    Pretty sure you just fixed the same issue on my '01 Jimmy... Thanks for the vid!! I was getting ready to buy new plugs, wires, cap & rotor hoping it would solve my issue (it still needs them, but it probably wouldn't have solved it & I would have driven it off a cliff because I am tired of sinking money into it.) :)
    I work at a different auto parts store... Same issues with the bad box & used parts sometimes making it out. We are supposed to check returns at the time of return. You don't take the cutomer's word for it that it has not been installed / used. Also ~ the warehouse is supposed to check returns that we send them, especially if they are being returned as "new"... We get boxes that look like that one from our warehouse!! I always check the part if I come across one. Basically it is told that "well, you don't install the box!" ugh. No, but it is pretty crappy to hand a beat up box to a customer... doesn't help their confidence in the quality, even if the part inside is fine. Usually it is one of the last ones on the shelf in the warehouse though, so getting another one may take longer, if it is even still available. We can only do so much. Which is why I check the part & usually ask the customer to look it over in front of me, just to be sure it passes their inspection too. Apologize for the crap packaging & move on.

    Hello Eric, Thank you so much for this video. I had the same exact problem with a 2002 Chevy Silverado I bought used a few months ago except mine was an intermittent problem as that last little bit of spark at the end of the crank cycle was enough to start the truck....but only when it was warm, as it got colder I would have to crank it for numerous short bursts until it could fire with that tiny amount of spark on its last 1/4 turn. It took awhile of checking things until I realized the motor would only start as I disengaged the starter. From there I was lucky enough to find your site and search my problem. I couldn't find a wiring diagram for my Silverado but took a chance on the ECM1 circuit and it was the same as the Gimmy. For anyone else out there with a similar problem don't let the hot start cold no-start thing throw you because it still could be the ignition switch. Eric you have a great selection of help videos and do a great job of teaching. Cheers to you!
    Dean

    Great to see how you diagnose starting trouble. In India they will not do this, will ask us to replace parts without any genuine evidence.Once my old 2007 model Suzuki broken down, on the next day, after regular service.
    On-road assistance guy came and told the car need multiple part replacements, including alternator. Finally he figured out it is a loose contact in a particular switch. That guy did that fixing by trial and error and I have not replaced anything in contrast to his initial conclusion on part replacements. While I questioned him earlier how he had concluded car needs part replacement he is unable to answer me.

Yes, some of us have had it happen. It's so cool to watch you eliminate the many various parts as the possible culprit and zero in on what the main problem was.

    Thank you so much! I'm 95% sure this is exactly what's going on with my 1998 Chevy S10. I've been noticing the last month or so the engine starting when I let off the key most of the time. So when I saw your video and the same thing I was for sure that was the problem. So I had my wife come Al and start my truck while I tested the fuse but... The truck turned over no problem.REALLY!?! I did remove that fuse and reinserted before I had my wife crank it over so I'm not sure if that helped the issue. Guess I'm going to wait to see if it stops working again. But thanks so much for your work

    Hey! Love your videos Eric, I just wanted to stop in and say although my Blazer doesnt have this exact problem. I have some electrical issues causing the key to get stuck in and in order to diagnose I have been looking for the best way to access connector C211 (the one in this video), so thanks for showing where it was thats an awsome help!

    well that brings the WTF to the fore!! i started in retail auto parts including various dealerships . i realize i am seeing this 4 years on, but, holy thunder, the gall to ship THAT.

      My daughter works at a large manufacturer's industrial facility in inventory control. Their retail sales people are under strict instructions to not accept return parts and credit the customer until the shop has actually looked at the return parts. Why? Because previously certain customers were in the habit of returning their defective used parts for a credit which were then put back into inventory and resold only to have the new customer who then returned it again because it doesn't work. Customers who are caught returning used parts are not given credit unless it can be used as a rebuild core. The things people do...........

    Fantastic diagnosis and explanation! The test light is probably the most under-rated tool for electrical diagnostics, especially no-starts. Just did an intermittent no-crank on a 2001 Blazer the other day; turns out it was the starter solenoid sticking when hot. Have you watched ScannerDanner's vids on electrical troubleshooting? Kind of jealous of that Verus...have you used the built-in oscilloscope much? Looking forward to more troubleshooting vids!

      You are right, the test light is a wonderful tool when used properly and under appreciated. I use the scope often, it's in a lot of my videos. I do watch Paul Danners channel on occasion. Lots of great info out there that's for sure.

    With great regret I sold many boxes like that to shops when I was the Commercial Pro for Advance. But I always checked the boxes to make sure they were not used or damaged parts.

    • @SouthMainAuto
      @SouthMainAuto  Před 9 lety

      Eric Brunhammer Well I usually don't judge the part by the box cuz I have seen how they ship them to the stores... Jamb parts in crates, well you know you worked there

    Hi South Main, very interesting video on fixing a Jimmy!...nevertheless i got a kind of challenge if u like those....am from Chile Southamerica and I got a 2.4L brazilian version of a GM blazer with a brand new ignition switch; I sent the ECM to an electronic to remove the immobilizer and it was verified according to a scanner the correct functioning of it without connecting it to the vehicle (I live far away from tech), I did connect it and was cranking but no start no pump running, I sat a relay directly from computer signal (I have the electronic schematics) to run the pump and made it run during the lapsus time before the crank and checked the oil pressure sensor see if was giving the current to the pump right after crank and it was so, I checked the AC from crankshaft positioning sensor and it gives 5 volts and is ok so it cranks but no start, I checked the number 1 and 20 wires going from ECM to ignition coil and guess what.....as long as it is disconnected from coil it gives a reading of 12v -polarity, I set in start (no crank) still having 12v-polarity, I do crank it and start pulsing according to a lamp test so it says that crankshaft sensor, it is giving signal to the way out from 1 and 20 to the coil but everything is lost as soon as I reconnect the famous ignition coil....any idea why? I can send you the schematics if it calls your attention(by the way i brought the positive wire directly from the same fuse to the positive connection in the coil)

    On a Chevy Astro, if it won't start on rainy days, run a ground wire from the coil body to a cast iron ground or to the battery. Put sealer under the distributor cap to seal the distributor. Replace the distributor cap and rotor and coil and module.

    awesome video. i'm not a mechanic, but i do like to attempt repairs myself. i never would have thought about feeding the 12 volts through the fuse like you did.

    • @SouthMainAuto
      @SouthMainAuto  Před 9 lety +1

      As long as you put it on the right side of the fuse you won't have a problem.
