- I was looking for the best chainsaw I could possibly find for what I am doing and hopefully I have found it. The Stihl MS261c-vm is the professional grade 50cc saw from Stihl with the additional artic package that includes heated handles and heated carburetor. I am hoping that this saw will be a perfect fit for my all around chainsawing needs. Watch as we look at why I bought it as well as for a general overview and testing of the saw.
Welcome to Traplines and Inlines, this channel focuses on my dog and I on our remote Off the Grid Homestead in Northern Canada. I make videos on off grid homesteading and building, trapping, chickens, mechanical projects, and hunting and fishing.
I went offgrid and started building my cabin over two years ago, while I was still in highschool. Since then I have built many things at the homestead and have had the priviledge of learning many things along the way.
The homestead is designed to be relatively low maintenance and with extremely minimal expenses. All of my electricity comes from solar power, heat from woodstoves, and I haul all my water so I dont have any monthly costs associated with my homestead.
I love the lifestyle, especially because it gives me the absolute freedom to do whatever I please. I plan on continuing to tackle awesome projects and work at building and fixing many more things, and I cant wait to share them with you on the channel.
Thanks for watching! - Zábava
Fantastic saw you have there. Your excitement is mint. Can’t go wrong having two chainsaws. You showed us your birthdate on a milk carton in Bushcamp - Finally Getting the Fridge Running Off Solar at the Offgrid Cabin published August 26, 2020. So, wishing you a belated Happy Birthday, Trapline and Inlines! … - Enjoy! With an Old Mil or two of course. Be safe my friend.
Wow thank you! you sure are a loyal viewer Ted I appreciate it thank you

Your subscribers are your friends unlike other channels!!
I own one of these and can confirm you will love it the more you use it. Better than husky all day.
Your tool/equipment reviews are top notch. Very thorough, detailed and realistic from an actual end user who uses the tools as intended. Thank you for that.
It's amazing how articulate and knowledgeable about things this kid is at his age. And such a wide range of skills. One day he's literally rebuilding a transmission by hand; next day he's teaching you how to clear-cut a forest with one saw.
Your such a great lad with a very good heart. That’s why people you don’t know care so much about you and your loss of Cougar. The world has a lot of bad and scary people in it; but there are far more people with good hearts like yours. Thank you for all you do and for sharing your amazing and skilled workmanship. 🙂🌟🙂🌟
Yes I agree heated anything in -30 weather is always great.. I know cause I live in Manitoba Canada.
Sending peace and love your way again sir. Don't you just love it when you get a new toy!!!
We all really loved your buddy.R.I.P. Cougar.damn.
Just be happy about the time you and Cougar had together all good dogs go to heaven.
I have ms.290 for 10yrs. Still runs the like new i cut my fire wood and my grandson 30 cords each enjoy stay safe out there till the next video
'Enjoy all of your videos. Just continue to experience all life has to offer, and thanks for sharing.
Being of German descent, Stihl power equipment is the only choice for me....another great video Kyle, thanks.
Thank you Kyle 🙏appreciate you my friend, hope you're doing well, stay safe and take care 👋👍
Nothing like the feeling of a new power saw aye 😁
You'll appreciate the warmer hands when its cold af. Always good to have a spare ' beater' saw.
I’ve had my ms261 for 7 yrs now,not one issue…I love it
Heated hand grips? Hell yeah! Warm hands can help you work longer and be more comfortable. More comfortable is safer, just reality. Good purchase!
You are an awesome guy Kyle. This is why ppl love you so much. You cannot imagine how many ppl like you have no sense of direction or even want to do anything. So many addicts that may not ever get beyond that. You on the other hand are very resourceful and know what you want and go after it. I am sure there's a lot of us that would like to help you because they know how much you would appreciate what they could do for you no matter how much or little. That said, you are highly thought of and your vids are so anticipated! Do you think you will ever get another dog? As you know, they give you SO MUCH! I would love to see you have another one.
