3:03 good to see the evening Northerner Express passenger train! That commentator wasn't entirely accurate, a fully laden Northerner could be built up to 16 total if you count the FP-class (ex-Z-class) bogie postal wagons and ZP-class bogie parcels wagons. Thank you, Zane for uploading this piece of NZR history!

Enjoyed the video. Recognised 4 crew of Ja 1250 from the GVR. Could even be me in the last 15 seconds of film.

Thanks for posting this. Haven’t seen this for years. Still surprised about the number of mistakes in it.

The north island main trunk line was completed in 1908. 100 years on from then would be 2008. When was this steam train footage recorded? It sure as shit wasn't 2008 because it doesn't show any of the electrification of the line between Hamilton and Palmerston North.
If you look at many of the cars following the train, they look really old from the 1970s.

Well if you had watched the video, you would have found the answers, the turning of the 1st sod was performed at Puniu in 1885, thats when Maori chiefs gave permission for the railway to enter the king country, the excursion in the video is celebrating 100 years later the turning of the first sod, the excursion was run in April 1985, the NIMT opened in November 1908 and it's 100 year anniversary was celebrated in 2008, i suggest @stuboyd1194, that you go do some research stupid boy.
