    I have been told that one needs to have the "correct amount of humidity" in the safe. That is, if it is too dry, it can affect stocks and of course we know what too much moisture can do. So what product can one use to maintain the right balance?

  • @ramohino
    @ramohino Před 4 lety +5

    Best gun safe dehumidifier is a lightbulb. It gets just as hot as the hot rod I have in there as well and it lights the safe.

    I have the Evas or a brand like it. The only problem is the manual intervention of taking it out to re-charge? What do you recommend that plugs in and is zero maintenance? Thanks. Just realizing many of the nicer gun safes have a power strip inside so one could easily be plugged in.

    • @Nashvillesafehouse
      @Nashvillesafehouse  Před 2 měsíci +1

      A "no maintenance" option would be a Goldenrod. The only issue is it just heats up the air in your safe and doesn't "remove" the moisture. Where as the eva dry absorbs the moisture and it is removed and dried out when you plug it in every few months. We've sold 1000's of eva drys and never had an issue.

    I like using a few Brevida 62 gram or Boost humidifier packs they work great and I just put a cheap humidifier meter inside to see what my humidity is at! I still think humidity should be at 60% anyone think that’s good enough?????

    • @Starbuckin
      @Starbuckin Před rokem

      60 % is NUTS! Mold will grow anything above 50 %! I keep mine below 30% with silica gel packs and sealing the door up with gorilla tape and I've never had a problem. Only gun in there with wooden stock is a Winchester 94 .3030 and never had any issues.

    The due point for water vapor lowers with the reduction of humidity. If you are just warming the air with a heating rod, you can still have 99% humidity in the safe. Heating rods DONT lower humidity!!

    • @dkenmiller9829
      @dkenmiller9829 Před 6 lety +2

      The idea is to keep the air temperature above the dew point so moisture will not condense on the metal surfaces. Both methods are effective.
