    If you install the seal into the aluminum housing first and then push the assembly onto the crank using the supplied plastic seal protector wouldn't that automatically center the seal and housing onto the crankshaft? Then gradually tighten up the bolts a couple threads at a time.

    How do I buy or order your alignment tool? Also, the factory manual states the seal should be installed dry and only use small amount of soapy water between the seal and the crank to help on the installation.

    You can preinstall seal into housing and slide it into crankshaft, or you can install housing with gasket and silicone, but just snug the bolts without fully tightening them. Same with oil pan bolts. Grab your seal with the plastic guide and slide it onto crankshaft by hand. Grab the installation ring that comes with the seal and set it in place over the seal. Now grab the flexplate retainer ring and set it over the tool, run each flywheel bolt and tighten then carefully in a star pattern until the ring pushes the seal tool evenly to proper depth. Remove all flywheel bolts and ring and you got your seal installed and aligned. Now tighten all the housing 8mms and the oil pan 10mms. Check your flywheel for cracks before installing it back on the crank.

    Do a video on the rear camshaft welch plug. Curious on the removal and instal technique you use.

    Mine had a little metal plate. Does it go in front or back of the housing?

    I'm looking for a rear main oil seal for a Ford super duty truck engine. It's a 401 cu in from the 401, 477, 534 engine family, which was produced from 1959 to 1981, and used in larger Ford trucks (800 & 850 series) as well as certain Chris-Craft marine applications. Original seal is the rope type and I'm wondering if anyone knows of a newer neoprene type seal that would fit. Many older engines are being fitted with newer seals.

      Buy the seal kit from Cummins, comes with the RMS and the install tool, as well as a plastic insert to help keep the seal's shape while installing over the crank.

      After getting the gasket kit. It comes with the setting ring (metal) and alignment ring (plastic). So the kit has what you need to set the seal.

      Although his machined setting tool is much nicer than the one that comes in the kit.

    I recommend you don’t use silicone at all. Use a urethane based sealant like “right stuff” black if you don’t want it to leak. Silicone is for girls toys. 😅

    want an installer. where can I buy it?

    • @redgreenfan5
      @redgreenfan5 Před 7 lety +3

      xAZPUNKSTERx Don't waste your money. Buy the Cummins seal kit. It comes with an instillation tool. You can take the housing off and set the seal depth with the tool then put the housing on with the seal installed. Also there is a plastic insert in the seal when you get it, leave it in there until the seal is over the crank. Lastly the seal is meant to be installed dry.

    • @xAZPUNKSTERx
      @xAZPUNKSTERx Před 7 lety +2

      Justin Martin I thought the main concern with installing the seal is to have the house perfectly aligned. I have the cummins seal ordered with the steel ring. Just pound the damn seal in and shove the housing on crank?

    • @awashbowler
      @awashbowler Před 5 lety +3

      @@xAZPUNKSTERx yup, the seal will center the housing onto the crankshaft itself. There is no need to go through all the extra alignment BS he showed.
