followed your instructions to the letter and not only did I accomplish it, you helped me save almost $500 by doing it myself! Thank you so much for your video
Thanks for watchin, i really appreciate the positive feed back
How did you get the dual thermostats out of the thermostat housing? Was it difficult? Thanks for any feedback!
Nope just slapped them in a vise and a pair of pliers
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod thanks!!!
Nice! I get to do this job in the morning...and it's SO nice to see what I'm in for before jumping in and faking it. Thanks again for posting this.
Recoil Rob no sweat guy!!!
Right into the bed of coolant lol same darn thing happen to me!! Thanx so much BRO!! KEEP THE 6.4 VIDEOS COMING BROTHER..
👍👍👌👌
Wow, you have some serious patience to accomplish that task. I would have used my entire vocabulary of filthy words, threw a tantrum on the floor, broke out the roll away and threw every tool I owned at that truck. Makes me wonder when I will have to face this. Sure love the instant power of these motors though.
Thanks
Great Lakes ......Great Times!! Thanks for the video, very informative!
6 bolts, 3 hoses and out comes the battery box and radiator overflow reservoir for large handed people like me. The plus is a clear sight of that Exhaust Backpressure Sensor that tube that will make you spend a fortune figuring out your 6.4's loss of power.
Great Video .. deep , hard
to reach places ... like the
long special Tools for the
6.4 thk you ..
Good video thanks for explaining what to look for thanks
Alot of work to change the thermostat , great video.
first timer.
I'm real handy with anything 6.0.
first 6.4 I've had at my shop
I'll never buy a FORD diesel again
thank you very much. I followed your recommendations and it was very easy. thanks again
Luis Perez im so glad it worked out for you!!!!!
That engines massive.
+Mike McGuire that aint shit, way more shit on a 6.7 powerstroke
I really enjoy these video's. learn alot. BUT why would any one buy one of these engines. what were the enginers thinking when designing this motor.
They run great when taken care of properly. A pain to work on but in my opinion they are great motors
As Andrew stated, the motors aren't junk by any stretch of the imagination. The 3 things that will indeed kill these things in a hurry are.....
Lack of maintenance
Emissions
Throwing a 300hp tune on with no supporting mods and driving it like a 16 year old kid in a honda civic with a wing and 12 inch fart pipe.
Emissions gots to go..... IMMEDIATELY
Maintenance (mainly fuel) will save you $10k+ catastrophe
I'll take a K16 pump over a CP4 any day of the week though.
Run a good fuel additive as well. I've not had a failure with either of my K16's running motorcraft, and I run hotshots secret EDT when I can pick it up on sale.
Oil changes are important, especially with emissions on.
I barely trust 5k mile intervals using Rotella TY with the emissions still live.
I change mine at 5k religiously without emissions.
Blackstone reports I've done show I can go well past 10k, but I have trust issues.
Anyhow, I still enjoy my 6.4's over 10 years later. Delete, Monitor, Maintain, and be realistic on the tuning and driving style. While I say that...... I don't mean baby it and use it to grocery get and back. That's not good on any modern diesel either.
Anyhow..... Didn't mean to type so much...... Y'all take care 👍
just watching you do this hurt my back an got me frustrated! why does it have to be this dang hard! ugh!!!!!!!! ty but imma see how much they charge lol
I think I'll just hire this one out. LOL
Russell Hillis lol hahah no sweat
I’ve got an 08 6.4 the green wrench will come on on long highway trips the go off when truck cools. I can’t get a code off of it. I know for sure my Tstat is stuck open. My deltas at 70 mph for an hour or so are averaging 18-20 with no green wrench. Oil cooler changeout? Like I said no codes and don’t take any long trips just around town to work and back mostly. Thanks in advance!
Could be a bunch of things, pull codes while wrench light is on, dont shut it off
Ok thanks for the quick response!
Yepp, u bet
Great video. I have a 08 550 with the 6.4. My temperature gauge barely moves if any during normal driving. Hook the dump trailer up and pull a load and it’ll move up a little bit. No lights on. Could this be the thermostat or what’s your opinion? Thank you.
For sure
Same here! Im about to jump in it. I aint got no heat hardley and its getting cold here in Georgia finally.
Thx for this video...almost had it in but after inserting and removing multiple times trying to get the flange and thermostat housing bolt "half holes" to line up, the flange is now firmly cockeyed onto the housing and won't go either way. I am so angry I am not sure I could ever purchase a Ford product again. Proceeding to remove the EGR cooler now...and of course it has some kind of bizzare bolt on in. Engineers at Ford are sadists. Screw them.
