This is my favorite of Partitas and Sonatas! Indeed, there is a rawness to the recording. Ms. Hahn gives no quarter in her performance. It's clear she loves this piece, too. Such a great performance. She's giving it all here.
I wonder if she'd teach me to play this. I own a $65 electric violin though I've never had lessons (I occasionally mess about with it, but the bow is not a pick - something I've had troubles with), but I do play the mandolin. I could learn it on my mandolin, and then put my mandolin under my chin I suppose. Good idea? Heeheehee!

My mother was a talented violinist and bought a 1904 Victorian due to her antique collection but also because of music.
This is what Bach is supposed to sound like. Not the sterilized canned renditions done in million dollar studios with expensive equipment.
Bach Dvorak, Mendelssohn, Haydn, Handel, Brahms and their music sounds so much better in this kind of set up. This is, after all, what they were writing for. They weren’t writing for sound proofed, microphoned, rooms to hide the authenticity of chamber music
    Thank-you.

I totally clapped at the end. :)
The rawness of this footage, the perfect imperfections, the steadiness; I just love it! And even if it's not a _perfect_ recording, it's perfect to me, and it just proves to show that even soloists can mess up at times. All the greats were beginners once.
I can't wait to someday play half as great as her. Though that may never happen, it is something to at least look forward to. I got to see her perform at Symphony Hall with the BSO about a month ago (the first classical concert I've ever attended!!), playing Mozart's 5th violin concerto in A major, with her own written cadenzas. For an encore, she played Gigue, and I must say that it may or may not have become my new favorite Bach performance.
Thank you, Mrs. Hahn, for such a lovely performance, please know that you have inspired many people. You really truly have inspired me as a young beginner-intermediate violinist in many ways. Thank you.

What a treat! I feel like I haven't experienced a new Hilary Hahn production in quite some time and a Bach rendition! I'm not worthy!

Ces sonates et partitas de JS Bach , quel chef d'oeuvre , le violon y trouve un répertoire d'une fluidité euphorisante.Bravo à l'interprète , qui nous offre tte son énergie en cette période si particulière.

Thanks for such a splendid performance. This is especially helpful for/valuable to a serious violin student. By reducing the playback speed to 75% or even 50%, it’s possible to discern every bowing and every fingering in this piece, from start to finish. What a marvelous lesson. Thank you for the great ideas and inspiration!!
