    I drove my first Model 3 about 3 weeks ago. It was a single-motor Highland upgrade from the Tesla dealer near me. Loved the way it drove and felt. It's quiet, with a quality feel to it but still agile, easy and fun to drive. Range is a bit low. I want 300 mile EPA minimum for any electric I buy. A few days later, I found a 2020 Performance at a Volvo dealer. I went for a test drive. Love the power! It had the right color and wheels and I was ready to buy until I actually drove it. It was noisy and did not do well on moderately bad roads. For me, suspension trumps ultimate power, so long as power is adequate for enthusiastic street driving. I drove the car back and, even for $30,000 with low miles, I didn't want it. Then I took a deeper dive in to Model 3 and found out about Track Mode and Randy Pobst's work with Tesla and his Pike's Peak adventures in a modded Performance Model 3. I want Track Mode! So far as I'm concerned, they can keep the Model 3 looking exactly like the other Highlands and keep the power the same too. Give me that suspension sophistication, noise-absorbing windows etc.. Keep the price reasonable and let me go to the aftermarket for extras. In fact, after reading about all the possibilities, I'm considering that $30K 2020 Performance again. Coil-overs with better ride? Yes please! ...but I've been killed on resale every time I mod a good car, no matter how well thought out and no matter how well it works. I'll hope Elon doesn't inject too much crazy into the Performance Model 3 this time...and I will DRIVE one before I buy or order one. That probably means a year or so before I own one...by then, who knows what'll be out there.

    The Model S long range will completely demolish a Model 3 Performance. The Model 3 is like a 13 second 60-130. The S Long range, 60-130 is in the 7.7 range. The Plaid S is a 4.7 60-130.

    • @brianrasmussen2956
      @brianrasmussen2956 Před 4 měsíci

      True, though the 60-130 isn't very usable, as the fastest speed we are allowed to go where I live is 75. I have the M3P and my friend has the S Plaid, and while the plaid is faster, it to see doesn't feel that much faster. But then we never did over 75 anyway 🙂

    I have the 2018 Model 3 Performance with zero G wheels and mountain pass performance coilovers. My wife has a 2023 Model Y Performance. I would consider trading the Model 3 in if the new one did 0-60 in 2.5 seconds and the 1/4 mile in the High 10’s. If the performance is not greater than this, I would probably go for the Plaid.

    Your information about the Model S LR 0-60 mph is incorrect. The Model S LR is actually slightly slower 0-60 mph than the current Model 3 Performance. A lot of people are upset because they can’t even achieve the claimed 0-60 mph time of 3.1 without subtracting rollout in their Model S LR. However, after 60 mph the Model S LR is much quicker than the Model 3 Performance.

    • @JremiahJones
      @JremiahJones  Před 4 měsíci +3

      You are wrong. MSLR in insane mode with drag strip mode active will do ~3.1 seconds. M3P is ~3.3 seconds.

    • @LearningFast
      @LearningFast Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@JremiahJones you are 100% incorrect. All of the data is on Dragy. Check it yourself. I did 3.23 without subtracting rollout and 3.04 with rollout subtracted in a 100% stock 2022 Model 3 Performance. Almost all of the Model S LR cars are at that time or slower.

    • @JremiahJones

      @LearningFast Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@JremiahJones you are wrong. Model S isn’t as fast as you say it is. Just check Dragy. You get a ton of other stuff wrong in your video too. The Performance Model already has a bigger battery(78 vs 82 kWh) than the LR Model 3.

    • @JremiahJones
      @JremiahJones  Před 4 měsíci +3

      I’m sorry you’re upset that your M3P is slower than a long range s. I show a M3P 0-60 with dragy time in this video. There are tons of videos on youtube that show the same time. There are also tons of videos showing a MSLR doing 0-60 in ~3.1 without rollout subtracted.
      Also, what are you going on about? I do not at any point say the performance has a smaller battery in this video, i state the M3LR has more range. Are you going to try and argue with me on that too? You are aware that battery size isn’t the only factor for range? M3LR uses a more efficient motor which achieves a higher rating despite having a smaller battery than the M3P. I have stated the 82 kWh pack size in numerous videos.
      A model 3 performance is a fantastic car, i love mine. However, I’m not gonna go around shouting nonsense because my car isn’t as fast as the more expensive model.

    Great video. For me to upgrade, first, I refuse to take a bath on getting out of my current M3P. If i can get to break even, then it's time.
    Second, the performance would have to be better on the top end above 90mph, so mid 10 quarter mile or lower. The upgraded seats would be a big plus. Aside from those things anything else is not as important to me. Realistically looking at 2-3 years away for me if it meets my expectations, otherwise ill just keep my '23.
    I also love black cars but just cant bring myself to buy them anymore. Tough to keep the paint nice and my previous blavk cars have all been hit in parking lots, or on the road while in the dark due to other drivers not being able to see them well.

