Video Corrections:
Not receivers but: integrated amplifiers.****
Good video. BTW, they are not receivers. They are integrated amplifiers.
You are correct. Thanks for the correction. These are integrated amplifiers.
My shop rig is a Yamaha AS501 with Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 speakers. Very smooth.
Nice good to hear!
Yes, it helped a lot! Thank you very much! I'll go with the 301 as I always listen at low levels. Thank you again.
Glad it helped! Thanks!
I settled for the R-S300 (also ToP-Art chassis) because the AS series amps 501 & 301 were out of stock. Very happy with the R-S300 sound output, also built like a tank.
Thanks for sharing. Great Choice! Yamahas, can't go wrong!
That's like a successor to the RX 397
Not receivers-Integrated amps. A-S801 is a beast!
Absolutely are!
Just purchased a 701 brand new for $650
I bought a 500 to power a "spares" system, returned it for a 700. Best audio bargain ever.I use a CD transport and the dac does a good job with it. Powering a pair of 704's and never runs outta gas.
WoW some 704's Nice! Yamaha, Can't go wrong!
@MediaPipeDream I love those 704's, but I had to have a pair of 702s2 's. They're in my main system. And yes, they are as good as people say. With Bowers 608 subs
I have the AS-301 and it's surprisingly good. Sounds like a lot more than 30 watts/channel.
Agree!
I thought the as-301 60 watt per channel ?
I plugged cambridge 753 bluray with 6 wolfson dacs into my as301. I preferred the sound quality from the as301s dac.
Good to know! It is definitely top tier
Nice ... I have an A-S301 and an A-S500 (no Dac) ... Burr Brown makes excellent dacs ... they have been around a long time !!!
Yes they do! Excellent Integrated Amps!
Whats deference from 301 to 501
@@diontoi5497 …. Basically the power … 301 (60w @ 8ohms) … the 501 (85w @ 8ohms) … the sound signature is pretty much the same
“Volume is adjusted via an ALPS motorized RK16811MGA09 "1-gang" potentiometer. No, I don't think I'm wrong, it looks indeed like a "1-gang" pot, yes...a mono potentiometer. :) Seems that the volume control, like many other functions, are done by the custom proprietary microprocessor with a flash memory inside, named YG398A9 and with a notice on the schematic: "No replacement part available". That means there should be no added volume pot. Johnson noise inside the audio path and no channel imbalance will occur, at least not due to the potentiometer.”
trl’s post on audiosciencereview on the a-s701
Wow ! Awesome info, thanks for the post!
🍺👍.... Yamaha... !
🤙Oh ya!
I just purchased a 701 (no dac) brand new for $650. Definitely would have gone with the 501 but at $650 i couldn't pass up the 701
Pairing it with my wharfedale diamond 12.2 bookshelf speakers, a klispch s120 sub and Technics SL1200MK2 turntable
Very Nice!
Yes Yamaha ❤
Yes sir!
Can the S801 DAC be used as a substitute/replacement for a 2ch audio-interface (eg: Focusrite 2i2, Universal Audio Volt 2, etc.)… for recording into a computer (and not just for computer playback).
I know it’s supposed to be used for playback/convert digital stuff into the analog/amp, like computer-usb-out into amp-usb-in.
But, can the DAC’s USB also record external sources into computer? (like recording a dj mix from dj mixer outs, or recording a music-production from Mackie desktop mixer outs, etc.)
No, only input to amp. It will not out put usb to computer (ex: mic to amp to computer, can't do that)
Those of you who have Yamaha amps... what bookshelf speakers would be a good pairing with the Yamaha a-s301, for a room up to 16 square feet?
Not quite sure, All rooms have different properties. But I would look at book shelf speakers with a 1" tweeter and 5.25" to 6.5" woofer. Some examples are: Neumi BS5, polk es15 ro es20, kef q150s or kef q350s. Hope that helps.
I have the as501 with jbl stage 130's backed by a plok 10 inch sub.
Polk
Hi, are the mid same on both amps? or 301 is more plain sounding? thanks.
To my ear, the mids on both sound the same. The only difference I found was how loud they can play.
Your speakers are going to affect that more than anything.
@@MediaPipeDreamcomparados con el yamaha R-N303 quote diferencia el encuentras en el sonido y potencia ??
I am currently debating whether I should buy the AS701 instead (first amplifier) as it's on offer at the moment. The price difference is around $200 from a AS301 and $100 from a AS501. Does anyone know if it comes with any additional features that are worth the price other than the power rating? Cheers
no additional features on the as701 vs the 301/501 (just more power). for that small of a price difference I probably would go for the as701, with the understanding that it is unnecessary. You will most probably not hear any difference in Sound quality between the 3 amps and you will most probably not exhaust the power of the 301 let alone 501. If $100 or $200 spent elsewhere will get you better sound quality (speakers, dac, source, etc...) I would do that. If you are optimized there, go for the As-701!
