- This is one of the oldest circulating fiddle tunes dating back to the 18th century. While it has Scottish roots, it's mostly associated with the American Civil War. Some sources claim Soldier's Joy stands for a combination of whiskey, beer and morphine to ease the pain from the horrors of war. Pretty grim meaning for a song so joyful..
Tuning: Double C
Banjo: Ome Tupelo - Krátké a kreslené filmy
You sure know your way around a 5-string. Exceptionally tasty arrangement!...
SWEET. NIfty licks to steal... Very nice, indeed.
Borrow I hope!
Love it
Great job! Love this tune.
I'm doing my own version of this soon with some vocals. I'm no singer but hopefully you'll dig it!

Waar ben je al die tijd geweest?!
@@JelSnel ver van gelijkgestemde geesten in dezen, zo blijkt! Mooi dat ik je kanaal gevonden heb!
Great playing!! //Lars
Sounds great!
Thanks Chris!
Wonderful 👍
Thanks David!
Sweet
Mooi man
My that style is nice. I played tenor banjo for years but never really took a strong liking to it and always wished my dad had me do 5 string. This technique is beautiful, I love how you can do rhythm and melody at same time gives it a richer sound and play bluegrass and other types of music. Thinking of getting me a 5 string open back banjo.
Are you playing a closed back banjo? It sounds beautiful, I find an open back gives a softer sound.
Thanks! Go for it. This is an open back banjo, but 12 inch. Adds a lot of depth
Your playing reminds me of Lukas Pool, and he is one hell of a player, too.
Thanks Jim! Yeah he's one of my favourites
Great job and great sounding banjo. What make and model is it?? Thanks!
@jelsnel a beautiful version of a classic tune. Is there a way to correspond with you? I'd like to use this recording in a video, with your permission and credit to you of course.
Thank you! Sure, that sounds cool. You can reach me via my Instagram account. Here's the link: instagram.com/jel.snel.banjo?igsh=ejk3ODBrZGR0Mm9t
Nice tune. I've watched a lot of clawhammer tutorials on youtube but I still don't really get it, do you have any tutorial suggestion for beginners?
Your right hand is most important. Make sure you can hit all the individual strings separately while staying in the rhythm. :) Hope that helps, it can be a pain in the beginning..
Is that an OME Tupelo?
Very nice arrangement. Ever shift to a minor … it sounds wonderful.
Thanks! I'll have to try that
Neeld it!😉
Dig it...
Mighty fine son
Thanks ma coon hunting son
Whow. Very good. What is that for a Banjo. Who is the maker? :-)
Thank you! It's an Ome
Well played, Jelle. I would love to have the tab for your version. Do you have the tab?
Thank you very much! Unfortunately I don't have a tab for it.. I just used the basic melody and went from there
@@JelSnel Thanks Jelle you did a very nice job. I think you will get quite a few more views from me while I learn it.
@@Chance-ry1hq haha good luck!
@@Chance-ry1hq "Emulation is the best form.of flattery!" I'm so happy that I've never learned to read tablature or music at 73 years old. Tunes become priceless when you have to work hard for them. I recently figured out Doc Watson's "Ramblin' Hobo" from hearing it first 30 years ago after hearing the similarity with "Last Chance." I love the elation felt in these random discoveries! That's what it is all about.
It was the medicine soldiers waited for.
