Thanks for your notes Alonso! Sounds like Patel poured body and soul into this---didn't he get injured a couple of times during filming? Good on him! Cheers!
Let us know if you see it, Marty!
oh my, I miss the days when they used Celery to make the sound effects of bones cracking. Btw, squishing it's a bucket with Jello.
Glad that even without Christy, Alonso stepped up and did the out of theater reaction. Was waiting for a breakfast all day stamp of approval before I saw it this weekend. Appreciate you and the channel.
It's almost at 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, looks very good!
Good for dev!
Glad that Dev knocked it out of the park!
I loved it. Such a great debut for Dev as an action director. Lots of other stuff thematically that was handled well too, as Alonso said.
man the amount of sheer work Dev put into this thing, glad it has paid dividends
Ok, now looking forward to seeing it
Love the sweater. Personally, patiently waiting for the First Omen review :-)
Yep, knew it was gonna be good... Watchin' it this weekend...!
Man, can't wait to watch it!
Thanks for the reaction Alonso.
Just got out of seeing this movie, a supremely confident directorial debut from Patel & equally impressive action turn on screen. Thanks to the movie taking it's time, the revenge when served is bloody brutal and bloody satisfying. Monkey Man 2 anyone?...
Can't wait to see it!
Excited for this one!
Great review!! Alonso. Thank you!!!♥️
Looks and sounds awesome, can't wait for the full review!
It's definitely on my 'must watch in a theater' list!
Nice review!
No full review?
The Grove! Def going to see this
The fanciest mall multiplex :)
I enjoyed it a lot. I will say there was too much shaky cam though…
I saw this last night and was somewhat disappointed. The energy and intentions are great, but it felt very "over directed," if that's a thing, and the character's journey and motivations were in turns too simplistic and too convoluted, depending on the needs of any given sequence. John Wick movies benefit from being hyperstylized and taking place completely within an amoral and apolitical bubble of assassin-on-assassin violence. This movie introduces morality and politics in ways that are very interesting but ultimately not compatible with the Wick-style action. Maybe that's just me. I think Patel has promise and I hope he keeps at it. I was very excited about this one and I'm sad that it let me down.
(By the way, when I say "politics" I mean actual politics, like with politicians. I'm not one of those dudes who says "politics" when I mean "representation." This movie has fascinating and unexpected trans representation which I loved.)
Agree with this. I felt the character’s journey and motivations were too vague for the first half of the movie. It wasn’t clear why he was seeking vengeance, against whom and how all the players were connected. It isn’t until the third act what we understand what was driving him. Still it was a good movie for a first time director!
3 out of 5
There was a decent movie hidden in all that Paul Greengrass on steroids cinematography and action. Not my jam, but kudos for doing it on a 10 million dollar budget.
Who the hell is saying that Christy and Alonzo complain too much about women having nothing to do in too many actions movies? My god, how can people think others wise? The history of actions films is women being there to be rescued or to prove the main male character isn't gay. I mean, it's not even subtle. Anybody pretending otherwise is just straight up gaslighting.
Huzzah! Really looking forward to seeing this.
Oh, and cue the inevitable “John Woke” complaints from the usual smooth-brained denizens of the internet.
So...not my shakey cam.
Where is Civil War review?
We're seeing it Monday night and reviewing Tuesday, thanks for asking.
@@BreakfastAllDay Can't wait! Got my ticket for next week as well, and just binged Devs, seeing a lot of actor overlap
I surprised myself for saying this…the First Omen is a better movie than Monkey Man. Not a horror guy, but the First Omen is more flushed out.
You had me at extremely stylish and extremely violent. Frankly, i think that the fashion style BoHo Chic gets way too much attention, compared to Stylish and Violent Chic.
