Lyrics:
I'm a stranger here, Lord
I'm a stranger everywhere
I'm a stranger here, Lord
Stranger everywhere
Yeah I could go home
but I'm a stranger there
Ain't it hard to stumble
When you've got nowhere to fall
Ain't it hard to stumble
When you've got nowhere to fall
In this whole wide world
Lord, Lord, Lord
You've just got nowhere at all
So I'm gonna saddle up my pony
and I'm gonna saddle my big black mare
I'm gonna saddle up my pony Lord
I'm gonna saddle my big black mare
And I'm gonna ride this whole world
Lord, Lord, Lord
I'm gonna find me somewhere
I'm a stranger here Lord
I'm a stranger everywhere
I'm a stranger here, Lord
I'm a stranger everywhere
Yeah, I could go home
But I'm a stranger there
Stranger there....
This is one of those albums that Really needs to be on CD and played on radio til the end of time. I bought this the first day it came out, and still listen to it.
Richie told me this was a bootleg of his songs, he never authorized this album. But I am glad it exists anyway because it has his magic and his voice.
I have read that this was one of his demos in which his record company hired studio musicians to record along side pre-existing audio and the record company did so without Havens consent after he was deemed marketable hence profitable.
The first two albums: Richie Havens, and Electric Havens, were produced by Alan Douglas. Richie stepped into a studio somewhere, probably in New York City and laid down enough tracks for two sparse albums. There are some cuts that are my absolute favorites, such as Norah’s Dove. I like the producer’s overdubs. Hammond organ, harmonica, drums, lead guitar, background singers = masterful. Alan Douglas also produced three Jimi Hendrix albums after Jimi died. My favorite, Crash Landing, has some of my favorite cuts of Jimi as a maturing artist. Again, Alan Douglas was severely criticized concerning these albums. However, again, I feel he did an excellent job. I think whoever owns Richie Havens’s estate should release these two albums as a double cd with all original artwork and some good liner notes and more photos. Let us, the fans decide with our votes of purchase. An artist’s work must be played, listened to, enjoyed, and performed, or it will die out. Those of us who love Richie would really appreciate a double cd release of these first two albums.
This is a whole mood for some of us. I pray for us. May we find the peace inside we’re longing for. May we dare to let go of the old and be free to find a new way. To always be ourselves. That’s home.
Richies passion for music always makes it his own and it always comes out brilliantly beautiful.I can always relate to his music maybe I am getting old
Rest in Peace Beautiful Stranger
Muchas Gracias por compartir.
RIP, Richie.
Goodbye and RIP!
Haunting melody, searing lyrics. Richie Havens was amazing. What an artist.
Why isn't this on iTunes?
From what I have read this album was intially one of Havens demos and his record producer hired additional musicians to add on to what Havens already recorded and released this album without Havens approval
Magic...
Amazing rendition: so haunting. Perhaps that's because I have lived the life as described in this song. And yes, once I had nowhere to fall, either. When news of his death was announced, it punched a hole in my life.
I could go home but i'm a stranger there...
just what I needed....
Tough to top this album
