I didn't regret Effexor until now. My doctor gave me a final 30 day supply of 150mg and discharged me. They had no interest in helping me taper off. I've spent the past few days figuring out what the hell to do. I've finally found another doctor that can take a new patient in < 30 days, but it's an hour away. I'm now going to have to see a doctor an hour away to begin the hell of tapering off this drug. I'll never be put in a situation like this again. This is insane.
DO NOT START ON EFFEXOR, it's a trap. I thought it was helping me, and maybe it did for a while, but there's no exit plan. My doctor did not care at all about the idea of forcing me to stop cold turkey.

I stopped effexor over a month ago, and ever since my blood pressure has been super low, I mean 80/60 low. I was taking prozac, so I didn't have brain zaps, thank god, but I have noticed a lot of other horrible things. low blood pressure, depressed, drastic mood changes, I mean LOVING my life, to straight suicide.. , nausea, flu symptoms, can't seem to digest food correctly..but I know it's for the best. Effexor f*cked up my body so hard..now I have to recover from 4 years of destruction

Good info to bring forth especially in dealing with any medication. Most Dr.'s don't tell you the side effects of prescriptions. It's always good to do your own research for peace of mind. Thanks for sharing!

Glad to see you back and doing well. I tried Effexor about a year ago and instantly put on 20 pounds, and it made me nearly comatose. I could do nothing but sleep for about a month, so I immediately stopped it. Lexapro caused insomnia quickly. Currently I'm on Seroquel, haven't gained any weight (but haven't lost the other yet either), I'm able to sleep fine and actually get moving (with a little struggle) in the morning. But it has helped calm the "self-destructive" thoughts I deal with.

I am weening off efexor: I started cutting my dosage down from 75mg/day to 37.5mg/day (doctors recommendation). I did this for 2 weeks...now I am taking 37.5mg every second day and this will last for 2 weeks too. I have also been taking omega 369 daily and vitamin b complex, exercising, drinking lots of water, keeping social and studying and I have lost 2kg already...the omega and vitamin b help with the withdrawals...trust me...and next Friday I shall be efexor free hopefully...feeling great

I'm coming off effexor right now. I don't think it caused me to gain weight...I am stopping it because I did not get any effect at all from it, actually. However coming off it, I am definitely getting effects. Shaky, insomnia, migraines, body aches, body muscle spasms.... just thought I'd mention it in case you ever decided to come off it. It is not a friendly one to come off of..

How does it make you gain weight? Is it the fact you are simply eating more or does it screw up your metabolism? What was your experience? My Mom has a relationship with Effexor so I'm watching what happens .

Still have some symptoms. Mainly just brain zaps and dizziness. It's gotten quite a bit better though. How long have you been on it?

Yeah the 3rd day was bad for me too, it was really bad for about 3 weeks, but what made it eaiser was being put on a small dose of prozac at the same time. You could see about doing that, if it starts to become to much.

Is Side Effexor really worth taking, even at low (I.e. 37.5 -75 mg) dosage?
