- Mercedes Benz 500k Cabriolet test drive. Test drive for first time in a few years. First, second and reverse are non-synchro so you can see the double clutching to get it in gear. The whine you hear on the straight away is the blower.
Our European friends enjoy pointing out the inadequacies of American drivers of non-American cars. There are a couple of good points below. You really need to let the car get warm, including the transmission. Double clutching is a good idea. But you also need to shift much earlier than you think you would. First to second at 5mph, second to third at 15mph, etc.
Were you double-clutching in your first to second gear upshift? It sounded slightly mismatched as you engaged the transmission back to the engine on what I reasonably assume is a non-synchromesh transmission.
The era of mercedes that many unfortunately overlook or don't recognise, truly a special charm to see these marvellous pieces of engineering floating down the road
I am 19 but I would love to drive this car ! Should be quite cozy and comfy inside! And gorgeous sounding ! With an incredible driving experience! I would cry after driving something like this ! Someone should make cars like these ,just like how royal Enfield is still making 1940s bikes !

The guy doesn’t know how to drive a car with a ‘Manual Transmission’ like somebody has already said he doesn’t deserve to own or drive this gorgeous beauty.
The car is from a different era it's not a Rolls Royce it's noisy as hell with not even an iota of refinement. The gearbox were just as primitive as in those days. It's like comparing 286 with you latest phones. It needed lot of muscle power to operate this car.

watching this caused me physical pain! one minute trying to start, one minute watching it sit and do nothing while not remotely warming up, a few seconds of idling down the road almost into oncoming traffic, please sell this to someone with a decent garage without a dirt driveway, also the clock is inop

What a faith for one of the nicest cars in the world. Ending up in a country where no one knows how to use a gearshift. Poor car! I own the original sales folder for this car in mint condition, that’s the first step I hope to get the car to match up the folder in the future. 😂

Last car I hd with a manual was a close ratio box with straight cut gears. It took me a very long time to shift smoothly. And I am the best driver in the world.

Sehe ich auch so. Vermutlich hat der Fahrer den Mercedes Benz 500k mit einem Picup verwechselt! Der Hubraum mag ja identisch sein, aber das war auch schon alles. Den Motor sollte man erst einmal warm laufen lassen. Schalten war auch nicht so seine Stärke. Man schaltet mit Gefühl und gibt dem Getriebe auch die nötige Zeit. Er fährt wohl nur Automatik.
Das Automobil ist natürlich ein Traum!!!

Der Wagen ist wunderschön, aber, ich bin so frei, dieser Fahrer ist für den Wagen eine Zumutung. Damals gab es so schöne, aber auch so unpraktische Autos. Ich habe viele davon genießen dürfen. Jetzt fahre ich einen 230/ CDI 270 und muß aber einsehen, daß man da nichts mehr vergleichen kann. Verbrauch, Leichtgewicht, Leistung, Straßenlage, und Bequemlichkeit eines modernen Mercedeswagens ergeben eine andere Ebene, die Welten höher steht. Schön war es ja, aber sehr unbequem.
Logisch kann ein über 80 Jahre altes Auto nicht mit den Fahr- und Komforteigenschaften heutiger Autos mithalten.
Aber wer würde die vermissen wenn er in einem Mercedes 500k aus den dreißigern sitzt?
Nebenbei bemerkt, ich habe einen Saab 9000 von 1991, der aktuelle Audi Q3 meines Schwiegervaters kann mit dessen Sitzkomfort nicht mithalten, in keinster Weise.
@@seitenwind7940 Es stimmt, daß man, in den alten großen Wagen früher mehr Platz hatte, aber die "Neuen" sind körpergerechter, wenn man mal erst drinnensitzt. Klar muß man sich, beim Einsteigen, zusammenfalten, das war früher nicht nötig, aber die Sitze sind viel körperangepasster und stabilisieren den Sitzenden gegen alle Fliehkräfte. Ich hatte mir meine Lendenwirbelsäule eingebrochen und saß dann am bequemsten und schmerzfrei nur in dem beschriebenen Mercedes 203. am Fahrersitz. Und auch ein Nachbar, mit demselben Problem sagte mir dasselbe. Ich hatte immer von einem ADR Bergmeister geträumt. Ein wunderschöner, schwerer Sportwagen mit maximaler Geländegängigkeit (damals). Bin mit Ihm zwar gefahren, aber konnte Keinen erwerben. Wenn ich zurückdenke : Schwer zu lenken, man ermüdete dabei richtig, Verbrauch war 24-26 Lt. Sprit/100 Km. Max Geschw. 160 Kmh. 120 Ps. , damals ein Spitzenwagen, heute ein total überholter Ichtyosaurier.
Mein Bugatti war ein Grand Prix Rennwagen. Ich fuhr als Schnellster, mal bei einem Stadtkurs, auf der Geraden 161 Kmh. . Mein W203 riegelt erst bei 230 Kmh. ab, und er könnte da noch schneller fahren, und Beschleunigung ? Mir kommt vor, nicht viel Unterschied zum Bugatti, wenn man ihn "aufreisst". Dabei ist das ein Dieselmotor mit 170 Ps. und 4.5 bis 6 Lt. Verbrauch. Da liegen doch schon Welten dazwischen ? Lenkung? Ein Finger genügte dafür. Schaltung? 6 Gänge alle vollsynchronisiert, früher brachte man ohne Zwischengas oft den Gang nicht rein. Nützt nichts, ist eine andere Ebene, das muß man erkennen und auch zugeben.

