This is a very informative presentation of what the function labels mean. The causes of spinal cord injuries seem to follow no pattern. One person may fall or lift something and damage their spine, while another may not.

I believe and always have that that shoulder injury led to that cyst on my C 3-4 But God is good I am still walking and doing everything I need to do.

I have an injury at T4 but am currently experiencing some of the problems that some quads might have due a compression of the ulnar nerve.

+eoindarkside Hello, It is very surprising to me that you are able to walk with a T5 SCI. Usually, patients with a T5 injury will have some basic upper chest stability but will have no trunk movement, let alone hip flexion. This is very surprising and does sound quite odd. Even with a T10 SCI, patients will still not have full control of the trunk or hips. It is not until the SCI is below the thoracic region, (i.e. in the lumbar or sacral region) in which patients will be able to use their legs.

eoindarkside I also have a T5 injury, but have no movement or feeling below my mid chest (except for strong involuntary muscle spasms). I have had some feeling and movement return for about 2 days(2 years after the injury occurred), after continuously trying to move my legs and toes for about 7 hours (which is very mentally exhausting), but I lost it after about a day.
It sounds like you don't have a Complete injury, which allows for some signals to travel past the point of injury. You are pretty lucky.

Rats spines aren't as complex as human spines and there has been some limited successes with some avenues of research. There are also more legal and ethical concerns apparently about experimenting on people than there are on rats.

There isn't a 'cure' to spinal cord injury. Just luck of the draw... I've fallen while climbing about 2 metres and landed on my neck. Ambulance took me to hospital, after 8 days of numbness they got my out of bed and I've had no damage, a guy who I worked with tripped off a 3 inch curb and is now in a wheel chair, it's too dangerous to intervene into the spinal cord because more damage can be done by trying to fix the damage done by the original injury.
