When I saw the title I was thinking this was a Peter Sellers movie. Instead we have Donald Sutherland. God rest your soul Mr. Sutherland, and thank you for the great movies through the years.
When Sutherland was supposed to be funny, you laughed until your sides hurt. When he was dramatic, you sat on the edge of your seat or used a whole box of kleenex. When he was supposed to be scary, you slept with your lights on. INCREDIBLE actor!

I’m loving this movie. It’s great. It’s funny. Kind of reminiscent of the pink Panther type movies. Now the end was a bit of a surprise. Thank you so much for sharing this movie. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
I had never heard of this one…great cast, quite amusing.
This film came out in 1987 but Ruth Gordon died in 1985 aged 89) - so this movie took a very long time to reach the theatres.
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !"
Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ."
Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"
Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..."
Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."
Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"

Not really my kind of movie, but the second I saw Donald Sutherland's name I was hooked.
Sweet movie with great character actors.
I really liked this film but for odd reasons such as the scenery, the clothes they are wearing, the hotel and the roller skate place. The plot was fine too. The Hispanic looking guy with the long black hair and the thing he was wearing was so odd that it made sense he could blend in. And the Russian spies in their black leather coats standing in full view are funny when you think about it. They are not in Eastern Europe, but in Ibiza. Anyone can be a spy.

Donald Sutherland was investigated by the CIA for his anti-war activities. The world was in an upheaval in the 70s. The 80s and 90s were just a lovely respite from the garbage. But in general, there is always political nonsense of some kind going on.

In Ibiza in early 1960s there were NO drugs.
The film dates back to the 80s, and there were drugs, since the late 60s at least. Ask Nico. She was there and did drugs, sadly she is not with us anymore.
I like Donald Sutherland, in most Movies. However, in this one he seemed a little Creepy..

Made in 1987. 3 years after thé Russians nearly pressed the nuclear button. Authorisation had been given. Just one man refused to do it. The Falklands war was just over 5 years previous and we were 4 years off yet another recession and the council tax. Brixton riots. Everything was just hunky dory.
