Totally agree with you. Im originally from CT but now that I have lived here in Dallas for 25 years now, most of the ladies do act like Laura Bush. I also have had the privilidge of meeting Laura Bush and she was, in "Southern Lady" speak....simply lovely.

Despite your political party, it is obvious that Laura Bush is a typical Southern LADY - classy, reserved, polite, yet in no way unfriendly. Its the way almost all women around myself here in Texas are, especially once the children are older and grown and they don't have to be all messy and child-proof. She has stated that she is supportive of gay rights, and her behavior has nothing to do with that - its just the way she was raised and lives her life.
And by the way, she ran a stop sign. Who hasn't at some point or another? That doesn't make it alright, but at least she wasn't driving drunk. You need to put things in perspective. Her mistakes as a teenager probably helped her become the strong, classy lady she is today.

That doesn't make them any less worthy of dignity and respect though. Laura made a bad decision that had awful repercussions, but that doesn't mean we need to constantly hold it over her head after she had to suffer the loss of her FRIEND. That guilt never leaves you - even decades later. Why should she be expected to talk about something from decades ago?

I think Laura Bush was very amicable and considering that she was still the first lady, was pleasantly warm on the show. It almost appeared as if she was left out of the conversation . . . I don't know . . . just my opinion ~ At 1st glance Ellen was the one that was distant with her. With Laura, I think there is a decorum that after 8 years, is hard to shed. Jenna blew me away. I like the little "can we use it for our wedding?" line she slipped in. I don't know how she stomached this, frankly.
