    When overwintering the large leaved herbaceous salvias, I usually bring them into the greenhouse for the winter, although we rarely get very heavy frosts (Hampshire). My ‘Amistad’ usually make it, but I lost 2 ‘Love & Wishes’ in a mild winter. Would it help to cut the plant down to 6-8”, mulch then cover with a clay pot for extra protection?

      Hello Hilshils - thank you for watching our video and for your comment 💚yes that would help and take cuttings from the bits you cut off and overwinter in your greenhouse as an insurance policy Have a great rest of the week All the best John and Melanie 🌸

    Any suggestion for how to overwinter Salvia greggii indoors? I live in a climate that too cold for a Salvia greggii to survive outdoors in winder.

      Hello Elaine - thank you for watching our video and for your comment. Is your salvia not hardy? If not, it would be best to get it indoors for the Winter or if you cannot do that covering it with horticultural fleece will help. Here is a link to buying horticultural fleece if this is helpful amzn.to/3cKMgF6. As Amazon Associates we may receive a small qualifying commission if you choose to buy, but it will not affect the price you pay. We hope this helps All the best 🌸

    Which grow zone are you based at? I'm in Zone 9. I assume I can follow the same instructions? Cutting 1/3 during winter, and once again in spring time?

      @JohnHorseyHorticulture  Před 2 lety

      Hello Xinyu Qian - thank you for watching and for your question - we are in the SW of the UK and “Hot Lips” is generally hardy but won’t really survive long periods of -5C but yes do follow the same instructions All the best 🌸

    Please could you tell me how to take a cutting from a Salvia Hot Lips? I had one a couple of years ago but it didn’t survive over winter (I live in Yorkshire!!) however, my neighbour has got a beauty and I’d like to take a cutting before he cuts it back. Is this possible at this time of year?

    • @JohnHorseyHorticulture

      Hello 🌸 Thank you for watching our video and I should have said in my introduction that next week’s video will be taking cuttings from Hot Lips - out next Thursday - but yes it is still ok but your cuttings will need a bit of heat at the bottom and kept warm at this time of year: if your neighbour cuts his back this weekend hang on to some pieces, put them in water and John will take you through it next week - in the meantime keep safe and happy 🌸

    Hi John, could you give me some advice on when I can 're pot my blueberry plant? And is it Ericausious compost it requires?

    • @JohnHorseyHorticulture
      @JohnHorseyHorticulture  Před 3 lety +1

      Hello Stephen - thank you for watching our video - the time to repot your blueberry plant is in the Spring when it begins to grow away and, you are right, it is ericaceous compost you need. Keep safe All the best 🌸

      @JohnHorseyHorticulture  Před 3 lety +1

      @@stephenembleton2004 Hi Stephen - Yes John Innes No 3 is what you need and it’s best to repot your olive in the Spring which is the best time for it to grow away - Herewith the link for our repotting an olive tree video which we posted in n February and any more questions do please ask czcams.com/video/NVN-VNK3M6c/video.html
