I was watching an interview with Sam Brown (the blonde backup singer). They asked her how wild the band were on tour, she said it was like touring with a group of forensic accountants, all very serious and just focused on giving their professional best to the music.

They were nothing if not perfectionists and masters of their craft. For the most part they never went in for the crazy rock and roll partying scene. Never read about them in the papers and gossip rags until they had an album coming out. They rarely did interviews or appeared on television. When they were at the height of their popularity in the mid-70s most of their fans didn't even know what they looked like. They were probably the most anonymous internationally famous supergroup that there ever was.

@@kevanbodsworth9868 also even up through their last two tours in 1988, and 94, they never displayed their own images on the iconic big circular screen behind them. They preferred to be shrouded in darkness and smoke as they played.. all in the belief that it was more about the music than it was about them. I attended both the 1988 and 94 tours. Unless you brought binoculars, as I did, you never got one single close-up of them. Probably one of the reasons the Pulse video has become so popular... A well directed professional recording of this legendary band doing what they do better than almost anyone.

You're right regarding witnessing this concert live because they utilized 98 million dollars worth of lighting & sound equipment in 1994 money!!! They push 233,000 watts of power through speakers that were on the stage behind the audience on both sides of the audience and above the audience which basically put you inside a giant set of headphones!! Nobody has ever put together a better sound system than Pink Floyd live!!! I've seen them live four times in three different decades and I've seen 100 concerts from ACDC to led Zeppelin and everyone in between alphabetically and nobody has ever put on a better show than Floyd!!!!!
And with the sound they only turned it up a little over halfway so there was absolutely no distortion but it was still beyond description powerful!!

    • @flubblert
      @flubblert Před měsícem +4

The extraordinary effects of that quad surround sound speaker setup was an experience all by itself. Voices and whispers you hear on "Dark Side of the Moon" for instance seem to be coming from right over your shoulder at times. And I was in the mezzanine section at Soldier Field. Downright eerie.

I was born in '75 and raised on classic rock and Motown.
I missed the greatest generation in rock. I never got to see Jimi or Janice. CCR was long gone.
But somehow, in the summer of '94, at 19yo, I was blessed to witness the Pulse tour. And I am content.
I am eternally grateful that this concert was captured for posterity, and that I can briefly be 19 again forever.

Great reaction, no interruptions to the solos, no waffling on forever, just great to watch you react to this phenomenal piece of work. This was recorded live at Earls Court, London, which has a capacity of 20,000 people - and they filled it for fourteen nights in a row, that's 280,000 people that saw it over two weeks in London. I saw them 20 years earlier at the same venue when they were promoting Dark Side of the Moon.

Pink Floyd doesn’t produce songs, they produce albums.
The best way to experience Pink Floyd is to find a quiet space, lock the door, put your headphones on and listen to the whole album from start to finish without any interruptions or distractions, just let it take you to wherever in your own mind it does……every song on their albums just blends into each other, often following the story from one song to the next.
Start with their album ‘Dark Side of the Moon’……it’s always a good one to start your with, then move onto some of their other studio albums. Pulse is an incredible album, but with it being a ‘Live’ album doesn’t have the story flow as their studio albums…..

Thank you so much for reacting to this. I was in high school here in North Carolina when this song first came out in 1979. I remember it well. My girlfriend and I at the time loved attending concerts. It was one of the things we loved doing together. My wife loved concerts as well during that time. There were a huge number of wonderful groups at the time and concerts were not very expensive to attend. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Triumph, 38 Special, Foreigner, and many others. I can not describe to you what a wonderful time it was to be young then. We were happier, relationships were closer, life was more carefree, and the music was spectacular. My heart just aches that young people will not get to experience life as we did as teenagers in the 70’s/80’s. Again, thank you so much for posting this video. It was a wonderful treat.

People argue as to who was the best guitarist ever. I don’t really understand when each guitarist brings his own style and tone. They are each fantastic in their own way. David Gilmour doesn’t play fast. He doesn't play with technicality to a great degree. He does play with emotion. He is unique in that conveying emotion through music is a real talent. Not many can do it consistently. Gilmour does this with regularity. To me, he is a genius.

