Being a Spanish speaker, I can tell you that this little man sang that song with such passion it’s crazy. Howie could not be more wrong, age and all, this kid sang this song with passion and talent, perfect song for him! Just because he doesn’t like the song or understand the lyrics, it doesn’t mean he has to knock him for it. It was amazing! Not many people can sing this!

I watched this air last night with my family. The room got completely quite when this young man started singing. I disagree with Howie a 100%. Music is timeless and limitless. Just because you can not understand the lyrics to a song does not mean you can not feel the raw emotion in the his voice. You are making your gente proud, muchacho. You keep it up.

I believe his song choice was meant to be symbolic as José José first recited this song in a competition. That moment and song became iconic and it's embraced by Latinos and I'm sure by others, from different backgrounds, across the world.

I think it was just Howie's OWN personal taste and bias in music. Just because you don't like that genre does not mean you can judge his singing skills because of it. I believe you don't have to understand what they are saying or the language itself. Howie could have just evaluated his singing skills based on his tone, and how well he hits the high or low keys in singing. Heck I only speak spanish and english and in my playlist I have all types of languages like Korean, cantonese, arabic, italian, manderin, spanish, english and german.

HOLY DIAPHRAGM! That was amazing. Amazing breath control and a lovely tone. I think it is hilarious that Howie and Simon have a critique of his song choice (which is one of the most BELOVED and hardest Latin American songs to sing for its unbelievably difficult long phrases). I almost wonder if they just don't like Spanish-language music, in general, which is a problem considering a huge portion of the American public is, ahem, Spanish-speaking. The fact that he is TWELVE and singing this piece with conviction and good technique is incredibly impressive. BRAVO.

I am from Spain, and this song "El triste" is one of the most difficults spanish songs and in 1971 was interprted by one of the most important singers from Mexico. This beautifil little Boy song excelent and I thing he has am excelente voice ability.
Howie should've realized that he has a real talent by being able to sing such an old difficult song at such a young age. Just because a song doesn't fit how someone looks is a stupid reason to say no or to question their talent

When I was a kid, in the 70's I saw my mom listen to the songs of José José and I sang them all. The number one singer in Mexico and all of Latin America until the early 90's. This song "El Triste" ("The sad man" in English) is the great song! and very difficult to sing. Since those times, there is no one who does not know Jóse José and his songs and put them late at night in a party and sing them ... You can find "El triste" in You tube. José José had a privileged voice and never forgotten. Today he lives and fights for pancreas cancer!

I was fortunate enough to attend a preview screening of COCO and meet Anthony Gonzalez. He sang a couple of tunes for us and was brilliant.
Angel Garcia has as much charisma, charm and I like his voice better than Anthony's -- but that's me. Angel shows ZERO nerves on stage, holding out notes beautifully, and that last note sounds like he had breath all the way to his shoes: beautiful, strong, open and supported. Very well done.
