  • Here is a ,my thoughts on why the Makita GD0800 die grinder
by far the best die grinder on the market. you pay for it but it will out last the other die grinders and the power makes it worth the extra cost
works amazing with all saburrtooth burrs and bits and really is great for ice carving

The paddle-switch model is the GD0801C……the new one you demonstrated with (out of the box) was model GD0800C. GREAT VIDEO like all of them! Yew!

Thanks for posting. I am so happy that Makita has changed to a sensible collet system and will get my tool suppliers to let me know when they are available here in the UK on 18v grinders. They are so much better than the 'old' system, and you will learn to appreciate them with time ;) I moved to 18v Makita system a couple of years ago due to the considerably lower vibrations from battery tools, and always wear anti-vibe gloves, not thin ones! (Something else you will learn with time). Happy carving and have a good week.

I just placed an order for this tool after watching your review. Just what I needed to make an informed decision. Thanks for this video.

Great comprehensive review Ryan. Points to note for UK buyers, the machine is supplied with a 6mm collet. It will NOT accept the 1/8” burrs from Kutzall etc. You can change the collet to 3mm, 6.35mm (1/4) and even 8mm, but you’re looking at £20-30 per collet.
Also, the ‘engine’ is an electric motor 😅.

Ryan, excited to take my carving to the next level with this tool! But…when I put the sand-o-flex on the die grinder, my grinder smokes. What am I doing wrong?

The new collet setup should prevent the situation where the collet binds on the tool shaft.

Hay Ryan another great video, I to have just got the GD0800C its a great machine, I also got a Kutzall extreme flame burr for it but was very disappointed to find it didn't fit the collette, it only went in about 10mm and was very unstable, any tips on how to get it to fit better ? And do Makita do a 1/8 collette so you can use smaller burrs, have you personally, or know anyone who has tried an 1/8 burr in a GD0800C, if so how successful was it, any links would be greatly appreciated thank you. 😊😉👍

Good video thanks, i to like the Old collet system why do they have to change something that worked great. the spanners should come with pre drilled holes in the ends so we can tie them together. Also agree they should paint the spanners bright red .

Die grinders are primarily used in metalwork shops and factories. They are basically a huge, powerful Dremel or rotary tool. Uses are for cleaning out holes / gaps in rough castings or drilled areas, removing burrs etc. Once you buy one you start looking for uses for it lol. 😊
