  • I saw this $30 - 3 Person Ozark Trail dome tent in Walmart the other day and I absolutely had to check it out. Is this a legit tent? Would I actually go camping in it? What kind of tent can you get for $30? Watch the video and find out!

I bought this tent to use on a week long cycling trip called Bike Ride Across Georgia. Basically, We rode our bikes on average about 60 miles each day. we packed our gear up and put it on a truck each morning. It would be waiting for you at the next town. This little tent was great. It was easy to put up, take down and pack up. It rained a lot on this trip, including several nighttime storms. I picked good sites and had zero problems with water getting in . I was very impressed with this tent.

Got caught in a storm camping at a beach in this tent. I spent the night expecting this shit Walmart tent to get ripped apart. Nope. Made it through the night and it wasn't even damp inside. A lot of other people had their tents ripped, blown away, or leak. I was completely astonished lol. I brought this with me on a 10 day late fall hike too and it was fine. Best $30 I've ever spent. I'm going to be taking it on a 3 day AT hike in November.

I have the Walmart 1 person tent. Less than $30. It is blue & gray. I changed out the stakes, so down to about 3 lbs. I've taken it on sections of the AT and all of the Uinta Highline Trail. It has not failed me. I'm a fan.

The door floor flap is to not walk on the door. Flip it over the unzipped door. Would be better with a bottom zip.
Advantage it is super simple to for $30. Hard to get this wrong.. All their attempts at complex tents 25 to 50 are bad.
Their best $50 and under tent is the external pole A frame, self folding. 1 minutes setup. Pretty big. Very simple fabric arrangement.

I purchased two of these tents for $24.00 at Walmart for an overnight family camping adventure at the local park. They worked perfectly for that easy camping in perfect California weather. I did feel a little claustrophobic because it was a tight fit for three (two adults and one kid) but other than that. It served its purpose well.

This tent, poles broke down every 12 or so inches. I would love some more inside height. Thanks for reviewing. There's always room for a cheap tent in my world. And let's face it, in heavy wind and rain your screwed in any tent.

Essentially, what you're saying is, this is the tent I need to get when I make a ride cross-country ride west. The longest I've made thus far is from Key West to West Virginia and back. I had to reluctantly stop at a hotel to get some sheltered sleep. If this gets the job done as an okay train shelter when I need it, I'm down. It's a long ride from Key West to the Grand Canyon and back. Thanks for the review

I have used this one too for camping along the river and For 30 dollars it’s kept me pretty damn dry in some fairly heavy rain storms. I didn’t expect much out of it but it’s been a pretty damn good tent. I wouldn’t use it in the hot months though because it damn near cooked me in august but it was also 110 degrees so I would expect that out of just about any tent but this one with the rain fly is a little bit less forgiving.

Got it when it was $25 and has held up for us on 3 trips to Big Bend Ranch State Park and another state park. 1 of them it unexpectedly rained, but we stayed dry through the night. We recommend it 👍🏾, but yeah it probably wouldn't hold up under harsh conditions.

      @melissabillmire8641 Před rokem

I just bought the same exact Walmart "Ozark Trail" brand three person tent because it was on clearance for $19.98.
While I was in the clearance area I also found a "Slumberjack Dallas Divide" 65 liter backpack for only 29.87.
Plus, they had so many different types of camping and hiking gear in the clearance area.
I really didn't know where to start with all the goodies that they had on clearance. That I knew I could definitely use in the future.
They had those little propane and butane cans on clearance. A four pack of propane cans were only $4.99 and the little butane cans. That just so happen to fit in one of those Stanley cook sets.
Were only $1.99 each and I picked two of those as well.
And they only had one of those Stanley cook sets on clearance for 3.50.
They had both the spray cans of Silicone Water Guard and Seam Sealer.
So of course I had to pick up four spray cans of Silicone Water Guard. And ten of the little bottles of Seam Sealer.
The spray cans of Silicone Water Guard were only $1.99 each and the Seam Sealer was only $1.00 dollar dollar each.
But, with so many different types of camping and hiking gear on clearance. Like hammocks, foldable chairs, camp soap, bug spray and lotion, and some other goodies.
I figured I had better go check out the actual camping and hiking gear section. Too see what they had to offer and I was kind of disappointed.
Because I couldn't find a decent sleeping bag that went down to 20° degrees Fahrenheit. And ended up getting a "Outdoor Products" brand 30° degree sleeping bag.
But, I was kind of surprised to see that my local Walmart store is starting to carry some better brands of camping and hiking gear and equipment.
Because like you, I ended up buying a Klymit Static-V sleeping pad, sleeping bag liner, and pillow.
As I was looking around for some other camping and hiking gear I wanted. Too go with the rest of the stuff I got from the clearance area.
I found one of those little "Ozark Trail" jet type cook stove burners. A "Outdoor Products" ploy 5' foot by 7' foot tarp. Picked up ten of the aluminum tent stakes.
And a bunch of other different types of camping and hiking gear. Too go along with everything else.
But, it was the next time I went to my local Walmart store. That I found a "Ozark Trail" brand two person tent that I think I might like better for the long haul.
Of hiking through the trails, because I usually go camping and hiking by myself.
About the only thing I don't really like about these "Ozark Trail" brand two person tent is.
That it actually weighs more than the "Ozark Trail" brand three person tent.
I think the reason behind that is that tent stakes that came with the two person tent. It came with ten of the bent steel tent stakes. That in themselves weigh a good pound of more.
But the two person tent does have something that the three person tent doesn't have.
And that is a rain fly with a vestibule, and that is what I was originally looking for in the first place.

