    Up to which speed drives it fully electric and for how long if the battery's full?

    • @datadaedalus2216
      @datadaedalus2216 Před rokem +3

      The UK version will cruise up to 42mph before the engine kicks in. You'll get almost 2 miles on electric power only. However, you shouldn't really be running off the battery only for long distances. Just drive normally, leaving the Prius's ECU to chose when to switch between the ICE / Electric or combined modes.
      However, if I have a full battery, I'll usually silently leave for work in the early hours in EV mode without waking the neighbours. I live at the top of a hill, so I'll roll down the hill and around the corner before engaging the ICE by switching out of EV mode.
      Fun fact; I achieved 69.4 mpg from my 2008 Prius Tspirit during the past summer heatwave. From the same 45 litre tank of fuel, I managed 653 miles before I chickened out and refuelled. There was still a litre of fuel left in the tank!
      Other fun facts;
      * You'll never hear the stutter of a starter motor on the Prius. Why? It doesn't have one.....well, not a conventional one like other cars. One of the electric motors reverses polarity and spins the engine. The electric motor is so big and quiet, it probably does just one spin and the engine spools to life. No funny starter sound.
      * Step less transmission - no gears whatsoever. It's not even a true CVT - though described as an eCVT, it's actually a planetary gear set propulsion system.
      * No mechanical reverse gear. Well, no gears full stop. The gear stick is actually an oversized electronic joystick. And when you select reverse, the vehicle engages its electric motors to push the car backwards. Yup! Reverse is electric only!
      * The funky dashboard looks like a cross between that of a Star Trek Shuttlecraft and something out of the Futurama cartoon series. Whoever designed it certainly had a good sense of humour.
      * The TSpirit version takes voice commands, and you'll get verbal confirmations too! Freaky for a car first released in 2004....!!!
