    That is one thing that irked me about several people reviewing the Unicorn when it released. Often times they were reviewing the chinese market version that was power limited and they were bashing it for the relatively lower performance. That was one thing I pushed for with XYL regarding the US stock versions of the blaster. Solid plunger tube and thicker o-rings included in the box for more power and consistency.

    Try the XYL 1.8 upgrade spring. With the OOD internals kit, I’m getting an even 200 with a nice prime.

    Captain Xavier!!! Great video as always. Try using the ultra 5 stock spring in the unicorn. With the stock internals that don’t have the slot in the plunger tube and the ultra 5 spring, I was hitting 210-230 and the prime was fairly manageable. Ultra 5 spring is stronger than k26 in blasters with shorter draws and/or smaller diameter plunger tubes. I learned that from your K26 video on the ultra 5.

      Oooh cool idea. I like my Ultra 5 though and don't wanna sacrifice it lol. Maybe if I find another for cheap.

    I also got the kit from black raisins. I did have to change a few of the orings to get a better seal and woth the stronger and longer spring i was hitting very hot. At about 10 feet i was putting dart through the cardboard the blaster came with. It was crazy lol. Didn't check my fps but in sure it was over 200.

    Interesting video. I have the Black raisins mod kit, it normally comes with 2 high powered long springs which i didnt see in your vid. Not sure if you got those or not? the kit was a little temperamental if you didn't re-align the internals properly but I never had any major issues with it beyond having to reassemble a couple of times. I haven't have any problems with o-rings so far at least.
    I also got the most popular cosmetic kit from Taobao which is what the out of darts kit seems to be a copy of. (the barrel shroud extension & the rail pieces), but the most important upgrade which no one else at least stateside seems to have is the extended barrel, there's a 35cm & 45cm rifled barrel designed specifically for this blaster available in China, it definitely makes the black raisins kit come alive. With the BR kit + the 45cm barrel it was shooting comfortably above 250fps (bamboo darts) but it definitely makes it more difficult to prime.

    Why do we as a community get a great blaster on the market that is unique. Then turn it in to everything else that we own. The only thing holding me back buying a unicorn. Is the fact the I have a top prime blaster that does the same thing. If you’re going for bigger with more power. At that point you may as well just get a Seagull.

    • @CaptainXavier
      @CaptainXavier  Před 5 měsíci +4

      ...you do understand that just because upgrades for a blaster exist that does not somehow oblige you to make said upgrades, right? You can leave a Unicorn stock if you want.

    • @jeffreycarman2185
      @jeffreycarman2185 Před 5 měsíci

      I understand this concern. People are people, and they like what they like. I don’t have need for super-high-powered blaster, but I have considered a unicorn since it is so compact and relatively inexpensive.

      Not sure if this is what you meant but I can kind of understand where you are coming from. I brought a unicorn with worker kit to an event and there were several harriers, unicorns, seagulls, and it kind of felt samey. I also brought a minimised xshot eliminator which was definitely unique which garnered way more interest.
      The more there is a performance side to the hobby the more there is a need for samey blasters. The form factors work well and are efficient. It is easier to get a tag with a seagull/harrier/unicorn in a somewhat wide open field then it is with a (in my case) modded eliminator.

    • @CaptainXavier
      @CaptainXavier  Před 5 měsíci +1

      @petershalaka3493 Excellent point! I think you did spot what they were getting at.
      Yeah, when it came out, the Unicorn had a bunch of unique qualities that people really liked. But the performance wasn't what they wanted so they started modding it. In the end, to get the performance they wanted, they had to strip away everything that made it unique. That is the price of performance, and for a large part of our hobby, performance is what they care about the most. And that is fine if that is what brings them joy.
      But as I said before (a bit more snarky than necessary), you are not obliged to make performance your primary objective and can simply enjoy the fun and unique qualities of the Unicorn. :)

    Question about the Blackraisins upgrade kit. Would you happen to know if the rear metal plate accepts same size threading as an AR15 buffer tube?

    • @CaptainXavier
      @CaptainXavier  Před 5 měsíci

      I have no idea.

    • @multipleerrors3037
      @multipleerrors3037 Před 5 měsíci

      There is a popular 3d printed part available that adds a standard buffer tube sleeve, that slides over the top of the alloy shaft from the BR upgrade kit. It uses the same screw threads as the alloy plate to attach, couldn't tell you if the threads are the same size as a real steel buffer tube though since I don't have access to a real AR to compare.

    If I keep it with say, the 1.8mm spring, can I keep the stock plunger? I’m concerned by the risk of metal fragmentation from the metal plunger vs the metal catch

      @@CaptainXavier Mine actually slams fires better than shooting slow with 1.8mm spring and long barrel, closed tube... slow or lazy priming is its problem.

  • @Foam0Fett
    @Foam0Fett Před 5 měsíci

    So, this or the Seagull? Cause if I got the unicorn and put the buffer tube on it to ease the prime I wonder if I should just get the Seagull in orange instead.

    • @CaptainXavier
      @CaptainXavier  Před 5 měsíci

      Assuming the costs are the same (I have no idea what they cost), the biggest difference is ease of tear down. This is 2 pins to be able to swap springs and maintain the blaster. The Seagull is not nearly so easy to open.

    • @CaptainXavier
      @CaptainXavier  Před 5 měsíci

      But personally, of the 2, I prefer the Seagull. Worker just does things so well.
