After 4 years of being afraid to tackle this piece, I've conquered my fears. But for personal reasons, I won't finish this piece for now until I can improve my skills even further and play even better with regards to less mistakes, less shaky tempo, and building up dexterity to play some of the fast repeating notes, especially the part I simplified in the video just before the final chorus.
Like I said, I'm aware there are some notes I missed and a few things changed. This was the first and only take that day, and it's far from a perfect performance but I'm pretty satisfied at how it turned out so far, after all I'm only human ;)

Overall, I think it's better to practice over a longer period of time (provided you're not bored with the piece) and it'll help long term, unlike me where I rushed it and my arms were beginning to be sore, especially on the second day. I also forgot to mention that every time you practice, it's important to come back to a previous section once you've learnt a new section so you don't forget the previous section (it made learning this a lot faster than trying it all in one go);
ie. learning 1-10 where you learn like: 1, 1-2, 1-2-3, 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4-5, etc.
^ This is what allowed me to learn so many sections in one day. It may seem obvious but this type of learning style is easily ignored and forgotten but it's definitely beneficial in the long run, and it definitely worked for me.
It was really really helpful interesting and motivating for me thanks a lot and I would absolutely love u would do this more often!
Man i wish we could affort pianolessons. I have been teaching Myself for like a Year and 4 months if i am not wrong. I am making progress but I don't think I can really get at a higher level than I am now😔

I will say, I'm inspired to give it a go and see what I come up with too, and see how similar or different our styles are.

I really love Animenz's arrangements for their musical complexity, and how he's able to write beautiful variations in almost every song...
It's really interesting seeing you play this close-up (on an upright piano too!), really shows how difficult this piece is. I'm sure 90% of the comments here will ask you to make a proper video for it lol

It was a pipe dream for me too, until just last week where I rewatched / re-read some of my notes from Animenz's masterclass from 2017 and 2018 where he talked about Unravel. This piece takes a huge toll on you (after recording, I just sat down and did nothing for a whole hour because my arms were dead after 4 hours of prior practice today xD)

@@FonziMGM yeah and you can still get even better at it, I think you probably have a different enough interpretation to play it in an original way.

I kinda stopped playing after that because it through me off so much and I got so obsessed trying to get it down; i ended up quitting for a few months. Although I’ve been playing since I was 6 so I wouldn’t leave that easily! I got back into piano a little bit after a few month break, getting ready to tackle the piece again as of late. I’ve been lately feeling somewhat confident about it surprisingly enough.
It’s still just a painfully close yet distant dream for me too though 😅
@@FonziMGM omg that's me as well, but for his arrangement of Swordland - I'm playing it as an optional piece for my DipABRSM coming up in like a year, and literally I can't even begin practicing it before I've warmed for like 30 minutes, and then once I finish practicing I just sit on the sofa and feel like dying for a while

3:12 this part takes so much stamina to pull off in its originality because of how tired the hands should be at this point in. I personally understand the need to simplify this part.

Animenz also usually simplifies that part, and sometimes the unravelling part, for live concerts.
@@ChronicalV ye i cant find a clip of him in a concert on youtube where he plays this part in its originality. it just strains the forearm too much and might cause the next piece he plays to lose quality.

Obviously there’s room for improvement (always the case as I’m sure you know) but great work for only 3 days of practice. You should officially record it man.
Jesus the first part is literal pain, it's really difficult to get play it precisely. My friend could play Unravel on piano nearly perfectly, after a few weeks of no practice the playing got immediately rusty.

If you want to, I definitely think you should finish it but at the end of the day that decision is yours to make. I'm just happy you're making videos, no matter what it is!

@@105Rpg takes a lot of discipline, not everyone is willing to sit down and practise for 7 hours a day and dedicate that kind of time to something most would brush off as "just a hobby"

@Damián Núñez Pacheco Animenz is more skilled, but, like any other pianist, Fonzi has his own distinct style and releases awesome versions of songs no one seemed to have done at the time e.g. Fatima.

Among all the covers attempted animenz arrangement of this song in my opinion as a pianist I think yours is the most cleaniest of all your tempo was just right, wow what an amazing cover, More power to your channel

If you love this arrangement check out James Chou’s cover of it he did a couple years ago. I’d say it’s the best cover, he even did it live!
Steins; Ga kill James Chou is insane haha, he played some Liszt Transcendental Etude stuff which was extremely hard for even Animenz. Crazy how much talent there is on CZcams
Carlos Mendez to be fair, Listz’s Transcendental Etudes are difficult for anybody, even for people playing piano for decades.

bro I could play all of those parts individually but playing them at the same time is absoloutely insane, even 2 years later after I have practiced for years and can play piano solos from some of the best keyboardists at more than 2x speed, I can still barely play all the melody to that. You are insane.
Your attempt to learn it and ability to actually play it just goes to show how far you've really come. This piece is no easy farce and is definitely overwhelming at the very sight of it, but you just handled it amazingly. Congratulations.

My style is mostly improvisation, meaning using what I already know. By learning this, I'm building my skill set / stamina and therefore can make even better arrangements / improvisations!

One thing that I have learned over my course of playing the piano is that if you are too afraid to learn a piece because of how “hard” it might be, you will never get better at it. This is one of those crazy milestone pieces (at least for me it is) that I hope to achieve soon. For now, I am learning Clair de lune, and slowly working my way up to being able to learn stuff like this. Anyways, congratulations on learning so much of this song, it makes me happy to be able to see how much progress people are able to make and the support that we can give them. Keep being awesome man, love you. ❤️

I don't have a good piano, my piano is almost 200 years old, it was built in the 1860's so one day I hope to get a good piano in hopes to better myself as a pianist.
