    I just finished up my 5.3 swap in my 98 s10. It’s a night and day difference from a 4 banger to a v8. Very happy with mine. Daily driver. It’s not a hellcat, but it goes quick. Way better than before. I’ve got about 5k in mine. Low mile engine and upgraded 4l60. Stainless shorty headers and 2 1/2 full stainless true duals with a stainless borla muffler. Current performance motor mounts, custom harness and computer program with the downstream o2 delete, evap delete, and security disabled. Everything in the truck and gauges work like factory. Ac works. I put a cluster from a 99 blazer to get a tach. Steering column with shifter from an 02 s10 auto 4cyl. Patched the floor where the shifter used to be. New carpet and newer seats. Entropy radiator and electric fan combo. Shortened driveshaft. 3.42 rear end. New rims and 255/60/15 cooper cobras. Smoked head and taillights. About 5 months of fabricating and working on it for a few hours after work almost every day. Thinking about putting one of those stage 1 drop in cams in and having it tuned. I’ll really need a posi then. Kinda hard to find a 3.42 posi in Florida I love it though. It’s everything I always wanted it to be.

Why is it so damn hard to find weight specs of cars and trucks that aren't complete trash?

I'm currently running a much more aggressive LQ9 with working a/c here in Texas using the Superior radiator and their fans. I can tell right now the fans won't be able to keep up with the a/c on once full swing summer gets here. Considering going to the Intrepid fans and curious about the success you're having. The differences are internal, the v8 4l60e’s have a stronger input shaft and more clutches, also if your taking one apart it’s very highly recommended you throw a heavy duty sun shell in. You will thank me later, also I’m not really sure but I think the v6’s had a higher stall converter too

    I’m doing the exact build can you tell me how you did the wiring?

    • @CliffsHowTo
      @CliffsHowTo Před 4 lety +2

      So. There’s a reason I’ve not done too much video on the wiring harness. It’s because how the wiring is done is very, very dependent on the year of the motor, year of the computer, and year of the car it’s going into.
      The wiring varies quite a bit from year to year for each parameter. Also, it varies depending on your setup: drive by cable, drive by wire, how many o2 sensors, transmission type, etc.
      That being said, lt1swap.com is where I got most of my information. That site has tons of info on each year, and has instructions to go from drive by wire to drive by cable.
      The harness is a pain, and takes a lot of time. If you can afford to buy one already done, I would!

  • @charlesgilmore5089
    @charlesgilmore5089 Před 8 měsíci

    • @CliffsHowTo
      @CliffsHowTo Před 8 měsíci

      I’m not sure what you mean about the rev limiter… I don’t even have a tach on this thing!
      And cam? I bought this engine for $350 on Craigslist. The guy told me it was stock, and said he owned the tahoe it came from, since new. I didn’t add a cam, so as far as I know, it’s all stock. The here are headers on it, in full disclosure.

    • @charlesgilmore5089
      @charlesgilmore5089 Před 8 měsíci

      @CliffsHowTo a "rev" limiter keeps you from going above a certain "revolution" (rpm). When you pull up to the line, in this video, you can clearly hear the lope of your cam...it's choppy. If the guy that sold it to you said it was "stock", then he didn't know either. I have a mild build 5.7 votec 1983 S10. Yours has a similar sound to mine.

      @charlesgilmore5089 Před 8 měsíci

      @CliffsHowTo okay...I watched your other vids on the build. It all looked "stock" as you said. Maybe when they tuned your engine they tweaked on the timing to get that little lope I'm hearing. Good build and good luck. You did a great job and spent a lot of time on the project.

      After only adding traction bars, this truck runs 14.2, which is 1.1 seconds slower than my 2005 corvette.
      I wouldn’t call that slow. It’s not a drag monster, but it is fun to drive. Much more fun to drive than the 4 cylinder that was in there!
      I think my swap was worth it. I spent just over $4,000 total I think.
      I’ll continue to spend more, as I do more to the truck, but that’s what the swap itself cost me.