Kabrio; 1 DKW Reichsklasse; 1 Fiat 1100, Mercedes: 1 OM128 Pullmann(1.DieselPkw.), 1/2,3 Pullmann, 1/ 190, 2/220 W115 D/8, Limousinen, 1/203/270 CDI Limo, Stufenheck, (als derzeitigen, wahrscheinlich Letzten). Als Rennwagen : 2 Bugattis: 1/1,1/2 Lt, Brescia und 1/ 2 Lt. 43A, sowie einen BNC Lavolois als Bahnwagen. Halt ne ganz schöne Menge. War eine schöne Zeit und kommt nie wieder. Die sch... EU bringt mit der Klimahetze die ganzen Autos um !! Bin froh schon so alt zu sein, aber ich konnte die schönen Autos noch genießen. Apropos, einen Kleinwagen mit 350 ccm Vellies Motor habe ich selbst konstruiert und gebaut. Auch mal etliche "Muskelautos" also Pedalwagen mit Hilfsmotor. Jetzt, mit 93 wird langsam Schluß mit dem Vergnügen, leider.
@@seitenwind7940 Nachtrag, habe noch ein paar vergessen, 1/Austin A 40(glaube ich), 1/ Vauxhall Victor, 1/ Ford Zodiac, aber das sind jetzt alle. Den Zodiac und einen 220/D8 hatte ich meiner Frau gekauft. Einen Steyr 50 (Baby) hatte schon meine Mutter in der Zwischenkriegszeit, sie liebte ihn, mein Vater hasste ihn, weil er ihm zu klein und daher unbequem war. Wir fuhren nur einmal mit ihm auf Urlaub, dann nur mehr mit der Bahn, allein schon wegen dem Speisewagen. Das waren noch schöne Zeiten. Dann kam der Krieg und auch das Baby musste einrücken. Ich war dann das "letzte Aufgebot" als Jagdflieger und hatte 1946 schon wieder ein Auto, den Steyr Super (Steyr 120) als wunderschönes Kabrio, silber mit blauer Lederpolsterung, genau so wie jetzt mein 203er Mercl., nur ist der halt eine Limousine.

US delivery car with original invoice, Mercedes build sheet and every owner from new. So NO, not stolen at any point.
This can't be a real 500k! There are just about 5 in existence and they sell for over a million dollars. No one will keep a million dollars car in a garage like that! Also the back on the original doesn't look like a hatchback, but it's almost a straight line. This looks like incorporating a rear engine like the VW Beetle.
