  • The 1.4 update was released recently for PC2 which FINALLY fixed the VR issues I was having. What better way to celebrate than by jumping in one of the fastest cars in the game, complete with halo alternative!

    Fun Fact about the People manufacturing the Windscreen. They also make the Windscreens for Jets. Fighterpilots don't complain about their Windscreen makeing them feel sick, so they should overcome Vettel's complaints about his makeing him feel sick. Another thing is that the Indycars have a fixed Angle to which the one tested on a F1 Car previously had a CONTINUES one. Lots of testing to do.. but the FIA or Liberty Media already started with the HALO that they had a fixed Deadline to implement a Safety Device in 2018, and the Halo was the only Device out of several that was ready to be used.. basically, i'm sure the FIA is aware that the Halo isn't great, and they will most likely switch it against something else if enough testing has been done. We have a whole Year to overcome, we might have the Windscreen next year, so cross your Fingers.

    I much prefer the windscreen approach, it worked before, and it will work again. That said, I do like the way that Formula E made the halo work as part of the overall design, whereas Formula 1 just makes it look like a bolted on safety feature.
    The sleeker indycar makes the windscreen look that much better, I can see the aircraft inspiration. At least Indycar is trying to make it work instead of scrapping it after the first try.

    Looks better but also failed all the fia crash tests. Fia tested couple of different aeroscreens and none worked. They even tried putting one into vettel's car knowing beforehand it would distort the view. If the windscreen idea worked f1 would have used it.
    F1 wants something that can protect the driver from tires flying at you at 100mph. Halo does it, visor doesn't. Indycar wants protection from little bits flying at you 300kmh on ovals. Halo doesn't do that (some get through) but a visor does. The visor could be better for indycars but the halo is clearly better for f1. The visor obviously looks much better but if you want things put on the cars purely based on looks you may want to watch formula e instead.

    Yeah so when I saw the halo I thought that it looked ugly, now in 2020 and in 2019 I think that it looks awesome. Plus it's much safer, well if an accident like Massa getting hit by a spring occured the halo wouldn't help, but the windscreen wouldn't help against a tire or a car flying into you, but when you think about it they could have halo and the windscreen, but I guess teams don't want extra weight even tho it would be safer and it made Vettel sick, but he just has to get used to it

      Maybe they used different materials.
      As I understand it, both the Halo and the Aeroscreen were pretty rushed, and the halo won out simply by doing what the FIA asked of it, when the deadline came up.
      Who knows, maybe after they've had some time to work on the Aeroscreen, it'll replace the Halo in the future.

    • @Faithful-Preservation
      @Faithful-Preservation Před 6 lety +36

      The Shield (as the FIA called it) was tested by Vettel and he came in after just one lap because he felt nauseated by all the distortions. The Indy version seems to be made by a company who has a lot of experience in making aerospace canopies so they would know a thing or two about glare and distortion.
      The FIA wanted a cockpit solution in place for 2018. Making changes to the Shield would require more development and testing, so the FIA went with an ugly but proven solution, the Halo. I hope for 2019 they have a working screen.

      Just because a driver acknowledges and accepts the risks when they get into the car doesn't mean we should become placid to them. A child doesn't want to see their hero die on the track.
      As for the tyre thing, that's not the only risks that a Halo device prevents. Cars are increasingly commonly finding themselves upended (both Alonso and Weherlein found this out the hard way during the 2016/2017 seasons respectively) and cars even ending up on top of each other (Alonso and Grosjean in 2012, and Schumacher and Liuzzi in Abu Dhabi 2010, where Michael was inches away from getting decapitated by a Force India).
      This sport has, time and time again, proven that complacency takes lives. Complacency by Williams killed Senna in 1994, Complacency by both the Race Officials and Jules himself killed Bianchi just a few years ago.
      Final thought, is "Safety Fucks" supposed to be an insult? Because it was a real bad one if so.

    • @volrath__
      @volrath__ Před 6 lety +2

      You guys make it sound like the FIA didn't do extensive research into if the halo would have a positive or negative effect, they looked at several incidents throughout open wheel racing history and found that the Halo would have a positive impact on all incidents.
      Check out this video from a dude that is against the halo implementation for a breakdown of the research and findings, a lot of what's been said for and against halo is just conjecture...

    Hold on, so the Formula X is "between F1 and Indycar"? I thought the Formula X in PC2 was basically a hypothetical "best car we could conceivably build with our current technology, pulling out all the safety stops etc" car. Basically that the FX was the car we all wish they'd build but probably never will due to regulations and all that. I'm fairly new to sim racing, but in my experience with PC2 so far, it seems the F1 (Formula A) is faster than the Indycars, but the FX is WAY faster than the F1. That beast goes 410kph or so with a good gearing setup. It seems to have heaps more power, and is an absolute monster on the track. I've played around on Spa Historic with the FX and WOW!! That's a crazy combination.

    Didn’t Ferrari test a screen with Vettel, and he said the warping made him feel sick or something? Rain without a wiper would be a problem as well. I’ll always be against Halo but what it really comes down to is the racing. If we have a 2010 like season in terms of competition then people will find it easier to stomach

    • @DeathBringer769
      @DeathBringer769 Před 6 lety +6

      From another comment above:
      "The IndyCar aeroscreen has a fixed angle, the one tested by Vettel had a continual curve - that's what caused the refraction. PPG who are manufacturing it also manufacture F16 canopies, so it should overcome those difficulties. "
      So no, it's a different screen that shouldn't have those issues. Fighter pilots don't complain about their windscreen making them sick, and it's coming from the same place basically, lol.

    • @CiverBeats
      @CiverBeats Před 6 lety +1

    • @MrSnakedHD
      @MrSnakedHD Před 6 lety +1

      Deathbrewer jet canopies are bigger and also you have to take in consideration that the fighter pilots are looking at things that are much further, meaning the come much slower, reducing the dizziness and nausea experienced.

      "rain without a wiper"
      Now I'm not exactly a militant halo hater, but you realise that ALL drivers have visors two inches in front of their eyes at all times don't you? If rain isn't a problem now it wouldn't be with the Aeroscreen

    • @mendokusai9425
      @mendokusai9425 Před 6 lety

      lilHamster97 Yes but they also have tear offs. The dirt, rain etc is hitting the visor, which they can remove. Can't do that on the fly with the screen, which would pick up the same if introduced. They're clever people though so I presume they'll find a way around it.

      sameer mohideen because they add nothing to the sport. Instead kids who look up to these drivers now have a chance to live out a dream. I don't need a scantily clad lady to tell me that Ricciardo is in car #3. Those ladies will be fine, most are models who have many gigs and that's just one.
      Do you want to tell me why we need them or where "time could be better spent"?

    • @sameermohideen4913
      @sameermohideen4913 Před 6 lety +8

      metalmike04 F1 is supposed to be the Pinnacle of Engineering, with the best of the best drivers and one of the most glamorous sports on the planet. Taking the girls away takes some of the glamour away. The Halo was an inevitable decision so it’s fine. But this was just another way for girls to get into modelling. Becoming a model isn’t easy and many girls have gotten into it by being promotional girls. So we have essentially just banned the girls right to choose whether they want to be a grid girl or not. Nothing else has been done by removing grid girls. Grid kids are a grey area.
      Maybe you don’t know about the extremely competitive nature of the modelling industry. Sometimes these girls need all the jobs they can get in order to make things work and get more jobs. All we have done is taken another way for them to legitimately earn money away from them
