Kanami is the greatest rock music composer on the planet. And she's super cute too.

  • @jeffedwards9180
    @jeffedwards9180 Před měsícem +12

Kanami's PRS guitar, there are 10 different birds along the fretboard. Peregrine Falcon, Marsh Hawk, Ruby Throated Hummingbird, Common Tern, Coopers Hawk, Kite, Sparrow landing, Storm Petrel, Hawk landing, and a Screech Owl on a branch. The Screech Owl is on the 24-fret models only. The originator, Paul Reed Smith, uses the birds in memoriam to his mother who was an avid birdwatcher. Now just recently, November of 2023, Miku (red rose) debuted her second signature model with Zemaitis at the Yokohama Arena 10th Anniversary show with a guitar that has pigeons/doves on its fretboard. It's funny, Miku's 1st signature model is called the "Flappy Pigeon" where you think that that one would have the birds on the fretboard. Though it has 1 pigeon engraved on the pick guard and the pick guard itself is in the shape of a pigeon.

@@stevehall5128 Yea, I thought it was the same bird, but in just different poses. not 9 or 10 different ones. The article where I got the info from, says it was while he was building a guitar for Peter Frampton that he first used the birds.

  • @Davey-Boyd

The birds on a PRS guitar starting from the nut are:
    Peregrine falcon
    Marsh Hawk
    Ruby Throated Hummingbird
    Common Tern
    Coopers Hawk
    Kite
    Sparrow Landing
    Storm Petrel
    Hawk Landing
Screech Owl On A Branch (24-fret models only)
No pigeon! But Miku's new signature Zemaitis guitar does have pigeons on the fretboard. They have birds on PRS guitars because they are a tribute to Paul Reed Smith's mum who was an avid birdwatcher.

Welcome Masters and Princesses to the best rock band on the planet. These beautiful ladies are in their early 30s now and have been rocking for 10 years with plenty of Solo work from Misa (bass) and Kanami (lead). Drum fills and solos from Akane are killer. The great thing is they always look so happy.
Thrill the track that blew them up on the world stage, after a slow start it suddenly went viral outside of Japan after being shown on Facebook (the label was about drop them when this happened in 2015), Domination, Dice, Freedom, Onset, From now on, Without Holding Back, Hate? Are all great tracks and they have an extensive back catalogue (130+ tracks).
    The 5 Band-Maid members:
SAIKI Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. The youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions.
MIKU Kobato (Me-Ku), "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals and lyricist. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR Spokes Pigeon. I believe she couldn’t play very well when she formed the band and was tutored by Kanami.
KANAMI Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want is more!
AKANE Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa), "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!
Their Battle Gear as they call it with slight variations are standard French maid outfits for Akane, Miku and Kanami, MISA ditched the French maid outfit early on she started to wear a Chinese inspired maid outfit - in black of course. It's partly how MISA got her nickname 'The Barefoot Assassin'. Well, she always plays barefoot, and Miku joked her outfit was an “assassin maid”. Saiki's outfit is Spanish inspired. Any Maids track always ROCKS as they come for your soul.

Many of us saw Band-Maid play “From Now On” live. OMNG! Kanami riffed her ass off. The DB’s matched the BPM’s! So FROM NOW ON, Band-Maid will grow in popularity even faster as their awesome, sold out 10TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR wrapped up at Japan’s 17,000 seat Yokohama Arena on Nov. 26 and at Hong Kong. AND they’re writing and recording for their new album!
The Maids are one of the hardest working supergroups in the business! Their music, their sound, each of the Maids... and the love that permeates their live events is an experience not to be missed. Hope you can catch them LIVE!
    Thx, Luke!

Akane is supplied by Tamu, Kanami by PRS guitars, Miku by Zemaitis guitars (including her signature model), MISA by Black Smoker (who just released her signature model) and even Saiki by some big microphone company. There are some YT videos of Miku touring the Zemaitis factory, Kanami trying out some top of the range PRS's as part of their 35th anniversary and also testing a load of pedals. Nice to hear Akane's supreme drum skills being analysed and appreciated - Jimmy Page was impressed enough to ask her for a selfie backstage and that was back in 2016. She is also the happiest drummer on Earth, always smiling and laughing while slamming out note perfect Rock drumming.

Glad you enjoyed this song. Akane never seems to get tired, even performing a 3+ hour concert without missing a beat. At concerts, Miku often introduces Akane as half-human, half-gorilla or just a gorilla. Kanami pushed her to 220bpm in the song BLACK HOLE and she pulled it off. Besides playing this song they also wrote it including the string sections. When they did the song "Sense", the anime studio wanted an orchestral beginning, so Kanami started learning classical composition to write it, and now she can throw in these little orchestral parts when she wants.

I’ve heard that Akane likes the smaller kit and horizontal cymbals because it lets her more easily interact with the other members and also see the audience. Though they are playing larger and larger venues I feel like they are really a club band at heart and thrive on that up close and personal relationship.

    • @stevehall5128
      @stevehall5128 Před měsícem +3

Akane said in an interview that she doesn't really know exactly how to play a song until they do it for an audience. Which sounds weird knowing that all their parts are carefully worked out in advance; I assume she's talking about pushing or dragging the beat and the intangible magic stuff they're all good at.

On Kanami, the Lead Guitarists, PRS guitar fretboard there are the following birds.
Starting from the nut the birds are:
    Peregrine falcon
    Marsh Hawk
    Ruby Throated Hummingbird
    Common Tern
    Coopers Hawk

    Hawk Landing
Screech Owl On A Branch (24-fret models only)
This is taken from the PRS (Paul Reed Smith) guitars website.
On Akane's drum kit, she has played either a 4 piece or a 5 piece drum kit from most of her career. She has used electronic triggers and drums a few times in the past, however she keeps coming back to her basic 5 piece kit with 5-7 cymbals. She will add or remove an X-hat or a Splash depending on the setlist. She has also said that she didn't like a large kit as it separates her from her bandmates and the audience, and she loses the interaction.

Good insight into Akane's drum skills and timing. Also, Kanami's guitar is a PRS (Paul Reed Smith) guitar that is famous for it bird inlays on the fretboard. The person who has a pigeon on her guitar is Miku, the rhythm guitarist. The guitar she is playing is a Zemeitas. She is an official spokesperson for Zemeitas and they designed a custom guitar for her called the "Flappy Pigeon" The pigeon is engraved on the silver faceplate of the guitar. It was an expensive limited edition that sold out almost immediately on release. One of my favorite songs by Band-Maid is "Moratorium", there are several official live version of the song on the internet. I believe one of the best is from a performance at the Zepp Tokyo Arena. "Moratorium" is almost universally one of the favorite songs of any Maidiac.

What a great composition guitarist KANAMI. I can’t think of any other Rock instrumental that carries on this long without becoming boring. It takes you through an emotional arc as capably as any song, with her incredible guitar lines connecting with the heart as effectively as a vocal.
AKANE’s drumming is brutal, but incredibly precise. She plays with great deftness and, dare I say, a light touch. Her footwork displays a similar deftness and precision.

The lack of fade outs and Akane’s smaller kit are both products of the fact that they’re a live band first and foremost.
I love Akane’s drumming, and I think part of it is because of her smaller kit. She has to be creative to do more with less, so she’s always interesting to focus in on. It’s ruined a lot of other music for me, because the drums are so boring in comparison.

This does fit her personality (and besides 'Hengao' would be difficult with a big kit)
