      It’s insane how big of a difference good audio makes! Even decent audio!

      Every CZcams video that has an audible "click" through a scene change. Is it that hard to blend the audio tracks?

  • @LearnEnglishwithBobtheCanadian

    Wise words! If you're new at this CZcams thing, I recommend thinking about this one thought ( 7:39 ) from Becki, "Going back and watching
    your videos with a critical eye but not so critical that it will deter you from posting and creating more videos that is the key it's not being too critical so you get yourself down but being critical enough that you can improve upon what you've done and you know fix things on the next video." 😎 This is the key to success.

    The good part of voice over is that it is respectful of a viewer’s time. In addition, over the past year, we have had our fill of talking heads who say little of importance, nothing of depth, and are too interested in expressing their feelings. You do fine, by the way.

    "The key is starting" LOVE that so much! I let my insecurities about being on camera prevent me from creating videos for 2 years....2 years, seriously! I never shot anything with me in it, photographs, videos, nothing. I was more comfortable behind the camera. But last December I just decided to just take the plunge and hit record. Best decision I made as I have learned so much in only 12 months. This is such a fantastic video with so many useful tips. Thanks so much, Becki for helping us learn by critiquing your own work. ❤️

    The snapchat/instagram stories tip is so good! I used to be obsessed with snapchat in high school and would be constantly posting stories of recaps of the school day or criticizing homework assignments , and now with my college work being online I'm getting good marks on my video presentation assignments compared to some classmates because my professor finds them "more bearable" to watch because I make eye-contact and get to the point faster. Just thinking about the camera as talking to a friend makes recording so much easier.
    And another tip for beginners; add a ring around the camera lens with some bright colored washi tape to capture your attention and make sure you're not looking off to the screen the entire time!

    You may feel uncomfortable in front of the camera but remember the camera likes you. No matter what you wear changes in make up , glasses , hair style and color you look like a natural. It's very hard to do what your goal is with that style on video way too many variables. Chris is a natural and the 2 of you make some really good videos . I enjoy watching the channel.

    As someone who plans to do more videos next year, this was very timely and relatable. I tried doing daily vlogs using my phone (didn't post it and barely re-watched it) but it was more of to get more comfortable to talk in front of a camera. I constantly look around while filming as I'm anxious about other people seeing me but I understand it's going to be a process and just need to keep doing it so it becomes more natural. Thanks for this great video!

    Ok first of all you spoke into my soul with the color grading comment. I just spent hours trying to repair a light shift in a scene that I didn’t even notice happened at the time.
    And second the authenticity thing is so hard to nail. My first videos were so “professional “ read b-o-r-i-n-g. I was so afraid to have an extra moments, even if they were funny. Zero personality. It’s getting better but it takes a lot of work to sort out what you sound like on camera vs how you’re trying to come across. A lot of my stuff was coming across mean instead of funny - which was how it was intended. Can confirm that filming yourself and watching it back is the only way you can sort all that stuff out.

    Lol well firstly give young Becki some credit, the video wasn’t THAT bad at all! I love the little animations you did! I can relate to doing voiceovers, I wish I could do them but they just sound blah. I’m way more expressive and my voice overs just sound super dull. I love the tip about Instagram stories because MY GOD YOU ARE SO RIGHT. I’m used to how I talk now but at first I was like ‘wtf is this face, why does my mouth move like that’ 😂 and although a story is most certainly important, I also think it’s ok to not always have a story, especially in the beginning. Just get used to your camera, being in front of the camera and if there’s no story, who cares, we’ll try again next time. Just keep practicing your skills, any video related skills, and you’ll improve every time.
    You’ve improved A LOT so thanks to young becki for pushing through the awkwardness and spasms 😂 I think you should re-edit an old vlog as a part 2 of this video, that would be really fun to watch! K bye ❤️

    • @BeckiandChris
      @BeckiandChris  Před 3 lety +1

      Yessss it’s so key especially when you don’t know what to make, to just document and make something even if there’s no story. Did that for the full year in Vancouver and had a blast doing it!

  • @cwTheDrummist
    @cwTheDrummist Před 3 lety

    This was very helpful! For me, I notice that I talk too fast when I'm in public because I want to get the filming over with (embarrassed). I also blink a lot. I look away when I'm trying to think of words. But after watching myself on camera, I realized that I do that without the camera. 😬For me, the key takeaways are to create, critic yourself productively, post anyway, learn, repeat. That is hard for a perfectionist like me.

    Loved this video, Becki! It was really helpful. We've had our CZcams channel for 5 years but I (Becca) only started to regularly appear in videos in March. I knew going in that I would have to "amp up" the personality on camera but *wow*, maybe multiply that by 10? I'm FINE, but even when you think you're talking enthusiastically it does not come off that way on camera. So I love that you mentioned that and it's something I continue to hone in on, and of course, some videos are better than others. I'm used to my voice and watching myself at this point, but another thing I appreciated you pointing out is how your face looks while you're talking. I've noticed lately that I move my jaw around when I emphasize some words and I really don't like that 😂 I think it might be from not opening my mouth wide enough (maybe a nervous thing) so I definitely want to work on that and let my personality SHINE!

I'm more comfortable on camera now. I started out using my iPad for about a year and moved to a Canon M50. I didn't sound like myself either. Now I want my sit down talks to look like the moody look like yours. I love it, I wouldn't want every video to look this way, but I really want to try it a few times to show new skills. Wow I thought you made this video for me! Lol! Uncomfortable in front of camera hell ya! This gives me some good things to try! You and Chris are amazing always fun to watch! My wife is also from the East Coast from Sainte Ann de Medawaska, so always good to see your vids from that area! Thanks for your advice! Stay Safe!

    Your commentary is priceless. It’s 80% roasting yourself with lowkey props for story and b-roll 😂😂👏🏻👌🏻

    I've been thinking about starting a vlog and these are some of my fears and concerns that I've been dealing with. Thank you for showing me that I can be myself and just do it.
