    I’m trying to get used to wearing clothes more than once. I’ve been in the habit of wearing an outfit and then putting it in the hamper at the end of the day. Today I wore an outfit for the second time and I was so proud of myself! Small steps...😊

      @@coettahannah8110 It sounds like coffee is very valuable to you. In that case, you don't have to give it up. Here on this channel I like to encourage people to let go of the things they don't find valuable, so that they can make more room in their life for the things they love. In your case, it sounds like coffee is here to stay and that's a great thing to know. ^_^

      @Sara Bunting You can find a study that says literally anything is good for you. People like to hear good news about their bad habits and it's important to keep the sources and funding in mind when reading them (and definitely never simply take an article's word for it that the result of a study was what it says it was, as they can be misleading). I don't personally enjoy coffee or alcohol, so I see no point in keeping them in my life, but if you find value in them, I see no reason why you can't indulge every once in a while. To each their own. ^_^

    I have a good ,working dryer, but I never use it, because I line dry all of my clothes! In the summer I use the clothes line outside and in the winter, or rainy seasons, I hang mine and my husband's clothes inside. I never use hot or warm water to wash our clothes, only cold water. Cold water washes your clothes just as good! Also we don't use towels to dry ourselves. After we shower, we air dry, and besides the clothes that we put on after we shower, finishes drying us up.
    I used to spend $75.00 dollars on my haircut and hair coloring, but now I color my own hair with a $4.00 box of hair color. I use to pay to have my eyebrows waxed, now I pluck them myself. I used to pay close to $100.00 dollars for an anti aging serum, now I use a better anti aging serum (Virgin Coconut oil) $8.00 dollars for a large jar! I shop at garage sales and thrift stores! We used to pay a yard man to mow our lawn $65.00 dollars, every two weeks. We decided to buy our own lawnmower and we started to mow our own lawn! It was a good quality lawnmower and bit pricey, but within a few months, it paid for itself. We go to food banks, which is a huge help in saving us with our grocery bill. We never hire a professional pest control, we use DIATOMACEOUS EARTH!! for just $8.00 dollars a four pound bag!! Gets rid of fleas, ticks, spiders, roaches, ants, and bedbugs!! There's many, many, more frugal things that I do that other frugal people might not, or vice versus. For instance some frugal people don't flush their toilets, if they only urinate. I have to flush it each and every time! And some frugal people like to go through Dumpsters. (DUMPSTER DIVING) For food and items that have been thrown away. I find that grotesque! I can't imagine myself dumping into a dirty dumpster! But then again, other frugal people probably think that I'm grotesque for not washing my hair everyday (I only wash it once, every two weeks) or for not washing my clothes every single time, that I use them. (Only my underwear) or if I've been working on my yard.
    I enjoy reading what other frugal people do to save money, I hope that I gave someone out there an idea or two.

      It really all depends, on how warm you keep your house, during the winter months. Some frugal people keep their home cool, even in the winter months and they'll wear sweaters and other warm clothing, as to not use a lot of electricity to warm the home. I'm frugal in many ways, but not to that extent! My husband and I like to keep our home nice and toasty, in the winter months. Neither of us, wear jeans, but we do use thick bath towels. When I do laundry at 10:00pm and hang the towels inside our warm house, they'll be dry by tomorrow afternoon. If you are going to keep your house cool in the winter, then your jeans will probably dry within 24 hours. A lot of people don't like to hang dry their clothes, because they don't like their clothes to feel stiff, when they are dry. But that doesn't bother us one bit. I enjoy reading what frugal people do, because some people out there in You Tube land might have some awesome ideas, that I hadn't come across! What are your frugal things that you do Amy, that saves you and your family money? Please share it with us!

    It's not always cheaper to make your own household products. I can buy 4kg (roughly 8lbs) of laundry powder for 3.70 AUD (about 2.50 USD). A single kilo of washing soda would cost me just as much, so always compare before you jump into making everything yourself.

    I know every country is different, but here in the US it used to be commonplace to borrow rather than own. I don’t know why it became more common to buy and own it yourself instead, but I wish we would go back to that way.

    • @happyandauthentic
      @happyandauthentic  Před 4 lety +5

      Oh wow! That's such a radical change to how it is today in America. I'd venture a guess and say it probably became harder for people to borrow from others when they stopped knowing who their neighbours were. Living in a larger city among strangers, and add to that the fact that a lot of people have social anxiety now, would definitely make it harder to ask if you can borrow someone else's things (or lent them yours). I agree that it's quite sad.

    Perhaps the buying trend is now more prevalent because, although it is great to borrow something, there pitfalls that sometimes accompany that action. For instance, you borrow something and in the course of using it the thing breaks, gets damaged etc. If you are a responsible individual that means you ended up purchasing a new item to give back to the owner. If not, then you end up loosing a relationship over it.

    • @happyandauthentic
      @happyandauthentic  Před 4 lety

      I’m don’t personally see what’s wrong with that. 1) If you have never purchased that item yourself and you have been borrowing it for years back and forth with no issues, then they would understand that it just broke because its time had come and it would have broken whether they were using it or you were using it. In that case, they wouldn’t want you to replace it for them. 2) If you had been using it for that long then you got a lot of use out of something you didn’t buy and since you were sharing it with them, why not buy the new one? You will likely continue to share it from there on out anyway. What does it matter who bought it? 3) If the item is new and broke over the course of normal use, then the owner should take it back for a refund, not blame the person who broke it. 4) If you are borrowing something, make sure you ask about the proper way to use it. Some things are more delicate than the manual would have you think and especially if they are old they may have quirks you need to know about. If it broke because you weren’t being as careful as you should have been, then you should buy them a new one and there’s no reason to complain about it, since it was your lack of care that caused it to break. In all these instances, borrowing the item helps you cultivate a relationship with the owner of that item. That item breaking is an opportunity to continue developing that relationship further by doing right by them. You won’t lose a relationship if you handle it correctly. If you do, perhaps it wasn’t one of value in the first place.

    As an older person watching this, I have to laugh at a 20 something telling me things I already know and have known for eons. This speaks loudly to the way humans have been raised in the past few decades. This isn't so much being frugal as being smart. As for the carrying money part, some of us are better with holding onto cash and carrying cash means we spend less. And don't be telling people how to eat or drink. That isn't your business, not to mention that fast food is far more unhealthy than a cup of coffee. Not everyone lives where is good public transportation, and not all us enjoy riding a bicycle. I, for one, would hate to arrive at my job all sweaty from a bike ride. Not all of us wear leggings and tee shirts all day, every day.
