    Hey whatsup guys, OSG here with a video I didn’t think would ever happen…but how wrong was I, loads of people asked If I would do a Games with Gore video for the C64 but off the top of my head I could only think of one or 2 games that had blood and gore in…… but after a little bit digging Ive found 10 games that show that the 8bit micro could not just do gore but could do it really well.

      Yes, this! You can actually build platforms of all the bodies in that game. Bodies exploding from the inside when a elite enemy spawns, and your health-meter in the form of a hand crushing a heart, violently squishing it when you die. I beats at least some of the titles in this list. Barbarians II could be rated a bit higher if you consider when the "dino" eats your head too =)

And I didn't even check out any later C64 game with an emulator as only classics I had I played here and there from maybe 1999 onwards mostly with friends at some evenings for nostalgic reasons only, which I cannot say until nowadays for some Amiga or DOS or Arcade games... . When you actually look at the 'gore' in most of these games, it is comical to describe hem as such. The graphics of the day were not capable of getting anywhere near resembling blood. I think most of this would have kids laughing rather than being remotely terrified.

    • @oldstylegaming
      @oldstylegaming  Před 8 měsíci +1

      We say that now cos we are used to super real graphics, but really even if you look at the likes of mortal kombat now the gore is comical....wasnt back then though

      I don’t think C64 could do a proper red color. Shame.

    • @IsaacKuo
      @IsaacKuo Před 8 měsíci

      @@JamesJameson The C64 can do red no problem, besides red and light red, the dark brown color is also suitable for blood.
      Anyway, one particularly noteworthy gory 8-bit game was The Bilestoad, which unfortunately never got a C64 port. We're talking persistent bleeding, blood spots left on the battlefield, lopped off limbs, with bloody gashes where the limbs were lopped off from ... Unfortunately all that graphic graphical detail came at the cost of a choppy frame rate, but a C64 port could have been smoother thanks to hardware sprite graphics and maybe use of character tile graphics.
      I think the main reason most 8-bit games avoided graphic depictions of blood and gore was simply that they were trying to appeal to wider audiences, and edgy dark edgelord stuff didn't become fashionable until the 1990s. Graphic horror was viewed as low budget low profit B movie schlock at best.
