Oh please. Being a real polyglot - it is confidently know every language at a confirmed level not less than B1. Three weeks learned Vietnamese? No, man, you don’t speak Vietnamese, you just picked up basic phrases and simple sentences. To know a language is not only to be able to say "Hi, how are you?" but also to read articles, books, watch movies, use extensive vocabulary in speech.
What they’re doing is more of a hobby, a pastime. Like, this month I’m learning Portuguese, then Italian, then Chinese. No, friends, you’re not polyglots, you’re just nice people who pick up the top of every language and pretend to "speak" so many languages. No, it’s not like that. I know four of the languages they use at the B2 level, and I can tell you that the level of some of the languages they use is unlikely to be confirmed by an A1 test.

However we must understand that she's 14 years old and speaks so many languages. She's doing way more than great. Besides, we mustn't forget that she's still learning, so it's ok to make mistakes.

Learning languages is a process that never ends, it has no end. Mistakes are and always will be made, even if the person has already learned the language.
This is something that most people do not understand.
*All Russian speakers who live in Spain and who have not grown up here after many years of living in Spain still make lots of mistakes in Spanish.
(I say Russian speakers as I can say Lithuanians, Moroccans, Romanians, etc).
On the other hand, knowing a language does not mean that we have to speak it as well as native speakers for a simple reason:
We are NOT native speakers, so for obvious reasons native speakers know their mother tongue(s) much better than us.
So, we should not be so demanding with those who decide to learn our mother tongue(s).
We can not pretend others to know our mother tongue(s) as well as us.

I'm fascinated and I have so many questions! I'd love Cameron to explain how she approaches a new language: do you cover vocabulary first? how do you teach yourself grammar? I'm an English teacher and I know what it takes to learn (and teach) a language...Having a friend who's a native speaker of the language you learn is not enough - you need to know the rules and how to teach them. In addition, if you wish to master 20+ languages, and given that you have only 24 hours a day (including sleep time), that leaves you with couple of minutes for each language... So how do you do it? What is your method? (I guess that you've improved your methods from the first language you started with till the more recent ones...)

By reading the comments a lot of different native speakers mentioned that for example her japanese, french, arabic, ect. is not realy good. I mean saying "hi, my name is" and "how is the wather" is not really speaking a foreign language isnt it?
As a german native speaking human on this planet i can say that its the same with her german. So although i think that she is brilliant at 14 in my opinion she is only speaking spanish at a decent level. Please correct me if i am wrong but if she wants a job in translating (mentioning at 14:37) earning a lot of money she clearly has to improve some of those and not learn like 5 sentences in another languages and consider it as " i can speak 22 languages now".

I'm a native Russian and her Russian is non existent, it's a lot worse than her German. She can't even say the word "music" in Russian which sounds very similar in many languages. I'm not even talking about forming sentences. If I don't know she's trying to speak Russian, I wouldn't know. You can't say "저는 한국어를 조금 입니다" because the verb 입니다 in Korean means "to be", so if you speak like that, it literally means "i am a little bit Korean language"(yeah, it sounds strange 😂😅). You can say "한국어를 조금 할 수 있어요!" or it is even better to say "한국어를 잘못해요" (which means "i can't speak korean well). You also don't need to say always "저는", you can avoid to repeat it~ This is my advice, hope to see your progress in Korean and Chinese 😄 화이팅!

He's tried Polish. He doesn't know almost any of the languages he professes to know. I used to be impressed, but actually coming into contact with people who spoke the languages that they claim to speak and seeing how they react is a different story. I already knew that his Russian was bad (not to mention his Ukrainian), but how he can make these claims when actual native speakers of most of the other languages have already noted the numerous problems they have when speaking any language aside from their native tongue and/or English is absurd. If he so wishes to learn a language, he should give an actual effort and the time necessary. It is disingenuous otherwise. It also speaks of his inherent dishonesty and proclivity to lie. I know I sound like nay-sayer, and that really is what I am, I suppose, but I only say so with the best intentions to warn you of this guy.

Is a basis of 300 words (so-called BASIC) enough to be a polyglot? Me encanta la musica espanol, tambien se unas 500 palabras en espanol, soy poliglota? Сok dilli miyim ben? Wouter speak indonesian very well.
Even for word "karena" He prounonces it like native: "karna".
    Btw, some tips:
Instead using "bahwa" (that) , in that contex of your sentence, you can also use "kalau" (if).
The word "bahwa" is a little bit sound to formal, in everyday conversation, "kalau" Is more natural.
These 2 words, in DAILY spoken language has the same (equivalent) meaning, your partner would understand what you meant (depending on the context of the conversation)
But in written form, sometimes you can find both words interchangeable, but sometimes the meaning can be ambiguous between "that" or "if".
But sometimes is not ambigous , if the context is well written.
Also in speech, "Bahwa" and "Kalau" in that context, just like in the written form.
But "bahwa" Is more formal in its sense.
The audience would be hear the speech so formal if you use word "bahwa".

12:48 actually, Japanese pronunciation isn’t relatively flat. Rather than it having tonal pronunciation, it’s spoken with with pitch/intonation.

If your language learning goal is to focus on quantity rather than quality, by all means, go for it. But it's misleading clickbait to say that you "speak" 21 languages when you can really only say a few phrases. I don't mean to criticize her particularly, I'm just trying to comment on the CZcams "He SpEAkS 487 LaNGuAGeS" phenomenon. I would say that for people who don't have language learning experience, the definition of "speak" would be something close to "can communicate effectively amongst a wide range of topics." When you spread yourself so thin among an absurd amount of languages, your pronunciation, grammar, general ability to communicate effectively will suffer. Again, if you are satisfied knowing just a bit of 20 languages, be my guest! But don't misconstrue the learning process for others. Rant *over*

He's really trying to make people believe, that he speaks more than MAYBE 3 languages (and he does it in a VERY miserable way). I have to say, that his Russian is so bad, that my ears are literally BLEEDING. Btw. I don't think that his goal is to truly "speak" those languages, he just wants to lie to people to get some popularity and profit from it financially. Very, very sad, and also cringey af. He can't even translate his own sentences correctly LMAO

I think as a Chinese learner the Chinese is the one that really gets to me…it’s just hard to listen to. And they really stretch the definition of “speak” lol, in most languages they really only know basic greetings, “I like ____”, “I want to improve this language” 😂 I don’t mean to hate I just feel cringey

@@polywerden The way she said Japanese is flat got to me. Mostly because it's a repeated myth that gets thrown around and ends up misleading less experienced learners.

i wish she would stop using youtube polygots as an example for herself and focus on fewer languages because ive showed this video to multiple friends who speak arabic, japanese, korean, vietnamese and most of this is not legit😭. their german is great and her spanish is very good though apparently. maybe its because they're the easiest for english speakers to learn? 🤔
i speak hindi and french and you can't call that fluency by a long shot. like i could not understand that hindi if i tried my very best. i dont understand why you have to get this surface level understanding in 20+ languages just to say you have that understanding. its sooo much more impressive if you can be fluent in less languages. wouter is really spreading a harmful jack of all trades master of none narrative. people who dont speak these languages just can't tell, so they go wow!! this is amazing!
it is still EXTREMELY impressive that this girl is speaking even moderate amounts of so many languages, but it just feels wrong that shes going down the wouter path of "20 DOLLARS IF I CANT SPEAK YOUR LANGUAGE" and then says 4 sentences in the language
what ive noticed is in all of these languages they can only repeat basic phrases about how they have friends from different countries. ive also noticed that they NEVER use any tense other than present?? that isnt even *semi* fluent
