    Angie I am over the moon I found a video from you earlier when I was looking for help with sublimation. I am brand new to cricut and sublimation. I bought this same printer and so far, even with the painful sublimation learning curve and learning the materials, I love the printer. This printer was as you said super easy to set up and I liked that I did not have to do any type of conversion to use it. I was weary about converting any printer and voiding the warranty so I waited until I found something I felt comfortable investing in for crafting. Your content is invaluable and I am now obsessed with watching your videos. Thank you so much.

    I got this printer several months ago, when my converted printer stopped printing. It has been great! But, I thought I'd mention/warn people. When I first got it, I did not purchase the Epson sublimation paper. I still had plenty of my previous Printer's Jack sublimation paper. That paper worked great with the converted printer, however, in this dedicated sublimation printer it had minor issues. While it was possible to make it work, the printer itself saturated the non-Epson paper. Meaning, the paper came out slightly wavy, and took forever to dry before you could actually transfer the print. Obviously you can tinker with that in the operating system's printer settings, but that's a hassle! This issue did not occur for me with the Epson branded paper, which is noticeably thicker. The Epson paper isn't the cheapest, but it is comparatively priced, so do get the Epson paper if you get this printer!

    • @binkman71
      @binkman71 Před 2 lety +1

      @@killmesoicanrespawn3775 I haven't done any of the same design with the new printer that I did with the previous converted printer. But I can say I am very happy with the colors I get from the dedicated printer and its associated inks! Particularly on photo panels -- in the printer setup dialog I pick that I am transferring to a hard surface, print, do the pressing, and the colors are great! Likewise I've done a few t-shirts (this is a hobby for me, not a business) and the colors have been equally nice. I would say, in a very unscientific way, the Epson sublimation inks might be more vivid after transferring than the previous inks (Printers Jack UV-resistant inks), particularly for photo transfers.

    I just bought the Epson SC F170 a couple of weeks ago. It was spendy, but it’s been worth it. I debated between this and the F570, but I couldn’t justify paying the price tag of the F570, especially being new to sublimation. I have a Glowforge Pro, and while it’s not a waste of money, I could have saved and went with the Basic or Plus. I’m rarely doing large projects to justify paying more for the pass through. So, I used that logic in deciding between the F170 and the F570. I did buy the Epson paper to go with it so I can’t compare it to other sublimation paper. I don’t want to do anything to void my warranty with using non Epson ink and paper. The warranty and support was one of the main reasons I went with buying an Epson F170 vice converting an Epson printer. It’s so easy to set up straight out of the box (I’m on an iMac). Just make sure you follow the instructions and download the drivers and utility. 9 times out of 10, if it’s not working it’s because you didn’t successfully download the drivers and utility. I would recommend this printer to anyone who wants a warranty/support and for anyone who isn’t really doing large projects all the time…larger than 8.5 x 14. Buy this printer first and then upgrade later on, if needed. Oh, and I forgot! You also don’t have to mirror your project in your software (I use Silhouette Studio). The printer does it automatically when it prints it out even though the preview will show it as not mirrored.

    As always, you've done a great review! I purchased my F170 about two weeks ago, and I will never go back to a converted Epson again! I have been sublimating for a long time and have converted 6 Epsons. But on this printer I have run at least 25 sheets of EasySubli through with no pinwheels, paper jams or any other problems. Totally worth it! I only wish that Epson's large format sublimation upgrade wasn't a whopping $2500! (F570) It would be nice to find some middle ground for around $1000 or so. I don't have a need (yet) to print 24" wide. Love love love my printer. The efficiency is fantastic. My ink levels have barely moved! Already paid for it with the projects I've done.

    First of all. Thank you Angie. I've been hoping you'd do one on this great printer. When I decided I wanted to get into sublimation I didn't want to spend a fortune for initial cost or supplies to keep it going. Then I found this one. I loved that it came with everything at a great price and the refill cost was low and I kept my warranty. I also got Epson's paper at the same time. I've had mine since last fall. I don't print very often but haven't had any issues with my ink drying up or requiring maintenance to use it. You can actually use paper up to a little over 40 in, I can't remember the exact length. It tells you this on Epson's site but no mention of how to do it. I did watch a video on YT from the only person that I've seen sell the 8.5 on a roll. It works really great. For Christmas I made lots of glass cutting boards, I used Inkscape and put all for on one long paper, you load it from the front. It did great. I made sure I used rigid to make sure the ink came out right. I think this is key. I've been putting off trying easi subli but after this review, I'm going to try it, I already have it. This printer is great. I love your tutorials so much

      @@AngieHolden I'm surprised Epson doesn't have anything on it or what paper to use. It does show you can print the long sheets but that's it. I can give you my source. She has a video to show that all printers can print up to the 42. I ordered her paper, it came really quickly. It did a good job of printing as well. I liked that I could do multiple jobs on one long sheet which saved me time. I do a print preview to make sure it all will print the way I think. @@AngieHolden What I did is cut the paper to the size I wanted. The longest was the 47 but I didn't try to be exact because I could just put more designs on it. Then you have to load it through the paper tray, put it in as far as it goes, then push the paper tray in and it'll find the paper. In your settings you can set it to what you want. What I did was set my settings, size, rigid, mirror, on or off plus I set the print preview, especially when doing multiple designs on one sheet. Then save it, name it. The next time you need the same settings, you can pull that up and its already set. I hope this helps. Let me know if it didn't make since.

      The issue I had with the paper is that the colors for the same design were more muted with the epson paper and I don’t like that the epson paper doesn’t have writing on the back so it’s hard to see which side to print on. One side is white and the other is a pale yellow it’s very similar, with Asub paper u know which side to use. Other then that I truly love the epson F170 I just wished I had saved enough for the bigger printer. But I make due with slicing to make bigger designs.

      I only use the Epson sublimation paper in mine and I’ve had zero issues (unless I’m printing on something that’s not coated for sublimation). I did buy some A-Sub paper as backup since I can’t buy the Epson sublimation paper on Amazon. But, I haven’t had to use the A-Sub yet. I love how compact this printer is (I haven’t had a need to print larger than 8.5 x 14 yet). I do agree that I had a hard time figuring out how to load the paper in the printer (which side goes up/down) and I had to research it. I was told that it’s because the Epson sublimation paper is a multi-use paper vice other sublimation papers that are just designated for sublimation only. I don’t know how accurate that is though.
