I think this is by far the best recorded guitar rendition of this tune. Most versions turn into blowing over the changes. This one really plays the song and never quits. Amazing taste
I'm new to Muthspiel's music and I just happened to see it when looking for recordings of vocalists singing this song Peace by Horace Silver. I've listened to Bobby McFerrin's and Norah Jone's vocal interpretations and they're great. Wolfgang's approach is quite unique, with chords I don't recognize, and lots of dynamics. I suspect this cat can really hang it out there, but had the goog taste to not abuse this composition to highlight his chops doing shredding etc.- which have no place in this piece IMHO. Too bad it's such a short version. I found a nice transcription of Peace that really helped me understand the key changes. I was confused trying to do it myself and discovered why - It's all in a single repeated A Section! No Bridge or Interlude etc., but all the versions I've heard imply there are sections by the way they play the inversions and rhythms. So while there are several key changes, it's all self-contained in one section. Now to study how to navigate these changes, and make everything as smooth as possible. I'll be doing a puccolo solo (whistling) and this will be a fun Challenge once I'm sure of the changes. Thank you Mr. Silver!!!
