  • As human beings we're pretty good at self organising our movement according to task. Walking as an example is as basic as it gets, we're essentially falling forwards and catching ourselves over and again without having to make a conscious effort to do so.
Golf is of course a much more complex motor pattern as a whole but this doesn't mean we can't use some self organising principles to improve.
In this video James will introduce the concept of using external intents to make gains around the green...

I loved this video I would have liked to see how the ball landed and how it rolled out. Maybe a video for the future?

Excellent James. I’ve learned more about the short game in 6 months of your channel than I did in 30 years before my break.

@@JamesRidyardGolf would echo this. Not quite 30 years... more like 6 for me, but ditto. Amazing content and info and has definitely improved my scoring almost immediately.

makes a lot of sense. i played a lot of ice hockey and baseball when i was young and all we thought about was hitting the puck or ball and in what direction and not about body movement although it did move to allow the action.

Especially the last few minutes practicing and learning the four different types of strikes. 👍👍

Would love to see you doing a video on techniques chipping to (raised greens) -landing the ball softly on landing zones and also running it out to back pin location's .

Really good video. More external focus like that especially on the course will really help a lot of people. Great way to make practice more fun and intuitive

Outstanding presentation of how focusing on intent can free us up from the burden of technical thoughts when we play. The best players in the world use it and we should as well. I really enjoyed your explanation of the various ways we can employ this useful concept. Excellent channel James. Thank you for sharing it with us. Cheers!

Thanks Garry. So easy to get trapped in the technical side that we can easily overlook what's really happening with the best performers. Appreciate your kind words!

Any chance you might do a video around the 50-80 yard wedge shots, flighting them in low, medium & high?

Absolutely, I actually filmed a very short one on this a few weeks ago but it might be too basic!

This is excellent James thank you! Really enjoying your content and have been recommending it to anyone and everyone!
I have 2 video suggestions for you; a system for controlling carry distance inside 50 yards, How to read lies and the impact on contact, launch and spin.
    They would be very insightful!

Can't wait to try this. I bought your series and when practicing have enough shots. But in the course technical thoughts ruin me. I'm better when creative but keep slipping into "how to" technicals. Sound and club intent seems to make a lot of sense Thanks for sharing, sincerely appreciated 🙏

Thanks for the support Greg, making the connection from movement to play is hugely underrated so hopefully this is a good start.

40yds out one of my weakest shots? I have release #1 with 10 o'clock hands 50** wedge, release #2 with backswing around 11 o'clock with a 59* and I have hands leading low spinner with 54* .
I'm thinking if I ask your advice it'll be situational? But I'll take anything you offer
    Lovin your guidance.

Really inconsistent with my chipping. Never seen anybody provide instruction like this. But didn't quite follow it to be honest. For me, need larger graphic and zoom in on the wrists.
