This doesn’t feel anything like the book! I'm happy we got an adaptation but the book was sooooo good. And why would you make Jane a sword fighting badass? She was smart, shy and very funny, for God's sake she fought with a frying pan! People please read the book before you make any judgements. And where's Elizabeth?????

And this why, when they finally do a adaptation of anything, anime, book, comic, graphics novels, i usually haven't seen or read any of it lol, which means i can go in blind, and except it for what it is....Thank God. 🫡

At least this adaptation got one thing right, Jane Grey’s parents were abusive pieces of garbage.
That was a feature of the 1980s version with Helena Bonham Carter and Cary Elwes; I believe it is a truth generally acknowledged 😊

Except that catherine the great was an oppresive tyrant, as all russian rulers were/are. Jane Grey was truly just a victim but she had potential to be so much more.

@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849 A woman who was part of a scheme to circumvent the rightful heir to the throne because she was Catholic. She was queen for 9 days and was never coronated. Mary's support was so overwhelming because she was the rightful heir. A usurper who is pathetic is still a usurper.
I love The Great, and if this show is slightly like that, I'll be more than happy

I wasn't gonna watch the trailer, cos based on the thumbnail, I figured it was either gonna another period drama or something like Bridgerton. But I had a pang of curiosity and checked it out... and I'm glad I did. Cos it looks bloody great!
Fair play, I haven't read the books. And I know what it's like to see a bad adaptation of a story you enjoy (Artemis Fowl still haunts me). But from a complete newbie's perspective, this looks right up my street.

It’s a good movie although the marriage of Jane and Guildford was romanticized.
This seems to be the second adaptation I have heard of where her husband Guildford and Lady Jane fall in love

Yes, it doesnt look like the book story, there are many and many changes. But I dont mind honestly. It looks great. No adaptation of book is 100% acurate. I'm happy to see at least some scenes from book, also the casting is actually nice, specially Dudley and Gifford. I can't actually wait for the changes, you must take all adaptations as a fan fiction and you will never be disappointed and some scenes that werent in book looks really interesting. We'll see but rn I can't wait for the premiere
I did see a brief image in the trailer that mirrors a scene from the 1986 adaptation of Lady Jane's story- the one where they were kissing as the sun went down.

@@user-xr7fi6dy1w I am not gonna elaborate because of spoilers but one thing that sums up my point is that the book version of Lady Jane fought with a frying pan. In this she's Zorro basically. They've just lost the complete nuance of her character. Every YA damsel demands independence and that's basically the composition of their whole character. Jane in the book wants autonomy etc but it's done in a way where she's got her own strengths and interests. It's a lazy way of portraying female character by just shoving a sword in their hands and calling them 'strong'. Which is EXACTLY what they have done here
Alsp the book is gooddam hillarous jane is intersted in books not boy amd shes not even the only focus all the charters get their chance to shine and pov time

Lady Jane Grey’s story was tragic. She was just a teenager. She was used and abused by the adults around her for their gain. What a disrespectful mockery.
I don't think it's disrespectful, quite the opposite. The fact that the real Jane Grey's life was so unfair or tragic makes this cool because it's giving her a chance to fight back and take the ending she deserved. It even asks, "What if history were different?"
But it isn’t different. You can’t rewrite history.