@@MediaPipeDream Thank you very much for your advice! :)
Of course there's other differences. The power rating is the only common known advantage, but if you take a good look around each of them and if you open each of them up, you'll see everything else and the price hikes will start making more sense. The build quality of the AS801 is absolutely the best. To get better build quality than the AS801, you'll need to spend thousands of dollars more and buy the Yamaha flagships. The AS301-AS701 all share the same DAC, the AS801 has a better DAC. None of these models share the same transformers so you can bet the AS301/AS501 are more like amatuer hour while the AS701 and AS801 are really high current ready and do get a little bit closer to the power management quality of the ultra expensive flagship models.
Hello, Should i get an AS 501 with an external Bluetooth Adapter or go with all package connectivity option like Marantz NR1200? If former, do i also need a DAC ?
It really depends on how you are going to use the AMP. The AS 501 is really stripped down to focus on sound quality. Not to say that the Marantz will be bad, but the AS 501 will probably give you that extra edge in sound quality. If you are going to treat it like an appliance and you just need it to play back with reasonable audio quality, you can't really go wrong with just about any Class A/B amp. If you want an "audiophile" set up were extra care was taken to give you the last few percent of audio quality at an expense of feature sets (bluetooth, tuner, usb dac, etc...) go with the yamaha.
I was pretty surprised at the small (but noticeable) difference in sound quality of the Sony STR-DH190 and the yamaha as 301. I made a video on it: czcams.com/video/XR7B-_0-Epw/video.html
Maybe I am late, but i saw 1 month old comments, so im gonna try to ask :)
I have a pair of Jamo 100W rms/150W max standing speakers. I know they are not the best, but these where my first speakers as a kid 20 years ago :) I am using a sharp amp that has 2x40W power (and is at least as old as my speakers).
My problem is the connectivity, but also, when i turn on 50% power and try some rock music it feels like the speaker is vibrating/distorting.
I was wondering if i buy an AS-301 could it drive the speaker better? Or do I need the AS-501? Or maybe my loudspeakers are old, and they never will sound good? Electronic music with big bass sounds okay, but guitar and drum kills it.
My primary use case wound be to hook it up to the TV, and see movies. Sometimes listen to music. It is not a necessity, but i thought if I have a pair of big speakers why not use them?
I think you have to figure out if you drivers are bottoming out due to high volume or if the amp is running out of juice. Possible that the drivers could be blown as well. the as-301 will drive your speakers no problem and that will not be the source of distortion.
@@MediaPipeDream Thank you for the reply, I bought a Denon PMA-900HNE in the end, it made the speakers sound better, with electronic music it was powerful. I felt it was lacking in dynamic sound, i also changed my speakers to Polk xt60-s. I know it is not high end, but now my setup sounds decent compared to what i had. The Denon also has heos, and bluetooth, though the latter is dissapointing, it is just sbc.
The reason why I choose this is:
1. This was available in a showroom where i could listen to
2. It has multiple options for playing music, it is more future proof i would say, and more convenient, but it was also pricier, almost double the price (in my country)
In terms of sound quality between the 301 and 501 , is it just the same, can you confirm ? The difference is simply more power with the 501 ?
Same, and yes, just more power, at least to my ears
Hey, I have a question. I am about to buy B&W 603 s2 speakers from 2020, but I don't have an amp yet. my room is 60 m^2 5x12m. which one should I go with between the as301 501 701 and 801?
501 701 or 801, 301 will still do just fine.
I just got my first ever turntable and am looking at the yamaha as-301 for phono can I pug in powered speakers to the AS-301 or do I need to purchase passive speakers
Solo passivi. Solo il subwoofer qualora lo usassi sarebbe attivo. Ma la casse esclusivamente passive. Possibilmente buone.
The Yamaha As-301 is an integrated amplifier and does not have line level pre-outs, therefore you will need to use passive speakers with the As-301.
If you already have powered speakers and wish to use them with a turn table you have 2 options:
1. Turntable with a built in phono preamp
2. Truntable without a phono pre amp + an external phono pre amp
Both these options assume you have volume control on your powered speakers, if not you will need volume attenuation (volume knob) before inputs to the powered speakers.
If you want to use passive speakers with the yamaha as 301 then you can use the phono input on the yamaha (if the turntable table does not have a built in phono preamp), the yamaha has a built in phono preamp only on the phono input. if the turntable has a built in preamp you can use any other input on the yamaha as 301 (line 1 line 2 or line 3) - those do not have any pre-amplification and accept line level inputs.
Can you please tell me if it's possible to connect a external eq to the amp?
An Eq with pre outs/line level rca outs, yes.
My headphones don’t work (no sound) at all from the right side. I’ve tried old and brand new headphones and it’s the same problem. My speakers both work fine though….any suggestions gents ? 🙏🏼🎧
Headphone stage shot.
@@MediaPipeDream thanks, meaning the headphone amp socket is damaged ??
