As a 29 year old myself and someone who would give 10 minute talks at my job, I can confirm that memorizing talking points is not an easy thing to do at any age, and it doesn't necessarily mean someone is "losing their mind" it could mean they were sleepy, especially given Biden's fiery speech the following morning.

It happens. Fetterman also froze mid debate vs Oz and still defeated him in a landslide in Pennsylvania by almost 400,000 votes only 2 years ago. And considering Trumpty Dumpty is far more hated than a Mehmet Oz who was loved by everyone on TV just be ready to lose again is all I'm saying because it's less about the person himself and more about the man's character. lol Oz was perceived as a dirt wad while Fetterman was perceived as a good human being. Interesting, I didn't realize that. I think it's incredibly irresponsible for his to project so much "certainty" in his model. Models are only as good as the assumption that go into them. And when political dynamics shift as much as they have in recent years, there's not telling how things can go haywire. Fine to offer suggestions, heads-up, etc. But this claiming it would be a mistake to replace Biden doesn't take into account the highly unusual circumstances we're in now. I think a replacement would be the SAFE choice, because I don't see how any Biden voters would go clear over to Trump just because of whoever this new probably center-left person might be. I think they'd get ALL of Biden's votes and probably many more.

I’d like “debates” to have 3 different topics per night, not 50. Have the candidates answer the question, then fact check it, then ask the candidate to explain how the candidate came up with their answers. For example, if Trump says he won, have him prove it. We use the court system all the time to decide less important matters and people seem fine with that. Have Trump prove he won! Right now “debates” are reliant on a candidates say so. Enough salesmanship! Make them show their work. The problem with America is that we ask less of a candidate for President than any job ever known in existence!

Sounds great. So, for example, when Biden brings up a tired, 7-year old talking point about Trump's "plenty of good people on both sides" quote, the moderators can play the entire clip where Trump next said who he ISN'T referring to, and who he specifically said who should be condemned totally, and it puts the clip back in context and completely destroys a debunked smear tactic. Or maybe when Joe brought up Trump's "bloodbath" quote, they could show the actual Merriam-Webster definition of the word, where we can all see it is also used as an economic term, and it crushes another baseless claim, once and for all, so everyone will stop bringing it up and propagating a baseless lie. This isn't about whether Biden would be a good, even healthy President for the next four years. It's whether he zwill (not can... WILL) beat Trump this year.
This guy's model is what he is defending, here, not democracy. It is not wise to believe that something that has worked, even 100% of the time in the past, will work as understood 100% of the time in the future. For one thing, there has never been a fascist candidate running who is polling neck and neck with a democracy candidate.
The polarization and the underlying political assumptions are qualitatively different now than they've ever been. While his model MAY continue to hold, it is foolish to claim with absolute certainty that they will. His attitude in this interview was highly irresponsible as a scientist, in my view.
Take those "keys" into account, absolutely. But to continue to stick with a candidate who has been polling so close to someone who is actively advocating for fascism, and who just demonstrated a complete inability to absolutely clean his clock face-to-face is an incredibly tenuous position. The idea that Biden MAY still win is not near certain enough for me as someone who thinks there is no option too unconventional when it comes to saving the potential for democracy for the forseeable future.
It seems to me that a strong centrist Dem would get all of Biden's votes and MANY more. It would not be as risky as people seem to think. Sure, there would be a struggle in the selection process. But the Dems know they've got to be united in November, and that would certainly be top of mind during the selection process.
