  • This is a video of the Hahn Air Base Open House held on 17 May 1991. The video opens with a view of the 50th TFW Commanders F-16 Fighting Falcon with the 1941-1991 50th Anniversary medallion painted on the tail. The video continues with the couch potato races which was an annual tradition at Hahn. On static display is an F-15 Eagle with BT from the 36th TFW at Bitburg Air Base, an F-4G Wild Weasel with SP from the 52nd TFW at Spangdahlem Air Base. Hahn, Bitburg and Spangdahlem made up the Eiffel Region USAFE bases in Germany. The video ends with an A-10 Thunderbolt II with WR from the 81st TFW at RAF Bentwaters, UK. Sadly, all of these bases closed in 1993 with the end of the Cold War except Spangdahlem AB.

Still can't believe it's all gone.....Hahn, Bitburg, Zweibrucken, Sembach, Rhein-Main; of all the bases, Spandahlem still remains, and Ramstein is all airlift now, having lost the Fighter Wing. Ah, the good ole days. Hahn 1982-1984 50CRS/496AMU; Ramstein 1985-1991 512TFS.

I was with the 512th when it first started at the Stein (1976). Good old days!
Hahn - 1983-1985 (Blue Zoo), 1990-1991(Pukin' Puppies). Good times there, too.

Thanks tor the video, I was stationed at Hahn from 1986 - 1989. I remember meeting Gen. Chuck Yeager there, when he was there for the Tab Vee Dedicated to him. I have to say he was a very short fellow, nothing like in the movie, "The Right Stuff". But, I have to say, I respected him. Not because he was a General, but because he was a human being! That is what makes a Great Man. Compassion!

This Really brings back some memories. I was stationed in the Civil Engineering Squadron 1990 - 1993. I just went back this year, 2014 and drove on the base. It was a complete let down. The Germans have let the old girl run down and get vandalized. I even went into my old base housing unit. Everything was torn out and water damaged.

Wow! Thank you so much for posting this video. I was at EDAH from 11/84 to 9/91. I Was at this airshow. In fact, the team at 3:17 was the team I put together. We took either 2nd or 3rd, I don't remember which. GOt some cheap crap from MWR as prizes, but it was a boatload of fun!
And by the way, Col George Norwood was the biggest jerk of a CC I ever served under.

Remember the Sgt(yes Sgt E-4) prep course that was right next to the Chow Hall same building. When you walked from the post office, across the street, down the steps to the chow hall. The prep course was on the right.??

Was at Hahn ab from 85-87 with the 313th AMU. I do now miss it and the TDY to Zaragoza. Some of the Hahn F-16's are used as chase planes for the f-22 at Air Force Plant 6 ) 1313, 1256