So what type of 12 sided bolt is that?
hhh man your so funny. awesome job man.
its a pain in the ass I am working on one right now hhh. thanks for the guiding
Thanks 4 stoppin by!!
So upper radiator hose is hot and the bottom radiator hose is cold, top end of the motors been rebuilt along with new radiator, water pump, and clutch fan but still having an overheating issue with my ‘08 6.4 with 110k miles on it, could there be an air pocket somewhere and is there a coolant drain plug to see about purging the air out of the cooling system?
No air pocket, and no purge process
Same problem returned after 8 months or so.
I’m having a problem of getting the top left bolt out, egr cooler seems to be in the way. Any suggestions?
None, you follow the video, shld come right out.....do em all the time. Now dont go a hackin'....
If the coolers and egr aren't present..... The job becomes roughly 300% easier. The Truck will thank it's owner as well..... no longer will it have to re-breathe it's own farts. (In layman's terms)
Just throwing that out there. 🤣
Is that considered cheating/hacking?
Guilty I suppose.
It's a tedious process for sure with emissions on. I think they simply Crammed everything they could think of, whether necessary or not, into that compartment. It was the successful transition into non DIY friendly. Lol!
I digress....
Take care y'all
Child's play
is this whats causing me to go into "limp mode"? (reduced engine power) after it warms up in about 15 miles?
MOST likely NOT...
P0128 code has never caused limp mode in my experience. It could be a compound of issues however.
Trans Temp on the other hand, will throw it into limp and keep the truck from shifting out of 3rd. They're notorious for it. Did you have it scanned and figure it out?
Yes P0128 will cause a derate concern....
Amazing work!! Amazing quality!! Thank you so much. You just saved me $400 on labor. I wanna change my radiator too, do you have any videos for that? Thanks
+Talal Rehan no i dont but u can private message me n we can talk
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod good afternoon. My 6.4l f550 is overheating only when driving. Idling it runs cool. Never overheats. I changed both thermostats bc coolant is not circulating. After replacing them im still having the same issue. Coolant hoses are under pressure but still no circulation of coolant. Fan clutch seems to be working just fine. Any ideas of what else it could be?
Fan clutch probably. Need to get a scan tool on it & monitor FAN_SS
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod I really appreciate u responding!!! Ur videos are great!! Will the fan clutch keep the coolant from circulating?
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod the coolant never circulates. Hoses just build pressure
Would it be easier to take off the degas bottle so you get direct access
I mean if you want to. Not really gon a help
Does bad thermostats mess up the air heater ??
The air heater....???
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod yes, like the warm pot for cold weathers inside the truck?
🤦♂️🤦♂️
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod thanks
Is there any angel you have to do to take the upper thermostat bolts. I can't get the proper angle. ? Could i use a flexible tool.
+Noe Salgado yea you gotta use a wobble, a universal, 1 of them
Hi can i drive my f450 diesel truck 6.4 with out termosyast
Termostat
It probably wouldnt be good
WHY ARE THERE TWO OF THEM?
Hi temp, low temp....emissions brotha
Once I'm done with the job will the fault clear out on it's own?
+Calixto Escobar no
riggamaroo imma have to undo lol
Rennis Henry lolololol
Ugh... Not looking forward to this... Who ever thought this was a good idea? Thermostats are a common fail point.
Could not agree more.
what's the flat rate on this job?
Tim Henry for me or a first timer
For you?
If I was to take this into a Ford Dealer, how much would I expect to spend
+Montie T parts, labor, tax $450-$600 usually. All depends on that shops labor rate. 80-100 cld be as high as 150 an hr.
I was quoted $362
Hope they fixed it.
What a pain in the ass!
Throwing the thermostat is it better for coolant to pass by bent up or is that job security.. either way wouldn’t get my business...
need a new camera man sorry
2010 over heated on beach 4x4 low did fine all the way home 3 hours, both coolant and oil hit 270, fully deleted truck never had this problembefore, fan runs when I start truck somebody said Dan clutch but it seems fine? Any ideas ?
Dang sounds like a plugged oil cooler, but then again im not there....
Im having same issue. Asside from over heating. I turn in and the fan is engauged.
I had oil Temps in the 280 range deleted, installed the bpd oil cooler half kit, fixed my high oil temps.
Fkn ford just to replace a thermostat
Way too much fucking shit (sorry Fred) for 2 thermostats..
6 hours labor and it decides to leak the FU**** Sh** again!!!! 😡😡😡
Damn.....sry broski
Crack on the engine block you with what for the repaired
