Correction: In April 2015, new national speed limits came into force for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) over 7.5 tonnes on single carriageway and dual carriageway roads in England and Wales. The new limits are: 50 mph (up from 40 mph) on single carriageway roads. 60 mph (up from 50 mph) on dual carriageway roads. The speed limits did not increase in Scotland and are still 40mph and 50mph respectively.

I normally drive between 5 and 10 mph within the speed limit. Depends on the situation. Currently learning. On my 10th lesson now and today's the second time I've been on the main road. Still lots more to learn. Instructor has helped me take it at my own speed.

Thanks for that rural roads video and I'm sure it would have clarified what speeds are appropriate to the road and the road conditions. Do you ever use the term 'limit point of vision' relating to bend severity ? It can be helpful in assessing the distance needed stop safely on your own side of the road. e.g. Keeping to the left for right hand bends and towards the right for left hand bends.

    • @ConquerDriving

So many new drivers do that, try to let your instructor guide you, you will feel like you will hit the oncoming cars but they are further away than they seem. Let your instructor show you where to position the car, maybe even guide the wheel for a bit and your brain will start to adapt it's judgement.

leave in gear, brake until the engine drops to around 1200rpm, put the clutch in and then brake smoothly the last bit, and ease off the brake at about 1mph so it's smooth.
If you are going to be sat there a while, handbrake up, neutral and then clutch up.. but this is not necessary, only if your left leg aches :P