Tents like these are okay for car camping where you can retreat back to the car, but I want aluminum poles, and a full coverage rain fly.
If you've ever been camping or backpacking, and had nasty weather roll in you will understand why.
There were some decent tents with aluminum poles on sale over memorial day for as little as $50 (normally $100).
$50 was for a tight fit 2 person backpacking tent, and 3 person were a bit more, but it's worth it in my opinion.
My 3 person tent is a previous model Kelty Grand Mesa I picked up on closeout for under $100.
Yeah, it was about 3x the price... but it will outlast one of these by several times.
That doesn't mean you can't get buy with one of these for a while, or get your feet wet camping to see if you like it.
Just be aware you might have it come down on you in the middle of the night (which happened to a reviewer with another Ozark Trail tent).
If you are going to buy aluminum poles for it, you might as well get a tent with them from the start if you can afford it.

Great review. I've had one for about 4 years. I average 3 trips a year, apx. 72 nights in this unit. While it is a great deal, there is definitely truth to this review. Warning⚠️ it is not waterproof. The bottom seam does let in water. it will also soak through the walls of the tent if exposed long enough. there's also saturating condensation if you use the rain fly. I did use waterproofing spray which did help. Also does not do well in high winds. if you're on the beach and you get a straight line wind, your tent is going to flatten sideways. tension lines do help but don't expect this thing to hold up past 15 mph. The footprint has held up but the corners where the tent pegs go in have torn, needed to be repaired. I 100% would buy for mild weather camping, first timers, kids, or car camping. #GoOutside

The tents aren't so bad however small. It says three person but the only way to put three people in it is to sleep side by side with absolutely nothing else in the tent. And don't have to get up during the night to pee you'll crawl over somebody unless you sleep in the middle. Then good luck when you get back in.

No tent in the world can handle several days of monsoon.
If it is dry through one night rain, it is OK.
For several days of crazy monsoon days and nights, just add on a tarp over it.
And dig a nice drain line(with your tiny camping shovel) around the tent to prevent sink and soak in the water overflow.
You need a tarp for hot summer days too.
The combination of tent and tarp is ideal.

I have used this tent for about 6, maybe 8 years now. Averaging 4 trips per year. Usually 2 nights 3 days in Catskills and I love it. One thing I had to do was I had to buy new aluminum poles last year. The old ones gave up. The older version (the one that I have) is built better. The tarp floor does extend a few inches onto the walls, eliminating water leaking problems, and the door has the zipper on the bottom that allows them to be open to the side. I have never used it in a very heavy rain, but I did sleep in it throughout some light rain and there was no water inside. Condensation builds up on the inside walls when the rain fly is up. Overall, it's a great tent for the money, but I wouldn't buy the new version because of the floor and the door zipper situation.

These through sleeve pole domes are clumsy, without a third snd 4th hand. Most makers have switched to just the clips.
I have a Sears two bay dome from 2004 with three main poles, two hoops for the bays and a pole for the rainfly. It is a 10 minute setup.
The bays aren't under the rainfly so they leak unless I use a tarp.

The student (young man)at Texas A&I University who bought the 7 by 7 Dome Tent from Ozark Trail. He showed me his new Dome Tent at GISP near Rockport, Texas. I said Thumb down. I refused to buy that Dome tent because I am not short man. You will know. Okay! Thanks for your time. Have a great day!

Camping doesn't mean the usage of a tent. Lame.