Take care and thank you! J
Is Kyle a recovering addict? I'm a somewhat newer subscriber so I haven't heard him mention that in any video I've seen
Excellent choice! I've run multiple 261c's over the last few years and it's by far the best all around chainsaw ever made!
Congrats on the new saw. I worked at a Stihl dealer for almost 20 years. Top quality saws. I’ve cut many cords of wood with them and own 3 from 49 to 72cc. Wouldn’t own anything else. Looks like we’re going to have a nice fall to get out and have some fun in the bush. Glad to see you’re doing great. Have a good one.
I went from Husq to Stihl.. NEVER looking back. The make and finish of them is why my dad still has his Stihl from the 70's.
Did you go from a clamshell to a pro saw like this guy too??!! Due tell…
I remember the excitement when you got the last chainsaw
Yes, it was a gift from his grandparents :)
"Buy once cry once" and "2 is one, 1 is none" Seems as I get older the more I realize how all those sayings the old timers tell me are spot on. They weren't saying them for no reason. I've had trouble with my Poulan for a couple years now and have been looking to get a Stihl, just not sure on the model yet. Definitely wont be one of the cheaper Stihl. This 261 looks perfect
Keep Poulan' maybe it'll start! lol Wise words.
The 261 is the lowest cc of the professional lineup of Stihl saws. We have one and really like it. We also have a 362 and 661 and an older 011 top handle. You will not regret buying either husqvarna or Stihl ‘professional’ series saws.
Great purchase. I enjoyed hearing your reasoning and care in the choice. You are such a smart young man.
For sure we care! Always want the best for you, nice to see you with the saw you deserve!! Stay well, happy log building my friend 👍
Nice looking saw. I've had my Stihl for 15 years and I can always count on it. Glad to see a video of you man. Can't wait to see you put that baby to work.
Congratulations on your new saw. You really explain things so well for those of us who don't know these things. 👍
Congratulations on your new Stihl purchase. Should give years of service. I started felling in the bush back in the 60s with an AV045.Then upgrade to the best saw on the planet an AV075. Heavy but unlimited power.
Great choice on the new saw, she'll give you years of great service. The heated carb comes in real handy in the winter, especially where you are..lol Love what you're doing ❤️ Keep on keeping on
Never can have to many saws , 261s are a great saw opted to the husqvarna 550 with heated grip and saved a hundred bucks over still hopefully it works well for a long time
Great choice for a work horse of a saw. Hard to beat the power to weight ratio. It will serve you well for many years to come. Don't shy away from the 20" bar, I bury mine in Oak almost daily, with no issues, and keeps me from bending over too much when limbing and bucking. Keep up the good work bud!
I have a friend here in southern Saskatchewan that runs a variety of Stihl chainsaws for his tree removal service and they are amazing pieces of equipment. You'll be happy for years to come with that saw
You'll like the heated handle! I had a snowblower with them and I was like "Pffft... I don't need that."... Well.... It was NICE!
You should start selling tickets to the gun show my boy. All that sawing getting you in tip top shape Awesome purchase on the saw. Have a good one stay safe. 🇺🇲🇨🇦👍👊
New jeans and workboots ! Looking good
I have a new ms 271 no arctic package but I love it. Then again I’ve always been a stihl guy. Can’t wait to see ya build something with it. Stay safe and good luck out there buddy 👍👍
Congratulations good choice I have been running my 260 since 2004 I bought it with my first paycheck out of high school
Thank you for sharing. That is a nice saw. I have a larger sthil saw that I am very happy with.
Have had that ms261 saw for over a decade now and it runs phenomenally.
I've got three 260's. All bought used. You're gonna love Stihl.
Good to hear from you bro.i was looking for you the last couple days.awesome.keep em coming. Alberta neighbour.
Nice saw. Thanks for explaining the "arctic" package....I wasn't aware of it. I normally run a MS461 with a 48" bar. I'm very happy with Stihl.
