You know our education system is pretty sad when a simple question like: “is a bicyclist allowed to ride a bike on the road?”
Has to be asked.
Its texas…what education system? Repubs just want to keep people stupid, and in a state thats had some of the most horrible shootings, doesnt want to protect children, much less teach them.
Aggravating as hearing that is, the fact this happened in Texas, explains why so many are ignorant…of that.🤨
Our education system is 100% controlled by one party. The party that cyclists vote for.
Where I am, you have a bicycle that has a rear wheel with a diameter of 26” or larger it’s illegal to ride on on sidewalks
My question exactly. What is a bicycle doing in the lane of travel? Call me crazy, but I learned 60 years ago as a child not to ride my bike down the middle of the road.
Finally!! Showing the actual incident uncensored ! I've always hated it when the News says they're showing the 'Actual Video" but either blur or cut before the incident. If people didn't want to see the whole video they wouldn't click on it. Thank you.
The driver of the car should never again have the privilege of driving a car!
I had a truck hit me from behind @ 55mph, broke my neck, back, pelvis, left leg and messed up my left kidney. I survived somehow and made it back to the bike a few years later after a million dollars worth of work to my body. Drunks like this guy should get a bunch of years in prison.
Thank God they are okay🙏🏼

He did suffer severe injuries
@@juss-passin-thruYour cap lock's on.
Fascinating as he claims "only had two". The denial is strong with this one. Amazed as he was not more seriously injured, and glad he's recovering. Still number one killer these days. And countless injured and collateral damage and costs. Doubt this, look at an actual hospital bill.
Two that he remembers.....
No need to look at an actual hospital bill... Without really good insurance, one accident or illness is enough to put many people into bankruptcy proceedings.
THIS IS SICK TO WATCH
Bicycles are defines as vehicles (not motor vehicles) and are required to travel in the roadway. The biggest difference is that they are required in most areas to share the lane with motor vehicle traffic. Most areas do require motor vehicles give the cyclist at least 3 feet clearance wile passing. They are actually prohibited from the sidewalks (not enforced).
but, if a bike lane or path is provided, the cyclist must ride on it. I got a ticket when I was 17 for not riding on a bike path that was full of sand, sticks, and stones as it was not maintained. I thought the road would be safe, and it was. Went to court, the judge laughed, listened to my explanation, and then made me pay $20.00. Small village.
A valid point could have been made about lack of upkeep equal to the motor vehicle roadway.
@@asquare9316not true, cyclists can still use the roadway to avoid traffic, obstacles, hazards, people, to pass or for their own safety. You should have challenged that ticket.
Whether the person riding the bike was legally operating said bike on the road is irreverent
Depends on the state. Here there is zero tolerance for bicyclists in the street.
My kids talked me out of getting a bike because so many bicyclist get hit by cars around here. Three years ago a coworker got sent to jail for killing a bicyclist while he was texting and driving.
Around here he woulda a huge fine and no jail.

It's not always the car driver's fault. Especially in towns like mine that has given bicyclists WAAYYY too many traffic rights like being able to legally blow through stop signs, endangering them in the process.

"no sidewalks in the area", what does that information have anything to do with cyclists riding where they were supposed to ride? It is illegal in most states for cyclists to ride on a sidewalk. It's also very dangerous, for pedestrians and the riders who would be crossing blind driveways. Leave it to the news station to be less informed than the general public once again.
It’s amazing how ignorant most people are regarding traffic laws and cyclists…
Yeah, I average about 23 to 25 mph on most of my rides, they wouldn't want me on a sidewalk...

Dedicated bike paths are the safest. Denmark & Amsterdam are a bicyclist paradise due to all the dedicated bicycle paths. Sharing the road with vehicles is legal but extremely dangerous.
My preference was the river trails in Los Angeles- 50 miles with no cars. My friend, who was an idiot, once went into one of the under roadway tunnels after 2 horses and riders had gone in- exclaiming, "On your right!". As the horses and I had not been properly introduced, I waited outside until the tunnel was entirely clear.

How pathetic is it that CBS takes the easy out with "we checked, there were no sidewalks and this was the only paved road for them to ride on" instead of educating their viewer base that bicycles are legal users of the roads as they are defined as vehicles. Why is it always the victims fault that they got hit for riding their bike in the street even though they are legally allowed to be there?
Its pretty stupid to allow a bicycle which cannot keep up speed with a motor vehicle on the road with said motor vehicle. Many bicyclists are extremely arrogant in the way that they ride on the road
@@loyevangelists Fact is the roads are not only for motor vehicles no matter what your opinion is. And its not stupid when people respect each other's right to live in this world as equals. Me: Oh really? You don't say?
Bikes should be on road and not sidewalks even if available .
Leave it to idiots to question why cyclists are in the road. They have every right to be on almost any road and should be considered a slower moving vehicle. I wish the news anchor had explicitly explained that better instead of the vague "they didn't have a choice". They wouldn't and shouldn't be on the sidewalk even if there had been one.
You don’t ride on sidewalks either.

They were driving on the road because Bicycles are allowed to legally ride on the road.
I’ll b riding on that exact same road all next week as I wait for my flight, but I won’t have my happy as in the middle of the road
Bicyclists have just as much right to the road as cars. Sidewalks are for pedestrians, thus the name sidewalk, not sideride.
Was there a camera on the bike?
Yes cyclist in front of the two shown in video had camera on their seat post.
The bike in front had a rear facing camera.
Luckily it was there, and captured everything perfectly.
What puzzles me, is why didn't that rider stop when the accident happened? There must have been some sort of audible clues...screaming, grunting, the sound of a bike being crunched.
I'm confused by that.

Why are people even asking about riding on sidewalks? Bikers are not allowed to or supposed to ride on sidewalks... that is exclusively a pedestrian way. The bikers were occupying one of the two available lanes, giving the car a full lane to pass. That's exactly their responsibility by law. Even if you suggest that the male cyclist should have been riding closer to the curb, which is best practice, though not required by law, the driver still hit the biker closest to the curb!
Typical

Bicyclists in Texas by law have every right to ride in the road, so long as it it’s not a freeway system and they obey all traffic laws. In some places it is ILLEGAL for cyclists to be on sidewalks
It sucks but I am sick of 40+ year old guys with tights on riding their bikes in the middle of the street. Ride on the side walk. That's what it's there for. cmon!!
I love it!! Bicyclists claim the road but flaunt the rules.
Sure single file is generally the way to ride however nothing justifies that kind of reaction and or lack of response
Car companies encourage this. Oil companies encourage it. Cities encourage it when they waste money building roads for speed and don't invest in protected cycling infrastructure. They create the conditions where EVERY "drivers" feels entitled to deliberately commit v|0l3nce, then pretend these are "isolated cases".
Amazing the talking head said "incident", not "accident" as it's uaually called when road ragers do this deliberately. But STOP USING PASSIVE LANGUAGE. Driver runs over cyclist, not "cyclist run over". Passive language intentionally blames the victim, the same way "woman r_ped" blames women instead of saying "man rapes woman" as they should.

We were taught in first grade to ride single file. These days, bikers think they're in the Tour de France and they have to put on their Tour de France Halloween costumes just to take a bike ride. The driver should still be prosecuted, but bikers, "get out of the traffic lane, follow speed limits and obey stop lights and stop signs!" Yeah...like that's going to happen.