Excellent reaction. I've been listening to Pink Floyd since about 1972, and have always admired their ability to speak directly to the souls of their audience. I was lucky enough to meet their drummer, Nick Mason, a couple of times when working on a BBC project, but evidently, the rest of the band are as down to earth and matter of fact about their mythical status as he was. At one of the events, at Abbey Road (yes, I know, name-drop central), I gave him a hand to take his kit out to his car and carried the snare he was using, very carefully indeed, as it carried the logo from the Dark Side of the Moon, and was part of the original 'branded' kit he used on the tour. He just casually put it on top of the cymbal stands on the back seat of the car... No case... I wonder how much that would fetch at auction?

Love and warm regards from Cologne Germany. I saw the concert 1994 in Rome Italy. Here any facts to the Tour: The concerts of the "DIVISION BELL TOUR" PULSE featured even more special effects ( On the day of the concerts, the airspace above the respective city was closed for several hours for safety reasons due to the laser show !!! ) than the previous tour of even other bands and artist tours ever and it was in 1994, including two custom designed airships. They also used an Antonov military cargo plane plus 2 x cargo Boeing 747s. 3 seperate stages leapfrogged around North America and Europe, each of that stages 180 feet (55 m) long and featuring a 130 foot (40 m) arch resembling the Hollywood Bowl venue. One stage in use, one being dismantled from the previous venue and one being set up at the next. They need 3-4 days to building on stage up 3 days for re-building.When Pink Floyd performed this in the US, they traveled with 4 48' military grade mobile generators. 1994 there wasn't a stadium built with enough electrical input to run the Pink Floyd show. That was also new for the American´s. The US Army said: "Ok, that´s cool project and makeable for us - let´s do it for the american audience - But we are always there! Is that understood and clear!?" - Answer Gilmour: "Yes Sir it is clear, thanks a lot, then let´s go. You will not regret it". I Think they don´t regret it. That's what happens when you forget to give a budget figure to your lighting effects designer. That sound comes from a 220,000 watt sound system. The glitter ball from "Comfortably Numb" was over 15ft (4,6 m) in diameter, and the lasers were a new experimental design, and Pink Floyd cornered the entire world's supply at the time. All in all, the tour required 700 tons of steel carried by 53 articulated trucks, a crew of 161 people and an initial investment of US$ 4 million plus US$ 25 million of running costs just to stage. This tour played to 5.5 million people in 68 cities; each concert gathered an average audience of more then 45,000. In summary, it is the most elaborate live tour project of all times to date. The planning alone took 3 years. The tour (not the planning) was sponsored by Volkswagen.

For those of us who saw the '87/'88 tour. The circle was the only feature (no bandshell) they did have flying light assemblies, and the pig was WAY better (lol). But the circle never moved. Then in '94, with the bandshell, the circle was still the main show, but it occasionally disappeared behind the stage. Then, in this song, for the first time... the circle rotated down to focus on Gilmore. The previous tour also had a disco ball, but it was smaller, opened differently, and did not come from the same place.
I REALLY wish someone would do the whole concert, instead of jumping to the encores.

All these concerts were for charity and pink Floyd didn't take a penny. Plus you had to be there as TV doesn't do it justice amazing. The best concert I have had the pleasure to attend and I have been to loads of them.

I consider myself so incredibly fortunate that I was able to see a show on this tour (Columbus, Ohio, in May 1994). I'll never forget it!

So now that you've seen this, check out the finale from this show. Run Like Hell. It follows this song and you'll see why it's the finale. You'll see.

Well, I was there. It was the most amazing concert I had ever seen, and the best I will probably ever see. In fact, I pretty much gave up seeing live bands after Pulse. It was the very last word in live performances.
Thanks for a great reaction and I'm glad you enjoyed it! One thing you don't get from the video is Pink Floyd's incredible surround sound, which had the sound completely filling and moving all around Earl's Court. Amazing sound - I can't imagine ever hearing better at a live concert.

I had the chance to see this show two nights in a row during their visit to the Olympic Stadium in Montreal on May 23 and 24, 1994.
Since I worked night shifts, I had to go to work after the show, and the buddies at work looked at me like I was high on drugs, yet I hadn't taken anything.
With Pink Floyd, no need for drugs to get high, their music is more than enough and in addition, there is no danger of overdose.
But seeing them performing live can become addictive, hence the reason for seeing this show twice.

Saw em 4 times starting in 73. Tripping every time. The circular "screen" has been in every concert since 73 anyway. I was 13. No adult supervision.
