    SSP are definitely heavily influenced by the Smashing Pumpkins, who were influenced by the Pixies, who also inspired Nirvana's sound.
    Other post punk / new wave / alt bands worth a listen are: Sisters of Mercy, The Cult, Jane's Addiction, The Cure, REM (first 7 albums), U2 (first 4 albums), The Sound, Joy Division, New Order, Screaming Trees, Garbage, Happy Mondays, The Call, The Verve, The Alarm, The Replacements, The The, Talk Talk, ... it goes on for days. The late 70s to early 90s was an incredible era for music.

      And someone finally mentions the Screaming Trees ..(Smashing Pumpkins if everyone would agree on what genre they are would be the best imo) and it gives me chills..the actual best grunge band ever.this isnt to you kind Sir.. however if anyone else would like to bat that one back and forth...dont even make a squeak until you listen to their 5 listen straight through albums..with Clairvoyance and Dust nearly making it 7..Ill wait ..And thanks again for your post

    • @wordup897
      @wordup897 Před měsícem

      @@chrisross-fd3fo Right on. Lanegan's voice was phenomenal. I also like his solo work. Should also mention Tad here.
      Agreed on the Pumpkins. There's a 1988 recording called from the Pulse that's pretty fascinating - very goth / new wave and interesting to see how they rapidly evolved into whatever they were. This setlist was also played in the Cabaret Metro where they kicked off that the same year.
      People say "good music is still being made" which is true, but nothing has compared to these powerhouse bands that made several incredible ALBUMS over a span of 10-20 years.

      @chrisross-fd3fo Před měsícem

      @@wordup897 you know after the Trees he was homeless.. then got up dusted(lol) himself off and was a part of over 110 albums not including his solo..i have about 8-10 but those first 3 are absolute gems.. Mark is on my mt Rushmore of 90s singers with Cornell, Staley and Mike Farris (who may have the best voice of all of them)...Gary Lee Conner is the best creator of psychedelic riffs since that time and his overal soundscape fills the space of 2 guitars..Purple Outside is another unknown gift..Mark Pickerel could not be replaced and sound like theTrees ..However they couldnt have gotten a better creator ,more gifted drummer , than Barrett Martin..sounding completely different never worked out so well in Sweet Oblivion..pieple dont talk about either much but Pickerel was a third of Truly...and holy s...what an album Fast Stories from Kid Coma is..and hes a really in demand session player and the reason i picked it up 30yrs ago....Barrett well he seems like a Renaissance man.. Thanks for the reply..All it would take is one of their songs to catch the ear of the right person (and not their crappy former record company.)..and make Gary Lee a good chunk of change..which i really hope happens..p.s. I thought of Tad..but believe it or not.but i left rhem off cause it was starting to sound like i got all that out of wikipedia... while i wasnt stalkery back then i was a way over the top fan

    So glad to fond someone new reacting to my favor band! Chris is an amazing drummer and Nikki an amazing bassist, both of their talents are on full display in the song "Panic Switch", and same goes for "Simpatico" imo. Their break out hit was "Lazy Eye". You mention drinking, Silversun is a liquor/convience store they would frequent while working on music, hence the name. And singer Brian met bassist Nikki when he caught her stealing an adult beverage off the drink cart on the plane and the rest is history. Nikki was also the keyboardist in drummer Chris' band The Crooners, predating Silversun. And keyboardist Joe is, well just Joe. I don't really have a backstory to offer for him, other than he is a really good dude.

    There's lots from this album that are good. I'd check out Future Foe Scenarios. Or Panic Switch from their second album.

    Stumbled across your channel listening to Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven, love your intro splash screen motto, and a fan of Silversun Pickups. Would love to see you listen to Circadian Rhythm (Last Dance) and get your thoughts. Great channel, hitting subscribe for sure!

    People sleep on this band but they have some great records.

    I still like the Royal We by SSP.