Fantastic saw. My 261c has a TON of hours on it and zero issues. Mine isn't an arctic, but I don't need that where I live. I don't use it a ton anymore as I have a 462 and a 500i as well which I do most of my felling and bucking with. You'll enjoy that 261 for many years. The only tip I have for guys that are new to M-tronic saws is to let the saw idle a bit after running it hard for a while. Let the M-tronic come back down to idle and reset itself before you shut it off. if you shut it off right out of a cut, it can cause some flooding issues. If that happens, just hold the throttle wide open while you start it. That usually clears it up.
Best review of the Stihl MS261c I've seen....Kyle, you have a great future with your down to earth attitude. Keep on keeping on!
Nice new saw! Looking forward to what you build using it!
My 261 is great. My 661 is even better for milling! keep up the good work man!
That's a beaut bud. Quality equipment that will do the job you need and easy start
Good to see ya back bud. Keep up the drive; it’s healthy for ya.
Keep the videos coming, I enjoy them all
Thank you I’ve been looking at that saw.I think you should work for stihl!! Your a great salesman explaining all the benifits and features!!
GREAT CHANNEL!!! CONGRATS ON YOUR SUCCESS WITH THE LOGS, WHO KNOW MAYBE YOUR CANADAS NEXT BIG TIME LOG HOME BUILDER $$$$$👍😁
hey traplines! tree guy here, just wanted to say its a good choice keeping both saws, if your bucking a ton of wood its nice to fuel up both and just focus on cutting until you run them both dry I find it helps me process big loads of wood without having to stop and maintain the saws👍👍👍
totally love my ms261, reliable, cut anything, easy to take apart to maintain
Hey thanks for the review great looking saw
Thanks for the breakdown & tutorial ~ always learn something cool through you. Know absolutely nothing else about chainsaws but I do know that Stihl makes pretty great products - have fun using it! (The warming handle is genius. Without it, can imagine hands cramping; especially when your fingers are fighting stiff gloves in cold weather. This little detail could significantly stop that.🤞)
Omg after watching your Video about your Dog , Mine just Passed away last week too n it's so Sad n Hard n will never be the Same with out my Dog too n he was my Buddy n Pal.
Stihl chainsaw are the best I just bought one ms 170 I love it
Great video!! Been looking at that saw minus the arctic package. Glad to see you got one!!
great saw, the thing I love about stihl, is they pretty much always start on the first pull.
I ran Steele‘s the whole time growing up and on Steeles now never had one start on the first pole always 56 poles hospitals first bowl I do agree that they’re both great sauce also on the exact same 455 rancher never had a oil problem ever but never had a steel start on the first pole unless it’s already been running. And I was a logger ran the chainsaws every day
Looking forward to see what you will be cutting and building with the new saw!
Great vid! I have a couple of them pro stihl saws. It should treat you well. Great to see you smiling again!!!! Like Ted mentioned before me , STAY SAFE!
You’re a good man Kyle. On the saw choice I purchased a Stihl model 031AV in 1977. Has a 16” bar and is well used. She’s still running today but parts are becoming hard to find (eBay seems to be the best source). You made a great choice on the Stihl.
My dad bought one in the 1970s
Yes I've owned a couple of them over the years! I bought a 028 wb when they first came out in the 70s! It was still running great when someone stole it in the 90s! I've bought several more to replace it over the years but they don't run like it did! I'd taken great care of it!
Great saw man. lb for lb these things fucking rip bahd. I've used a lot of saws over the years, and the STIHL 261 series is phenomenal. One thing I'd recommend is to put some white lithium grease around the air filter seal, and keep it very clean. When these filters get clogged, the little bit of dust that pulls through the skirt will fuck that servo that runs the fuel mix in the carb. I'd buy a couple spares and keep them on hand. It's and easy swap, just like any other carb but with an electronic part. If it gives you trouble, 99% chance that's what it is.
Potty mouth!
