for showing me his music, I wanna throw my friend Max some love as he's a music producer and heavily influenced by TV Girl, this is the least I can do, he's just released a new track, please try searching Lonely Gimmick - Beaches ,you may be in for a surprise and he would love to hear your opinion

this song screams september-october
There are several interpretations to this song. Let me explain it all for you.
1- As you can know, most people with daddy issues or people with mental illnesses in general dye their hair blue just like sa victims get a medusa tattoo and suicidal people get a semi colon tattoo. What I think is like, the guy who's singing and the girl he's mentioning fell in love while her hair was still in blue. While she was still suffering and mentally ill and going through some stuff. They went through hard times together, while her hair was blue. She was a mentally ill blue haired girl in his heart. But then, she cuts it off, she gets rid of it, her hair. She wants to heal, she wants to move on from all those trauma. But, for him, it feels weird because he has always known her as the mentally ill girl. All those stuff they went through. She became a whole new happy person instead of the depressive person he loved and used to know. He was now the only depressive one in the relationship.
2- It could be showing that she's growing up. The lyrics "And she’s getting older" and "It looked like cotton candy" proves this. Like children, love glitters and unicorns. C'mon admit it we all dreamt of dying our hair bright pink or blue. She dyed her hair when she was still a child. and the guy singing it has known her since then. He has known her all his life as the childish girl with blue hair. and now, she matured and changed. So he's y'know. His childhood crush or friend or his kindergarden girlfriend changed so yeah. or it could mean that the girl was still childish up to her adulthood because of she didn't have a proper childhood. Now, she's finally starting to act her age. The lyrics "Last I heard she was living, With a boy who acts his age" proves this.
3- I'm not very sure about this but I think the blue hair could mean her neck and her life. The line "And I tried to hold her, But it didn’t really last long" proves this. And also the line "And she cried over nothing, So there was nothing I could do to stop, Her from cutting, Her beautiful blue hair off" I feel like some of y'all can understand it if you have ever had a suicidal friend or somebody dear to you that committed suicide. I think her hair was actually blonde? Since the song mentioned "you'll always be a dumb blonde" which means her hair wasn't actually blue. Blue hair must've represented something else. And I think her neck or her life was the perfect interpretation. But you might be confused because the lyrics mentioned "And I guess I’ll just miss her, Even though she isn’t even really gone, But things are just different. Ever since she cut her blue hair off" The lyrics mean that he'll miss her, even though she is still forever in his memories and his heart. Things are different ever since she cut her neck/life off because she's not really in front of him and he cannot hold her anymore.
4-This interpretation is the same as the 3rd interpretation that I mentioned but instead of her neck, I think blue hair could mean her veins. Suicide by slitting your wrists. That makes much more sense because hair is quite similar to veins more than a neck. I'm not really a doctor, a surgeon or biology expert so I don't really know about the science of the color of veins. It might be blue after u die idk.
Wow u left me speechless. Im really grateful for your interpretations mainly bc I was struggling with finding my own. U really helped me understand this amazing song. Thank you so much
wow your interpretations are amazing, I don't know but I get a feeling that you're good at writing. If you ever write a book or a novel I want to read it :)
@@tiemizinha_ Thank you😍😍
Im guessing he's the blue hair
@@kirastarlight6494For the 3rd point you said, it doesn't show that the person with blue hair originally had blonde hair, because in the lyrics it actually states: "And Theres no way of winning, if in their eyes, you'll always be a dumb blonde." Which indicates that the person they are talking about being a person with blue hair while from the possibly still blue hair character, their perspective of the speaker is titled as a dumb blonde.

I cant do anything but smile when i hear this song. The music, the vocals bring me comfort, like i would be wrapped up in a soft and heavy blanket. I love it.
The real meaning of it it's really really sad
How i personally interpret this song from my personal experience is a couple who used to have a perfect relationship but over time it just weared down and the singer still wants to stay with her while the girl doesnt really seem to try anymore because their once prospering relationship isnt the same it once was, they eventually break up and choose to remain as friends but the and the girl seems to miss the memories but knows to move on and gets another boyfriend which is what the blue hair is symbolizing and why she was crying and why the singer couldnt stop her from cutting the beautiful blue hair and another piece of symbolism is the cotton candy line where it was sweet but just as quick to go away which i believe represents the relationship and the singer knows she isnt completely gone and their still friends but its just not the same as it was before hence him still missing her
I know it's kind of pointless to comment on this, but this song has a very important meaning for me, since yesterday my dog died and she was with me for years and she was my best friend.
i loved her so much and now it hurts to know i will never see her again.
I will miss her a lot

Bun bun bun bun bun bun and she cried (banana) over nothing (banana)
THABK U FOR THIS MASTERPIECE!!
“crying over nothing” is so relatable istg😭😭
I made a story based off of this song:
"Am I pretty?" she asked me, false tears trailing down her face.
It was clear to me that she was a fraud, these tears were nothing but an attempt to make me sympathise for her.
I knew there was no point in trying to win this conversation so I grabbed my coat and rushed out of her home. I felt a swarm of different emotions forming in my chest, I clenched my fists trying to not let the angry tears fall out on accident. I snatched my phone out of my pocket immediately punching in my brother's phone number.
I told him everything and he muttered under his breath,
"I guess she'll always be a dumb blonde."
The day ended just as fast as it started, I ran past the gas station on my way to my apartment block.
I had to calm down, so I grabbed a packet of cigarettes.
It was now the next day and I had to face her at school, great I thought to myself.
I brushed her off the second I entered the classroom, ignoring her pathetic pleas.
The day had quickly ended, I had stayed behind for band practice and was now on my way to collect my stuff from the locker room. As I approached, I heard familiar crying, so I peeked into the room.
There she sat, crying over absolutely nothing. I was shocked when I saw her pulling out a large kitchen knife. I quickly hid behind the door, so there was nothing I could do to stop her from cutting,
Her beautiful blue hair off...