    What will it take to get me to sell my Model 3 Performance? Hmm, if I get the tax credit, it's a no brainer. Just the fact that this will be 5 yrs newer than my M3P (newer battery, etc.) plus the nicer ride and quietness of the Highland edition has me pulling out my wallet. If they throw in another motor, dropping 0-60 times to sub 2.7 sec, that would be crazy. My Plaid S was quick and fast, but my M3P is the nimble go kart I love (except a few road bumps). Hoping for no yoke for the M3P. I'd like better 30-70 times (really not needed, but would be really fun). That's the speeds the Plaid S feels different from other Model S's (since all these performance cars are more limited by the grip of the 4 tires on the asphalt below 30 mph rather than pure hp. As far as g forces above 70mph+ or top speed, well honestly I don't run the track, so it isn't applicable for me. The Cybertruck is a different beast all together (pun intended). I had fun shooting a vid of this. I might make the Cybertruck available for other CZcamsrs to do vids too. Not sure. The steering wheel on the Cybertruck is a good compromise between a wheel and a yoke. I haven't become annoyed with it's oval shape. Not sure if there is a benefit to the oval shape other than looking cool. Of course the steer by wire in the CT is amazing, so you don't have to spin the wheel around multiple times. Amazing. Comments anyone?

I Really want it in Red so I’m hoping that it will be possible. I would pay 54,999.00 for this trim. IF it’s priced above 55K in base color and does NOT qualify for the Credit than forget it I’m going with the Long range

      Are we talking peak? Current M3P already peaks at around 530 but falls off heavily after 45mph or 5000 rpm on the rear motor. While I would love to see a plaid motor, I personally believe they're gonna drop the MSLR motors in.

    Good vid but definitely an error. While on paper, the S long range (aka MS LR) 0-60 should beat the 3 Performance (aka M3P), it never does in the real world. An M3P will easily do under 3.1 with rollout. A good running one will do close to 3.1 without rollout. The MS LR is typically in the 3.3 range without rollout. Far off of Tesla's claim. I must have done 100+ runs in my MS LR. I tried a lot of other MS LR and all pretty much the same. Once you get rolling though, the MS LR will run away and hide from the M3P. If the new M3P would launch at least as hard as it does now, and then pull like the MS LR from about 40, it would be an awesome daily driver. I might replace my Plaid for daily use with it. If it doesn't, I'll keep my boosted M3 LR with MPP suspension and good brakes.

    • @JremiahJones
      @JremiahJones  Před 3 měsíci

      Hmm interesting. My M3P has never done under 3.1 with rollout subtracted. It’s a very consistent 3.3 without it though. Ive done pulls in a LR S with a box and have gotten 3.1 times, there’s also videos from other people here on yt showing the same.

    • @wavshrdr8452
      @wavshrdr8452 Před 3 měsíci

      @@JremiahJones I'd love to see it. Been tracking the time on Dragy for some time and the best I saw was 3.18. I've seen a lot of M3Ps run better than that when timed the same way. On the plus side, SOC doesn't seem to matter much on the MS LR. Didn't matter if the batteries were warm, cheetah stance, drag strip mode, no AC, nothing seemed to hurt or help the times. There are a lots of people who have posted their Dragy times on TMC and typically are in the 3.3 - 3.4 second range. First M3P I ever actually ran a Dragy on ran a true 3.14 with no rollout out games. That was with 85% SOC and the AC on. Best my MS LR ever ran was just under 3.3 under the same conditions. That was 100% SOC and 19" wheels. The MS LR should have easily been in the upper 2's with the power it has. Either gearing or torque limiting is making it slower to 60 than it should be. Tesla could be throttling it so as not to steal sales from the Plaid.

    I dive a 2022 M3P too. Listen to me very carefully. There is basically going to be ONE real advantage to getting the new performance. 60-120mph acceleration. That is to say once you’re rolling on the freeway and you want to accelerate the new one might actually be quick. Our current model, three performance lacks top end acceleration. Note I didn’t say top speed that something completely different. Your top speed might be 162 miles an hour, but it might take five years to get there. Top max speed doesn’t mean “acceleration on the freeway “. Our current m3P lacks freeway acceleration vs other sports sedans. 0-60 acceleration is good 👍. If the refresh model three performance solves this issue of top end acceleration, then it will be perfect. Basically keep that 500+ HP going past 60mph. Currently the power peaks at 60mph then slowly drops off past that.