She sounds so freakin’ good brother! I love these little saws and I think you made a great decision with this one. Makes me miss the few that I’ve had over the years.
Nice buy Stihl going to last forever 😁💯 I 💯💯
You are a smart young guy. I encourage you to continue on your way. Awesome channel.
im so glad your here. its so friggin cool !!!!!!
Stay safe my friend good saw
Young fellow… coming from a lumber jack of 40 years you picked a great saw. I own the same. Like your channel. Keep up the good work.
What a beautiful piece of equipment.
Great review! Thank you!
There a great little saw. Grown up with Stihl saws, first I ever used being a 08S which was my grandfather's which I still have and still use. I have a heap of Stihl saws my biggest at the minute is a 500i which I've had for 2 years now and love it. Just ordered a 881 for the heavier work and to mill bigger logs.
Your a inspirational young man! Beast
Now you got a good saw young follow. i used still for years and cut a lot of pulp wood here in NOVA SCOTIA ,I HAD THE 34 STILL .
I think you have picked out a really great new saw! The arctic package will be really nice for you in the winter. I never had any issues with my Stihl so hope you have good luck too. Having the Husky as a back up is great idea also - also a good saw! Have a nice day! 😀
Another great video buddy!
the tool and the man ... unbroken love affair lol, cheers bud .. make it sing
Wow..she's a beauty. Cut through wood like a hot knife through butter. Great investment 👌
Love ya man, sorry for the loss of Coug there. Keep doing what you're doin 🤜🏻
Congrats on the new toy! Chainsaw is the m’en best friend in the woods 👌🏻
Congrats on your new saw! May she serve you well for many many years.
Kyle. So sorry about the loss of your dog, he was always a good companion for you over the years, they really do become family members. Good luck with the new Stihl saw, I inherited Stihl saw from my Dad when he passed, it has to be 30 years old and still runs great. Be extremely careful working alone the way you do. Especially with a chain saw. Always have a cell phone handy for the unexpected. Love your work ethic, your inspiring to us all. Take care and good luck with your new build
Ron Armstrong from Pennsylvania Dutch country in Lancaster county
Congrats on the new saw, looks like a beauty! I have an old 260 which I love for it's light weight and power, also have a 460 for felling and milling with the Arctic package, the heated grip is a welcome bonus on those cold winter days, you'll appreciate it for sure with your winters!
Because your alone out there you should invest in a pair of kevlar chaps to protect your legs. I have used a saw for many years yet I managed to cut myself badly once and because of my remote location, would have bled out if the cut were one or two inches further inside the leg. Be safe out there!
the 261c is a great saw! I work with it a lot and it's a nice light saw with plenty of power. I can only recommend it!
You will like that 261 much better than that Husky for sure.
We have two of the 261’s
May God keep you safe in all your work and in your life 😇💯🙏👍
I ran husky for years but when they were being sold in big box stores no one could get parts so I went to stihl and 20 years later still running great
finally on stihl, you'll never leave
Man I remember watching ur videos a year or 2 ago when u had garbage old saws 😂😂 good shit! Happy for u
Great Video!!!! Very informative and great camera work showing the saw functioning and more than just 20 cookie cuts lol!!! I hope to see more video from you!
Very nice chainsaw you picked up. good pro saw. And the heated handle is a must have for you up there
I enjoy your videos keep them coming
Happy Birthday. Hope the saw was a present from you to you!
Keep up the great videos you sure are great entertainment to see here on you tub
i learned things from this video, thank you
Fricken Rights new saw and renewed spirit. Cannot wait to see what you get up to next.
Hell yeah bro, cant wait to see more!
Unbelievable that it is still so much cheaper than in Germany! Same model would be around 1200euro with a 16 inch light 04 bar and chain....
Enjoy your saw.
Absolutely awesome 😎 this will work for you
The 311 with 20 inch bar is a great combo. I’ve had mine 5 years and no problems except leaks oil during storage so place saw in boot tray in shed.
