“Why you do this to me, Dimmy?” His heart froze. “Why you do this?” The priest could not move, did not breathe, did not dare to glance over to that sorrowful voice, did not dare see those eyes really there: eyes accusing, eyes lonely. His mother. His mother! “You leave me to be priest, Dimmy; and send me institution….” Don’t look! “Now you chase me away?…” It’s not her! “Why you do this?…” His head throbbing, heart in his throat, Karras shut his eyes tightly as the voice grew imploring, grew frightened, grew, tearful. “You always good boy, Dimmy. Please! I am ‘fraid! Please no chase me outside, Dimmy! Please!” … not my mother! “Outside nothing! Only dark, Dimmy! Lonely!” Now tearful. “You’re not my mother!” Karras vehemently whispered. “Dimmy. please!…” Except from "The Exorcist" novel! Brilliant writing! Both in the book and in the film!
Wake Me Up Inside The acting was amazing partly because of the director. He pushed the actors hard to get the performances he wanted. He was going for realism, and used some really odd techniques like randomly firing off a gun on set, he also slapped one actor in the face just before a scene. He did stuff like this to startle them and shake them up. This caused real anxiety to come out in the performances. I think it was a nerve-wracking movie to make for the actors. They had to keep Regan's bedroom at freezing temps to get the foggy breath effect, since this was before CGI. Blair said she was absolutely freezing because she was only wearing a nightgown. She and Ellen Burstyn also both suffered back injuries while filming scenes. This is my favorite movie and I appreciate how much the actors gave their all to create this classic!
Idc what anybody says. This movie is the best horror movie ever. An amazingly beautiful and horrifying talent went into this. No movie can or ever will come close to touching this movie.
Dude I agree. Ive watched hundreds of horror films and id still rate this one as the scariest. Well there was one, an indie film on netflix called " the eyes of my mother" that was so scary I turned it off.
The movie was gut wrenching. Reading the book is even worse. With the imagery of the movie in my head, there are passages in the book that chilled me to the bone. William Peter Blatty wrote a masterpiece of horror.

This is the most underrated scene in the whole movie, the clutches of the Pazuzu were wringing at Damien’s soul and spirit to carry on, this wasn’t the most vile thing the demon did in the movie but perhaps the most soul destroying thing he did, he manipulated Damien into feeling neglectful and a bad son to his ill mother. Very evil and very sad to see Damien a wreck, incredible movie 🙌
I had a guy "name" me as Pazuzu in Zanzibar once. I had a goatee beard (no mo) at the time. They can be very superstitious there. In the early 2000s people in the old Stone town slept outside their houses in fear of vampires. True!
A brutal horror , that is harrowing but totally captivating and mesmerizing at the same time,.....a classic horror that stands head and shoulders above anything else in the genre....a timeless masterpiece
Best movie ever...should of won Oscars for all the actors they were brilliant, especially Linda. Best Picture, best sound, screenplay....it didn't get the respect it deserved
From the darkest deepest scariest depths of genius writer William blattys imagination came the masterpiece The Exorcist, a frightening repulsive story of a demonic possession of a young girl. A story to shock, and unsettle, and leave your emotions raw and your soul bruised. Classically written, then adapted into a cinematic Horror Masterpiece .
Favorite movie of all time.. Linda Blair is not given enough credit for her performance in this movie..she was 13 yrs old for CSake!!!..she should of won award for what she was made to do...you won't see that happen again in movies..all the actors were outstanding in this movie..if they were B actors it would of fallen flat and been silly but all of them made this very believable
