I got a sako 90 hunter in 308 for samba and red deer in Australia
Was just there a few weeks ago and bought a Bergara wilderness Hunter in 308….. Excellent! Can't believe you didn't mention tikka t3x. Almost got that instead, but the bergara seems to fit me better. Both excellent.

Savage and Ruger are my to go cheap rifles for hunting, both are very accurate and shoot just fine ..
Ruger makes some high end rifles, when it comes to the Hawkeyes or the Old Mark II’s, but I agree, the Ruger American or American Ranch are some of the best $500 round about Guns you can get. I’ve got a T/C Venture, but I’ve shot an American Ranch 5.56 and it was sweet! Pretty accurate, I got a 1” grouping out of it.
Love my two Savage rifles, a 1952 Savage 99 in 300 Savage and a new Savalr 110 Ultralight in 30-06.
Bought a Benelli Lupo BEST in 308. Put a Carl Weiss scope on it. Called it a day after my first 10 shots. Hands down worht it. .5 MOA at 200. .5 MOA at 300. And finall sub MOA at 500 yards. All with factory 168 grain. But it cost $3400 for the set up. My last gun for life
I can pick out a rifle easily, the cartridge is the hard part. I need a new rifle but I don't know if I should get 7mm-08, 270, or 308. Tough to choice......

Muzzle brake reduces recoil by 80% . Yeah Ruger wishes they were that badass at making brakes. But he got most of the stuff right, so I say good job
Also rattles your fillings when you shot , I had one installed on my TC Encore in 300 win mag , shot it 3 times had them cut it off
@recentlyretired I put one on my custom 300 win mag and I love that thing. I didn't even motive the noise when I shot my elk last year. They are good for light weight riggs

It's exactly what the firearm manufacturers want. They want to sell new rifles.
In the Pacific NW the stores selling guns & ammo are loaded up with the old deer gun ammo for sale.
What I crazy is even old cartridges not common for hunting in the Pacific NW are all over the shelfs like 35 Rem is all over now and 35 Wheelen the same or 25-35-win ammo again all over for sale and 308 is endless what brands are up for sale but try to find any large magnum ammo isn't happening

Outside of the salesman continuing to use the term caliber when he knows that he means and should say cartridge for the likes of .243 Win, .308 Win, 6.5 Creedmoor and so forth those are some good value mid to higher mid range rifle options.
